I need some beta users for IOS Twitter notifications. If you don't know what Twitter is go to www.twitter.com and check it out. I'd like to send messages about lunch break times, tee off, etc. I'll also Twitter hot rounds, hot ratings, divisional leaders etc. You will get a few "tweets" on tournament days and not very many at all the rest of the time. I might send out reminders to register for the next event. On non-tournament days I can't imagine that you would get more than 1 message per week unless something exciting is going on and then maybe you'd get two.

You can find me on Twitter once you have signed up by searching for Jon Brakel or thumberjon@brasscash.com

Twitter messages will cost you like any other text message (assuming that you are receiving it on your phone which is the whole point of the IOS Twitter).

Let me know what kind of other info you would want to get tweets about.

There are free apps available for the iphone and blackberry that can help alleviate the SMS messaging charges.

sounds like a good way to pass on round info and stuff, but aren't cel phones suppose to be shut off during tournament play? it would suck to be putting one of your last putts of the round and someone gets a twit about lunch times and you shank your shot and miss.

Set your phasers to stun Ensign.  The device can be on but put on a silent setting.  This way somebody receiving a tweet will not act like a twit.

I think that cell phones should always be on silent or off while on the course. However, I don't think that I will be sending tweets out while people are playing. But to be on the safe side keep them off/silent. Don't players already keep them on silent or off while playing?

Updates about lunch: I was thinking of the scenario where your card comes in at the beginning and we say that the second round won't start before 1pm since you came in at noon. You go out to subway just after a bus full of people go in. The line is long and at 12:40pm you start to worry that you won't be able to get your sandwich and make it back on time. Then you get a tweet from me saying that the last card is in and the second round will start at 1:25pm. Now you relax and enjoy your sandwich.

I was also thinking of following everyone who is following me on Twitter so that you can twit tournament central with questions. This is all BETA so don't rely on it for important communication.

Lightning delays would be an example of a situation where I would twitter during play.

I haven't found a free twitter app for the blackberry. If anyone knows of one I'd love to be clued in. Thanks!

Also I am now following everyone who is participating in the IOS Twitter open beta so you can contact tournament central just by sending a tweet from your phone.

I use TwitterBerry. It asks for a donation. But you do not have to donate.

I thought the Twitters and Tweets went pretty well. We have 12 followers but I know of at least one that was having technical difficulties. Did any of you find it helpful or interesting?
