So Diana and I were talking while I was doing sticker work on this concept disc that is still looking for its concept.  And Diana says, "I know how Jo-Jo cuts all those circles."  And I say, "Oh?"  And she says, "Yeah he uses [these things]."  And I say, "You think?"  And she says, "He must."

So I decided to use those things to do some circle patterns and cut them out.  They did not work for cutting purposes, but since I had a disc all stickered over and the stickers all circlefied I got a knife and cut up the circles by hand.  I'll post those pics tomorrow or the next day.

This is the concept disc that did not really work for me.  The concept is that the pattern is made by stickers that are scale miniature paving stones like what you could have done for a patio or driveway.  I guess the problem is that the pattern is boring.  I have an idea for an interesting pattern.

This is the second disc I did in the style of Jo-Jo.  The first one is in the garage and it is cold out there tonight!  And for Josh Hamm's benefit, I don't have or use a plotter.  I cut the pattern by hand using the same techniques Jo-Jo says he uses.  And now I believe him.  It is not hard, but it is exacting.

Dying discs is so easy, when we tell people the secrets they don't believe us!  None of these discs are going to be on e-bay.  If you see one you like, contact me by e-mail or im or pm.  Otherwise, they will be trophy discs for Kensington Big D Special League Doubles.

It takes me about three hours to draw a pattern, apply it to the disc and cut it out.  The cutting is the most tedious part.  I'm going to keep making these until I run out of ideas.  I'll post another one tonight.

I sold a mistake yesterday for $15.  It was just a $5 Challenger with some spirals that bled badly.  So I tried to dye the entire top black leaving the bottom orange, but the tape residue blocked the second dye about 30-60% in an uneven pattern.  Looked like a spiraled orange disc that was thoroughly toasted.  I think the guy who bought it was toasted too.

This one is based on the flag pirate Henry Avery flew.  He was forced into piracy when he and his crewmates went four months without pay in the Royal Navy.  They stole the boat, ditched the Captain, and headed south around Africa and back up to the Red Sea.  There they joined forces with several other pirates and plundered the Islamic pilgrims on their way to Mecca.  They took several tonnes of gold, silver and diamonds, divided it in a right pirately fashion, and retired to New Zealand.

Avery eventually changed his name and returned to England with a hoard of diamonds.

Herewith, for your viewing pleasure:
The picture didn't quote.  You'd have to go back to page 2 to see the disc.  Kelsey watched one of my early Pirate Henry Avery discs go to Davey Jone's Locker today.  The pro had it for a couple of years and had never threw it because he liked it too much.  Kelsey recognized the sticker as one she had drawn because the skull was smiling a little too much the way she draws friendly animals.

Does anyone have any favorite sticker patterns they think I should do more of?  The pirate?  The Valkyrie?  Yoda?  Jerry?  I need some inspiration.  I might do some of those wildcats.

I've been doing some dying recently but mostly fire, spirals and herringbones and they are starting to bore me.  Players really like the fire patterns here in Michigan.  I guess I should stick to what sells.

Well, I know that I would buy a black and white pirate design off ya if you have a 165g (166g is ok too) on an ESP Surge or a Pro or Star SL.

~~another suggestion~~

I have two pirates on fire and another Bears disc under dye right now.  The Bears disc is an orange Pulse.

[edit:] Here's the Bear's disc.  The photo is a little blurry.  172 gram Pulse.  Yes, it is for sale.  If you like it, play Bevier league Super Bowl Sunday and bring some cash.

Kelsey's camera saved all of these with names like P1000437 and P1000438 so every one is a surprise to me until I crop and size it.  Here's the pirate on fire:

This might be the last time I post pics on this thread.  In the future I'm going to just post announcements that there are new pics at glowfoto with a link.  I thought I'd give the IOS players first crack at the new stuff this time.

Diana is offended by overt drug references in dye art, but she does not get this one.  I'm constantly cleaning up my act getting off drugs, currently getting off caffeine and high fructose sugar, but this disc sells and I enjoy cutting it out.  I'm sorry drugs killed him too young.  He could play some music:

so are you willing to share the best dye methodology with us Bruce or are you hanging onto it?  I like to dye my discs with my own personal logo (my avater) and have had OK success but am always looking for pointers.

Disc Dying Secrets 101 on pdga.com in the equipment threads has some useful information salted among the crazy, dangerous and expensive ideas.

I'm not posting disc dying secrets on the internet because I live about an hour point five from a certain someone's house and he is truly a maniac in real life.  I'm serious about that.

But good things happen to good people.  You sow lucite trophies donated to club tournaments and you reap unexpected blessings.

When someone does something nearly the same does it make you feel upset or humbled:

Dr. Dye vs. This Guy

Pretty much the same thing. There are two others if you look in the sellers other items.

That design may have been original in Jo-Jo's mind, but it was original in other minds before his.  This design has been on a site I steal ideas from for years:

I saw these the first day they listed.  At first I think to myself, hey you jerk, come up with your own designs.  Then, not but a moment later, I remember that is how I started.  Find something I like and see if I can do something like it.  I didnt sell any of my early work though.  I did it for free to learn.  I am sure a bunch of people here have some of my really early work.  Maybe without the DR DYED even, or just DR DYE like I did in the first year or so.

So I guess I take it as a compliment.

Now if someone what pumping out a bunch of discs with original designs I came up with over and over again, then I might get a little mad.  I would probably try to contact the guy and ask him to come up with some of his own ideas.

And Bruce is right.  Sometimes I have found some of the simple designs elsewhere and tried to make them my own.  In fact that specific design you linked to I think was inspired by some egyptian art or something of the like(so not a completely orginal idea).

The same guy was listing a few that where much more orginal designs, or at least not DR DYED looking.
