Was the IOS #3 cancelled at Sterling? I don't see it on the PDGA or on this board.

Don't forget that we have a quick turnaround between IOS #3 and IOS #4.  IOS #4 @ Aurora is only 2 weeks away!  Let's start getting in those pre-registrations so that we can properly prepare for another good tournament!

What is the plan for extra holes?  Is the course looking pretty dry?  I think I have a conflict that weekend, but if not, maybe i'll make the drive.

We are going out this week to see where they put the soccer fields (and what 17 looks like). We are planning at least 21 holes.

i dont understand why the PD doesnt do something about 17s fairway. The course and park is beautiful all except for that one eye sore. couple truck loads of dirt and some grass seed would go a long way.

Could be that the area is designated as a flood plain.

Jericho Park is way down there on the Park Districts priority list. They don't even put garbage cans out except a few holes. There is a plan in place for a major overhaul for Jericho Park. They are real quiet on when and what will be done. A boat rental and launch are in that plan with a parking lot where the house was that they bought and tore down next to the entrance. We can only cross our fingers that the Disc Golf is saved or improved!

highly doubtful considering the area just south of the fairway. on top of that, its doubtful that they wouldve allowed a course to be played across a true flood plain. main reasons being that foot traffic would destroy the look of the park (aesthetics matter to PDs despite the activity) and mowing a flood plain regularly sux! and cost extra $$ for the right lawn mower to handle it. im sure the flooding issue was a non-intended result that the PD cant justify spending the money on it. afterall, dont we need another $10k bench?

If you look on the FEMA maps, the entire course is in a Zone AE flood plain.

I'm pretty sure you're not allowed to fill the low spots of a designated flood plain.   ;)

Simple answer is that it's not permitted to reduce the flood retention capacity of a parcel designated flood plain. It's possible to fill in low spots just so long as you make lower spots in the process. The problem lies in gaining the necessary permissions to do so. The engineering and environmental impact work can burn up a fair sum so its easier to just treat it as an absolute no.

Once upon a time, the creek flowed across the area where the course is now from somewhere in between the tees for #11 and #12 to east of #18 tee. The diversion looks man made but I'm not certain. The park department needs to stop trying to grow grass there and let it revert, or better, do a wetlands restoration to that corner of the park. Ideal world would be to sculpt revised holes #17 and #18 through the created wetlands though the more likely solution would be to relocate two holes to the area east of #8 tee.

We are going to play two rounds of 22 holes. A course map can be found here:

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msa=0&msid=206665679093820992464.0004370a6863066e9afb6&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=17

The exact location of the first temp hole is subject to change as the soccer fields were not lined when we were out there. We will most likely use a temp location for hole 17 as indicated on the map. This is to bring some of the swamp out of play.

Please pre-register. Only divisions that have at least two entrants pre-registered will have trophies. An exception is made for the Junior divisions. Trophies will be made for any junior division where there is at least one pre-registered.

Online registration closes at noon on Friday. Register here: illinoisopenseries.com

For those that are playing for series points. Just a reminder that you need at least three events to be considered playing for the series. In some divisions, the race is wide open. Come out to Aurora this weekend and get your points for the series (especially if you think you might be bumped after the next ratings update!)
