Looks like the PDGA is going to do a better job of updating ratings/points, from the PDGA website:
All events for 2009 have now been rated that will get ratings. Please let us know if there are any corrections. The corrections will be posted by mid-February to officially close out the ratings for 2009. Next update will be in late March which will be the first 2010 update. It will include only 2010 events played and reported by mid-March. This year there will be more ratings updates than ever with 8 official updates on March 23rd, May 4th, June 22nd, July 20th, August 31st, October 19th, and December 14th with the 2010 yearend update on January 25th, 2011

Does this make sense?

Naspinski started 2010 with a rating of 960.  He takes 3rd at the Memorial and gets a rating of 965?  5 points?

How is your rating calculated?
All rated rounds you have played and have been reported to the PDGA within 12 months of your most recently rated round will be included in the calculation. However, if any one of those ratings is either more than 100 points below your average rating or more than 2.5 standard deviations below your rating – whichever number is smaller – that round will not be included. That works out to about 1 in 50 rounds getting dropped. Rounds where you DNF (Do Not Finish) are never counted in your rating. The most recent 25% of your rounds get double weighted which slightly boosts your rating if you have been steadily improving. If a player has fewer than 8 rounds in the past 12 months, since their most recent round, then we'll go back up to another 12 months until we find up to 8 rounds but never go back any farther than a total of 24 months.

New ratings tomorrow, Tuesday.  The day before the ratings update always feels like Christmas Eve to me, even when I know I'm getting a lump of coal in my sock.  I think Kiralyn is getting a shiny new bicycle or maybe an electric train.   ;D

Kelsey made the big Brakel family move up this time.  That surprised me.  I thought it would be Kira. It is funny too, because Kelsey keeps saying she doesn't mind if her rating goes down while she's in college and cannot play or practice much.  And it keeps going up.

Kira would have moved up to #5 amateur woman in the world but a new member jumped on the list above her and immediately went pro.  The list shows Kira at #6 but #2 is now a pro.

Bruce - congrats on having some fine players in your family!  I have a nine year old boy who just started playing with me about a month ago.  He certainly enjoys it a lot (one or two courses in a day never seems to be enough for him), but I'm of course not sure if he will someday be interested in playing tournaments.  My question to you is, how early did your kids start playing tournaments?  Rather, how long had they been playing when they first started playing tourneys?  I'm planning to just take him to watch a few bigger tourneys (maybe Pro Worlds), and see if the interest sparks from there.

Kelsey was nine when she started asking about playing tournaments.  I told her she had to get three other friends to start playing so she could have a division, because back then most TDs required four players to have a division.  We spent that year [and the next 8]  introducing disc golf to every girl she knew.  She played her first tournament when she was 10 1/2 and her club instantly set the new PDGA record for largest Jr Girls <12 division ever.   ;D

Kelsey started making my missed practice putts when she was about 2.  She started going with me to courses as soon as she was out of diapers.  She was slow for that, but what, 3ish?  We would play that her tee was where ever my drive landed and then we would play straight up with that handicap.

I also have a young boy, two actually, that come out and play disc golf with me. My oldest, David, is now eight and has played in PDGA tournamsnts since he was 6. I generally have him play the shorter courses as 2 rounds is pretty hard to do, much less a longer course. I always make sure that I can walk with him in order to help him with the rules and to keep him focused. The long rounds tend to get a bit stale to a young one after a while.
I have them out on the course about 3 times a week, my 3 year old actually knows the way to the course and asks if we are going disc golfing every time I make a certain turn on a road. Both of them have been out playing with me since they could pretty much walk. They come to almost every league function and everyone knows them both. I love being involved in a sport that my entire family can enjoy toegther and that they like as well.

They were showing Becky as not current when I checked so I did not know what her rating had done.

Am Worlds looks like it will be a shootout between Wiggins and this Cody Kirkland guy.  Wiggins now rated 1002.  Kirkland 1016!  Kirkland finished 16th in Open at the Beaver State Fling NT event and turned down the $500 cash. (He beat Schultz, Rico, Sexton, Bennett, and several other 1000 rated pros at that event).  Wiggins won the Charlotte Amateur A tier event last weekend by 13 strokes, shooting 3 rounds over 1030!  He also cruised to the Am Nats title by 10 shots, averaging 1020 golf for those 3 rounds.  Could be interesting to see who wins.  Both players appear to be hanging around as ams to try and win a World title, but only 1 can get it.  A little east cost/west coast battle.

The only man who can possibly challenge them is Kenny Weaver Glassman, who elevates his game for Worlds like no other.  No pressure Kenny, but your our only hope.
