I am new to Disc Golf and was wondering where I can purchase discs in the Chicagoland area. I know I can get them off the net but I wanted to know if there was somewhere I could purchase them.

Hey AK, glad you stopped by!

As far as I know, there aren't very many places in the North suburbs that sell discs. I know for sure that the Walgreens by Adler park in Libertyville (Hwys 137 and 21) sells discs and if you catch them at the right times will have a pretty good selection of regular to professional quality plastic.

For example, you may find one kind of disc - a discraft Xpress, lets say - that vaires in price from around $8 to up to the $16 area. The reason for the differences in price has largely due to the type of plastic used in the mold. A regular plastic disc will wear less gracefully and show more signs of abuse more quickly, ie: scuffs from hitting concrete and asphalt or warps from hitting trees, etc. Typically the more you pay for a disc the higher quality the plastic. Additionally, the higher quality plastics may feel more stiff and appear to have more of a shine.

Innova identifies their higher quality plastics with the KC Pro or JK Pro labels.

Getting back to where else to buy.... I know theres a Mobil station close to Crystal Lake that sells discs, I seem to remember stories of another place in Libertyville as well. Also, the Sports Authority by Gurnee Mills carried plastic last year, but they consider it more of a summer seasonal sport and their selection shows that mentality. If there is a Play it Again Sports close by to the course you play at, they have been known to carry discs as well.

I guess we could give you better answers if we knew the area you're from...

what up???????? welcom to the DISContinuum Bord! The best & cheapest way to go is to order through our club president Jim Klem. He gets great prices through Disc Golf World & SunKing Discs. I don't know of many stores that have a great selection of discs. The WalGreens in Libertyville has some disc but they are picked over at this point. There are also a few White Hens that sell discs in this are but I still think the best bet is to contact Jim through e-mail or come up to Bevier and meet Jim. Hope this helps. Later & Welcome!

Play It Again Sports in Northbrook caries a decent selection of discs and I know that last season the Play It Again Sports in Palatine/Buffalo Grove carried a HUGE selection of discs, but I haven't been there yet this year. Also as Mirth said the by the Crystal Lake course the Shell gas station (corner 176 and 14) carries a very good selection of discs, though it may be picked over now. They also see Lightning Disc players bags there.

Hope that helps!
