Uhm...If its in Indiana, who the hell chose that??    I mean come on, why not actually have it IN Illinois?    We hear enough people bitching that no one will design a good course in Illinois and we have it completely out of state??    Hell, my choice would of been in Rockford where Mad City is every year or Sinnissippi

well, we're already going to Sinnissippi, just a B-Tier, not an A-Tier.  Lemon Lake is a FANTASTIC site to host an A-tier, and major kudos to Brett for landing the approvals to host a tournament here.  Thumbs up to the Indiana guys :)

The IOS had frequently gone up to Kenosha in the past, so going out of state isn't always out of the question.  Perhaps we should call it the "Greater Illinois Open Series" ;)

One last note - Rockford is not where the Mad City is.  Mad City is in Madison, WI.

This should be a fantastic event, and by the time it's done nobody is going to care that they had to cross a state line to participate!

Yeah except its a major ass drive for some people!
It might be a great location but I think it would of been nice to ask people their thoughts on where the A-tier should be

Really?  You can't enjoy the fact that there's going to be an A-Tier at a very awesome course?  If we get in a great course in the local area, then I'd be happy to help support a team that wants to run an A-Tier.

Would you rather we run no A-Tier at all?

Oh, and for the record - the distance traveled from your hometown (at least what the PDGA says) to the Lemon Lake course is 83 miles.  By comparison, to get you to Anna Page Park in Rockford you're traveling 102 miles.  So it's actually closer for you than where you'd hope to see an A-Tier go in.  Case closed.

considering that pro worlds is being held at the same location this year i am excited for this event to be coming. id say that more than qualifies it as a fantastic place to have an A teir event.

dana

Wow.  Really?  You want to vote on the location of where a tourney should be when you have no part in running it?
Interesting.
Vibram Disc Golf, Ledgestone Insurance, Paragon and Whirld Sports are all cool. Real cool.

Lemon Lake is an obvious choice for a DISContinuum Sponored A Tier.  Thanks again to Brian, Jay, Kurt, and all of the Red Roc Team for working with the IOS Team and allowing us to help showcase Lemon Lake.

Sponsoring tournaments and spreading disc golf good will from Crown Point Indiana to Sterling Illinois covers a large area.  We also have tournaments closer by.  While we don't have the courses around here to hold an A tier event, there is the staff and support team who can accept such an undertaking.

Hopefully one day we will get a local course that can hold an A Tier, but in the meantime the IOS team will continue to do their thing.

Great job guys.

thank you moderators for moving this thread.

an a tier needs a minimum of 2 great courses. with the size of the player base this area needs 3 courses.

if fathergod is going to get 18 baskets tee signs and set up the 3rd course at rockford im all in. oh. dont forget the minimum 1500 added cash.

Mike,

I am pretty sure it will be the same fee that it always is at the park.  the park sets the fee, not the tds.

Mike Clark

I know a few people have already said it but I feel it is worth repeating cause its the truth and important to change.

When there are enough A-tier quality courses in our tournament area there will be another A-tier in the Northern Illinois area. Until then Lemon Lake is the best venue in the area to run an A-Tier tournament hands down. Rockford was nice but Lemon Lake is better. It is truly a shame that the tournament has to go out of state but that is the way it is given the current course situation.

As always. Thank you IOS for running great tournaments.

wouldnt it be better to have the usdgc spot go to whoever wins the Greater Peoria Open? that way more Illinoisan people would have a chance at it. or is it to late in the year for that? it is a A teir as well. what happens if someone from out of Illinois wins? do they get it?

Several reasons I chose Illiana Open over GPO.
1. I'm involved with Illiana Open. It will be an A-Tier.
2. I anticipate just as many IL players at the Illiana Open as GPO.
3. 2010 Pro Worlds is at this location.
4. Anyone from IL really wanting to play the USDGC will find a way to play this event.

No one from outside Illinois will win this spot as they are not eligible. See link below of last year's info.

1st.  I'm glad that it is at Lemon Lake...It has great courses.
2nd.  I understand the argument to make the Illinois qualifier more central to all of illinois, but it is Brett's decision, he can give it to whomever, however, whenever he wants. (I personally don't want his job as Illinois Rep, so he can have the decision too.)  I feel he does a more than adequate job as PDGA Illinois rep.
3rd.  One spot I like that has three course now for an A tier is Springfield,  They now have 36 holes at Lincoln park, and they are pretty darn good holes, and I personally like Douglas park.  It is a little shorter, but can be tweaked to make the difficulty a little higher.

All that said, thanks everyone who is stepping up to make the IOS possible this year.  I love the series, and have always really appreciated everyone who helps with these events.

Thanks,
DaveO

Dave,

I agree 100% that Springfield would be a great place to host an A-Tier. I wish we had those course up here.

Dave,

I agree 100% that Springfield would be a great place to host an A-Tier. I wish we had those course up here.

We have plans for a 4th course in a park called Centennial... It got bumped by a prairie squirrel first than prairie grasses that were planted.  The Park District is very happy with Disc Golf in SPI and it is their plan that we have that course in 2 years.

When that course is in - already mapped out and approved... it is a bomber course that includes a 800ft down hill hole at the turn... we go A-Tier.  Once the Prairie Grasses Establish and Take Permanent Root - baskets and teepads should be approved.

We kind of see ourselves as a host club... we want to be the crossroads of Mid-West Disc Golf...  where the best of Quad Cities, STL, Peoria , Bloomington, Indy and Chicagoland can meet up to play against the best.

That is our plan and our goal.
