I am not sure how many victories the Sox will end up with, but it will have to be a pretty amazing play to be the play of the year over the play that Buerle made today.

Jim Bassett

What a great start and an overall look at what this year should be. From great hitting to timely offense and speed on the basepaths. Oh, and the relievers. Buerhle's play and Rios' catch to end the game should easily make tonight's top 10. GO SOX!

Griffey Jr. retiring last night.  Its strange to see how far he fell out of the limelight over the last 10 years.  When I was growing up, he was by far the most popular player.  I was obsessed with collecting Griffey cards when I was 10-14 yrs old, as were most of the other kids.  Its hard to remember how good he was because of how inconsequential he's been over the last decade due to one devastating leg injury after the next.  Looking at his career stats for his core years of productivity ('90-'07), its conservative to say he missed 3 1/2 seasons of real productivity due to injury.  He still ended with 630 HR.  Give him those years back and he cruises by Babe Ruth at 714 HR.  That part was a shame, but clearly still one of the greatest careers of all-time.

very true Dan. I still have his rookie card. The sweetest left handed swing I ever saw. effortless. And he was truely one of the luckiest players of all time,,,,given the fact he got to play on a team with his father!
And never once has this guy been linked to any illegal substance. One of the best I ever got to watch play.

Unless you count the Simpson's episode where Mr. Burns gives Griffey "nerve tonic", resulting in gigantism.  8)

In case you didn't know, Ozzie just wanted to remind everybody that he is a fantastic guy and the only one looking out for Latino ballplayers.

Yeah, the Cubs have given up about 50 hits in the last 2 or 3 games. Maybe Lou needs to make a statement of some kind.
Yawn.

Lou already did. He is quitting on his team at years end. His polite way of saying this orginization sucks!!  ;D

I love that a link to a front page story about Ozzie on the 2010 White Sox thread elicits 2 posts that are only about the Cubs.  You guys just keep feeding into the Sox fan stereotype.  The Cubs suck?  Really??!!  That is groundbreaking news guys.  This is why you average 12,000 less fans per game than the Cubs when the Cubs are in 5th place and the Sox are in 1st.

Instead of wetting yourself because the Cubs are having their 47th rough season in the last 50, maybe you should purchase a ticket and go watch your 1st place team?

Since you guys want to talk about the Cubs, I will oblige you  :D

I'm actually excited for the future of this team.  Thinking back, I can't remember a significant everyday top notch position player out of our own farm system since Mark Grace.  Its been 1 failed top prospect after another (i.e. Corey Patterson, Felix Pie, Kevin Orie, Gary Scott, Bobby Hill, Hee Seop Choi, Jerome Walton, Dwight Smith...on and on).  This is the single biggest reason we haven't won despite having one of the top 5 payrolls each year.  Even the Yankees were unable to buy a team and win a WS without players from their own farm system.  They only broke their drought of the 80's and early 90's when Jeter, Posada, Mariano Rivera, Bernie Williams, etc... came along out of their own system.  You can not win without talent from your own system, plain and simple.  The 90's Braves are the best example of this.

Right now with Colvin, Castro, and Soto I think the Cubs have the best chance to finally produce a position player.  Soto appears to be back to the form of his rookie year.  I have been in love with Colvin since spring training and he just keeps getting better, that catch he made last night in the 1st inning showed how athletic and talented this guy is.  Castro is only 20 and has alot of improving to do, but he is certainly serviceable at his young age.  I'd like to think that 3 or 4 years from now, these 3 guys will be the core of our team.  We will be past the Soriano, Fukudome, Lee, and Ramirez era and able to spend our money (hopefully more wisely this time) on some players, not to create a team, but to compliment a solid core that already exists.

I've waited this long, I can wait 3 more years for a championship.  Hopefully the Cubs front office has this mentality and will not jump on aging veterans with long-term deals in a desperate effort to win now.  Its going to be rough watching Soriano for the next 4 years, but at least I've got Colvin and Castro to keep me optimistic.

keep wishing Dan. If they couldn't win 2 years ago, with all that talent. They wont be winners in 3-4 years, or even 30-40 years. I mean cmon, it's the Cubs! All they know is how to dissapoint, and they are very good at that. The kids wont be able to turn around that losing franchise!

We know early next year you will post the topic 2011 Cubs, and we will practically cry from laughing so hard.
Oh wait, The Brewers scored again!!  ;D 18-1

But when you do post it, please put in there again how the underachieving Cardinals will be lucky to win the division, AGAIN!

Brett? did u fall and bump your head?
Pujols will not be a CUB! He already said he wants to win Championships. Why would he go to where no titles in 102 years? As a Cards fan, after we didn't get Oswalt from Philly, I know Pujols will be in St. Louis for his entire career. Had Oswalt signed, his 16mil in 2012 would have taken away from Pujols, and he might have been a Yankee. But now with Ludwicks salary gone, and getting money in the Ludwick deal, They made room for Alberts contract extension, for the rest of his career.

You Cub fans sure do dream BIG!  :D

AND, even if the Cubs got him, they would find a way to lose.
Or make another Ernie Broglio for Lou Brock trade. The worst trade in MLB history.  :o  Broglio played 2 and a half more seasons, to where Brock was the stolen base leader for years, and is in the HOF.

Why is a Cardinals fan bashing the Cubs in a White Sox thread?
