We put the Tobbogan course in the ground today for Am Nationals next weekend.  Mark Ellis and I walked the course and marked tee and basket locations.  A truck load of guys drove the course and spiked Chainstar portables in the designated locations.  Another truck load of guys drove the course and rolled out the fly pads.

Then we played Lizard Games and ate food.  My team won the first game when I made a 40 foot putt to the platform at the top of a tall slide.

Then we played the Tobbogan, best shot pro-am doubles.  I snuck over to the am side and stayed there when Mark said, "If you normally play tournaments in a division below advanced, go to the am side."  I drew an anti-bagger on the pro side, who was glad to have bagger help from the am side.

This is how tough the Tobbogan is:  We played reasonably well and shot it five over.  Mark Ellis had a partner and shot it three over.  Kirk 990 Haggadone had a partner and shot it five over.  The winners shot par.

There are 4.5 days remaining if you want to play this course.

Meanwhile, if I say anything about wanting to qualify in 2004 hit me in the head with a 2 X 4.  When I say, "What was that for?!" you can say, "There, you've already had more fun than playing the Tobbogan three times in three days."

I will try Bruce. If you say it makes Stoney Creek look easy, i'm in for a long day. What a ballbuster course.

Both are long, tough courses.  The big differences are that every bleeping hole on the Tobbagan has some kind of elevation change and no one has thought to "lengthen" the Tobbogan by adding five birdie holes in the middle somewhere.  The Tobbogan has 6 holes where I can imagine a birdie during a well-oxygenated creative moment.  All these holes are over 300 feet and up or down big hills.  The Tobbogan has at least six holes where a 3 feels like a birdie.  In other words, if you put your drive in the fairway, what you have left is a decent hole on a normal course.

Let's pick a date next time I'm in town.

Bruce, can you pick me up 2-3 first run Crush discs from the Am Nationals in the 166-68 range?  If you can I would also like to get one of those grippy wasps that you were talking about on another thread in the upper 170's.  I am truly unhappy that I was not playing well enough this year to make it to this event, I know that I would have done well on this course.  o'well.. see ya soon
Let us hope that the whores of evil no longer loiter on the doorsteps of your path beckoning you into the brothel of despair, and that here and after may present them with the most rigid manistfestation of a firm and manly will.

Bruce, just wondering if you saw my last post?

The grass will stay cut until spring.  If anyone wants to come out for some commando Tobbogan in October, I would be happy to set something up.  Each player could take a turn carrying the skillshot, or we could hire Jamie Mosier for about $5 each if we had a foursome.  I can round up a foursome if I'm starting with a twosome or threesome.

Played the Tobbogan in singles today with a couple of elderly friends, PDGA Communication Director Terry Calhoun, and disc artist Tony Kroes.  Tony does a lot of Jaybird's stamps.

I shot +11 but could have shot +10.  This was good enough to tie 928 rated Terry Calhoun who could also have shot +10 but for one bad putt on the last hole!

This is one tough course!  Brett, you have to find a weekend to come out.

Thought we had a Stoney thread but could not find it.  Imagine an entire message board about disc golf and not a single Stoney thread.

Ba-dum-bump!!

At Stoney par 72 for 24 from the longs is a 1000 rated round.  At Tobbogan par 54 for 18 is also about a 1000 rated round, so the difficulty is similar, but the courses are very different.

Kelsey, Kira and I played Stoney today.  Kelsey played shorts and that was her handicap.  Kira played shorts and we gave her 12 throws.  I played longs.  It was chilly and windy on the open holes.  I played a little better than my rating from the longs and Kira did a little better than her rating from the shorts so after the 12 throw adjustment I beat Kira by 1.  Kelsey crushed her rating from the shorts and shot a round that would have been rated 906 on a nice day in July.

At one point Kelsey had 4 birdies on five holes.

I'm hoping that this Kelsey comes with me to Bowling Green.  Four rounds of that can compete with anything that Nicole can bring!
