it will be an interesting off season

my problem with ozzie and his family  >  olney or what ever tweeted about personal info he learned from
his dad  , Jenks issues should NOT have been public regardless of what they were

then when the white sox are are  3games out  and they were asking for playoff down payments
ozzie was planning his florida escape   , what f)_*(king Bullsh_t

horrible way that last season ended,   no one in the universe would have predicted Dunn's struggles ,
Peavy 's contining issues  and Rios

but thats LAST YEAR   , white sox fans can move on

I will boooo Ozzie when the Marlins come to town  , plenty of seats available on the north side and south side next year

so we just traded our closer who was a short stop for a starter who was a 3rd basemen
next will be quintan then thornton

# 56  deserves every penny he can get   in the free agent market

the roster as it stands now compared to late March will be different

Go White Sox !

Add FuKudome to that lineup and you have 2 100+ SO rally killers in the lineup. Feel the Cubs pain.

Well the Sox got him for 1 yr $1M, compared to the Cubs getting him for 4 yr $50M, so I don't think they'll feel quite the same pain.  Remember when we signed him and the experts were converting his Japanese stats into what they'd be in MLB?  He was supposed to be something like a .290 20HR low strikeout guy.

Signing these Japanese stars to lucrative contracts before they've had any experience over here has proved to be a risky investment.  The Cubs were burned with Kosuke, the Mets with Kaz Matsui, the Red Sox with Daisuke, the Yankees with Hideki Irabu, and there have been a couple other flops as well.  So far, Hideo Nomo, Ichrio, and Hideki Matsui are the only guys who you'd say have really made an impact over here.  It'll be interesting to see how this $70M pitcher the Rangers just got ends up doing.

The problem with the Cubs was the price of the contract. He was way overpaid by the former regime. Fukadome was a reliable player of above average ability who was paid superstar money.  The Sox need a good glove in the outfield and got it for a cheap price.  His bat, to say the least, has been variable.  The Sox will expect him to hit his career average of .260 and understand situational baseball. Everything else will be gravy. This deal is more like the deals the current Cubs regime is seeking. I suspect that the one year deal will have him playing to impress GM's around the league as he auditions for his next deal.  He is not a problem guy but he was a problem contract.  Not at this price.

Can there be an asterisk put next that perfect game?

Probably the least impressive perfect game you could ever pitch.  First of all its against a Mariners team hitting a collective .223 this season and has the 2nd worst on base% in the league at .272.  Secondly, what was up with that last pitch that was 8 feet outside and why would the home-plate umpire not defer to the 1B umpire to make the call on the check swing?  Ridiculous.

Tom Verducci wrote a nice article on SI.com that addresses the Mariners futility.  This also seems to be the year where it is walk, strikeout, or home run.  Not a big fan of this style of baseball.

There was also an article on SI.com talking about closers and the rate of breakdown.  Baseball needs to work pitchers in a different manner, injuries are way too prevalent.

only a  cub fan would ask this   Can there be an asterisk put next that perfect game?

It doesnt matter that the mariners suck, he got 27  batters  out,  fairly easily

how many no hitter perfect games does  prior and wood have ?

The # 5  starter on the sox is better than cubs # 1  starter.

I thought I might ask my mlb umpire acquantenance about the last pitch,
but the call is the call.  By the way he threw out quade last year out of a game.
so hes my hero

cubs suck >  they should nt even play their games they are so bad, no way playoffs can be made.
but this is what happens every year in cub ville.   wait til next year banner has been raised prior to the end of april

Yeah, it was easy.  That was my point.

Who cares?

Which pitcher on the Sox staff would you NOT trade for Garza straight up?  The Cubs #1 is better than the Sox #1-5.

Yes, the Cubs suck really bad.  I don't think we'll finish ahead of the Pirates and it might be close with the Astros.  On the other hand, what are the Sox chances at the playoffs this year being in the same division with Detroit?  You think its good?  The entire Sox roster seems to be on the wrong side of 30 and the front office mortgaged the future to win immediately with these players, so tell me how the Sox are much better off right now than the Cubs?

Haters gonna hate.  That perfect game was just like the previous 20, perfect. 27 up 27 down. The last batter obviously followed through on a horrible pitch making it a strike out.  I don't see the fuss.  The only people upset about that call are Cub fans it seems.

Garza is a good #2.  Right now it looks like the Sox have 5 #2's and its a wash. However, I would take Peavy as he has the potential to still give many years as a #1 and his ball looks very live lately and I would take Sale as he is very young and may be a #1 and an all-start. Only tiime will tell.  Danks, Floyd and Humber would all be a wash for Garza as I see it now.  the Cubs have 1 Garza. The Sox have 3that are at least as good and two who I would strongly prefer.

That being said, Cub fans have to look long range. I think the current regime will bring success to the north side. It will not be this year.  Castro looks like he is maturing as a player and is every bit as good as the hype says he should be.

Last night I was watching the Sox and my wife saw 15 0's on the scoreboard and commented, "I can't beileve you are still watching this. Baseball is so @#$% boring."  I think there may be a lot of that kind of boredom this year and that means a much better year than predicted.  Post-season? I doubt it, but three will be a lot of well played and well pitched games.

Cubs fans have been looking long range for 104 years now!!!  Pick a new team.

Solid performance by Phil "#2 Caliber" Humber last night.  Wierd how that happens when you have to pitch against actual major league hitters.
