sounds like a challenge between the two clubs huh!

Sr.

I think you deserve a raise Brett! Very thankless job for how important it is. Just imagine where this game would be today if there weren't several good people like Brett to volunteer their time and effort in such a huge capacity. Thanks Brett!
I say throw the politics away, bury it, and start throwing some plastic with smiles!

2010 GRABM vs. Discontinuum Club Challenge? What better way to get to know each other and foster some good will than by a little friendly competition? Crystal Lake? Not a great course but geographically it is located well.

this is the quote that got it started:

"just an FYI. I put the decision in Dana's hands to allow the doubles to be sanctioned or not. He ok'd the doubles so I approved it. If he said no I would not have approved the date."

some took it as playing favorites.

Jason i have nothing to do with what Bear is doing so dont single me out. you know all i was mad about is how things were being blown out of proportion when all we were doing is trying to cut costs. what others read and say has nothing to do with me. im in the middle cause i advertised the tournament, then things were said and as far as i was concerned it was over. then this post came along and the gay slander and boycott thing came along, i said my piece done in the past.

i want to post this now to clear those issues and im done with this cause negativity solves nothing. we need to work together to make this sport grow.

Brett, I don't know how to blue box the previous message thingy, but to answer your question because of other obligations I just couldn't do both days last weekend. I would rather have thrown Joliet Championships. I live in Chicago and love the courses in J-town, I think weather played more of a factor than having a double booking for that weekend (reguarding low am turn out). Just curious how come so late in the season?

then this post came along and the gay slander

I apologize if anyone was offended by the word gay. I have no problem with gay people. I absolutely love lesbians  ;D

Gay used to mean happy then it turned to homosexual. The word is changing again and used in a very different way in my environment. For example. Student "What are we doing today Coach C?" Coach C. "We are playing badminton." Student. "That is gay!".

So for me. This thread is gay! It's stupid. It  sucks. It's a waste of my time.

Brian - it was held this past weekend mainly because it's the same weekend it was held last year (only it was Pros only).  I think it was generally agreed that a similar event like this will be in a much warmer month next year :)

Why did GRABM wait so long to try and sanction the event?  I know the only reason it was sanctioned was to get the insurance, did the club not know this months in advance?

For anyone to be bitching about the job Brett is doing is just outlandish.  I hope threads and accusations like this don't run Brett off from being state coordinator (or a TD).
Vibram Disc Golf, Ledgestone Insurance, Paragon and Whirld Sports are all cool. Real cool.

Over the past 24 hours i've had a ton of postive support delivered via private message, e-mail, and calls. I appreciate all the positive and it really has helped me get thru this situation. I would not usually respond the way I did but that kind of post really set me off.

I have learned a couple of things from this. There are people who have no clue how PDGA Scheduling in Illinois works. I'll leave my Kentucky comments & response to Duain out of this because it would offend pretty much everyone within the border of that state. There is a set practice that has been used the past 4 years for all Illinois TD's to schedule a PDGA Event. It is not identical to Wisconsin but I have watched and learned from Terry Miller the WI State Coordinator. It is a fair system and is set up to benefit BOTH the TD/Clubs and the players of Illinois. The good state coordinators and states are doing their jobs by avoiding conflicts when they can be avoided.

It amazes me that the comment below in response to sanctioning on the Fox Valley Board is taken and passed along as a negative.
"just an FYI. I put the decision in Dana's hands to allow the doubles to be sanctioned or not. He ok'd the doubles so I approved it. If he said no I would not have approved the date."

It also amazes me that i've been accused of personal gain thru this. Have disc golfers figured out there is no personal financial gain in this sport? There is a reason the # of pros stays the same over the years while the amateur ranks continue to stay the same or grow. There is a reason the TD circuit is a revolving door. It's this very same BS that pushes many good Tournament Directors out of the game.

I read this post yesterday. It's not the same situation but it's similar to what is going on in the disc golf world. Read post #109 by member 7584.

I can completely feel for what that guy was talking about in his post.  My dad died during my first tournament - the first Irish You the Best of Luck @ Elk Grove Village.  Thankfully half the merch was mine and half the merch was Eric's - the other TD.  He and Alicia stayed behind while my wife and I went to hospital to see his lifeless body.  It sure does put the tournament and all the petty tournament squabble in perspective.  I can't believe that I went back to the tournament, but I had to pick up my merch and all.  There was a foot of snow on the ground, and after getting back there it was all I could do to just walk through the snow and not want to fall flat on my face.

To this day I still remember the one squabble that someone had (and I won't name the name, but I've gotten to know this person better since then and they are cool with me).  The complaint was asking how in the world we could have no max weight Roc's in stock.  They made a HUGE deal about it, and I felt like garbage for not stocking the right stuff.  We had plenty of DX and Pro Roc, but no max weight.  That stuck with me (and still has), so they'll be happy to know that nowadays about all I order is max weight Roc's, but yeah - talk about not worth my time on that particular day.  My Dad loved the game even though he sucked at it.  He just loved getting out there with his family.  If he had not died, I wouldn't have been able to use the van for trucking all of this stuff around, my inventory wouldn't be where it is now, and I'd probably still be living in an apartment.  Life certainly does change.  I've tried to take his death and use it as motivation to continue on with the tournaments, although every tournament I do I stop and think about just how much fun he would have had helping me run these things.  He had the same helper's mentality as Adrian Sr (whose help I appreciate immensely).

Thanks for finding and sharing that post Brett, it brought up some fond, although bittersweet, memories for me.

My last thoughts on this topic and i'm done.

Feel free to speak with Mike LaScola and Jeremy Rockwell. Both contacted me about running sanctioned events in Rockford this year. I would love to get some feedback from them about the experience they had communicating with me. I have done my best to help both with any questions or concerns they had about sanctioned events.

I played both singles events in Rockford this year. We had a car load of 4 play both events. I would have played the doubles event if it was not the same weekend of Joliet. My goal was to play 20+ events this year but missed Hamilton due to sickness and came up 1 short. I have been supportive to Rockford events this year.
