I kind of resent that.  I don't like to criticize the Cubs, I freakin LOVE it!   ;D      when you are bad for 104 years, it becomes natural to be criticized!

Yep, one of my former clients is that ump .

If the Sox happen to make the playoffs they'll probably run some $5 promotion on tickets.

I do find it funny when White Sox fans talk chit about the Cubs. Since 1995 they have the exact number of division titles. Just because they lucked into a World Series they think they are superior.

Well they better, because they drew a grand total of 14,000 for yesterday's game in the heat of a pennant race.  And there wasn't close to that in the actual stadium.  Not even White Sox fans actually care one iota about this team.

Being a kid who rooted for both teams and went to games at both stadiums I can say that the only difference between the teams and their fans is geography. The Sox ballpark is not in a good baseball neighborhood and hasn't been my entire life. Wrigley IS a baseball neighborhood and has been all my life. When I was a kid the only difference between the games to me was what happened outside the stadium.

But inside the stadium it was baseball, hotdogs, peanuts and my Dad giving me my first taste of beer when I was 10 years old and had gotten a bad peanut and there was nothing else to drink around since I had finished my coke hours ago. We'd go to Wrigley and cheer on the Cubs and the next month we'd go to Comiskey and root for the Sox. Spending the afternoon at a baseball game was magic to my eyes.

Outside the stadium after a Cubs game we'd walk a few blocks to the service station where we seemed to always park and wait for the stragglers to get there and drive off so my Dad could get his truck out. I don't know if they do that anymore but these little service station lots would just load the cars in bumper to bumper and you couldn't leave until the cars that paid for parking after you would get there and leave first. On the days that Bruce and I went by ourselves we'd take the L to Evanston and then walk to another train and take that out to the 'burbs where our Dad would pick us up at the train station. Just an 8 year old and his 15 year old brother by themselves in the city! Those were the days.

After a Sox game was a little different...and so much more memorable! We'd walk across the street to the parking lot and there our truck was waiting for us. One time when crossing that parking lot a woman started trying to talk to my Dad and my oldest brother. I knew she was selling something but I couldn't figure out what but she had a special deal if my Dad and brother would buy in together. After she left I asked them what that lady wanted. My Dad just turned and looked at me and said "That was no lady!" The drive out of the neighborhood was always fun also. Never saw so many guys just peeing out in the open. At least on the golf course that my Dad would take me to a guy would at least go into the bushes. One time I saw a man and woman having sex next to a dumpster in an alley just a couple of blocks from the park. At least by then I knew what that was and didn't have to ask. But ah the sights and smells for a sheltered suburb living youngster like myself to see!

The teams change from year to year. None of the guys who are on the teams will likely be there 10 years from now. Most will be gone and forgotten in just a few years. Same with the coaches. I can't tell who's a Cubs fan or Sox fan by looking at them unless they're wearing team merch. I wouldn't know what team Barish roots for just by looking at him. So the real difference is just geography. One team is over here and the other is over there. It makes all the difference in how many people attend no matter what the playoff race looks like.

I know it is really important for most people to have just one team to root for. I get that. But make no mistake. There's no difference in the team that you root for other than the name, the mascot and uniform but most importantly the address of the stadium!

I watched the 9th inning last night. The Indians tried to gift wrap one with 2 outs in the 9th. Can't believe he threw that ball away. I was expecting the 2 run dong for the win.

Tough time for the Sox. Catching TB on a hot 7 game winning streak, now 8. Dunn with his 212 K to end the game! TB is in the hunt. Depending on this series it could come down to TB & the O's in that last series. I enjoyed watching the TB/Boston game last year on the final day. Will it come down to the last out again?

It's looking like the Sox fans will be watching the Bears with us Cubs fans. No fall baseball in Chi-Town.

What a shame the last week and a half has been...

I don't think I can stomach watching the Sox blow any more opportunities.  How many Bases loaded w/ no Outs have they had and only scored on a walk, a hit by a pitch and  Double Play...   and Konerko... WTF happened?!

I was just looking thru the FA lists. The Sox have a ton of free agents and some tough decisions to make. Lack off attendance could play a major factor this offseason.
