hey guys ... first time viewer and poster but have been playing a long time..

my name is matt welter and ive played a plenty of tourneys but now after watching my 7 year old daughter throw a roc 85 feet and along with her interest in the game she wants to start playing more as well as tournaments cause we are naturally competitive.:)

which brings me to the point of this post which is where are the tournaments that have a lot of juniors there locally or even national events(within 400 miles)?

we wanted to go to worlds but you have to play a tournament in 2012 to be eligible...which actually knocks both of us out cause I havnt been current for years.(kids suck lol)

so im reaching out to anyplayers  in the know so we don't go to a tourney and its one other girl or guy in the juniors...

cant find much info about the us championships so if someone has links with help or answers would be much appreciated.

thanks again, welter

If there is still space after the worlds invite period to sign up ends then you should be able to sign your daughter up once you get her a PDGA membership and have her pass the official's test.  There are really not many other Junior rich fields.

Unless you're in Charlotte, where they started a program to promote disc golf for kids last year and are doing a youth league this year: http://www.charlottedgc.com/2013/03/27/mcpr-disc-golf-youth-leagues/

I'm surprised something like this hasn't popped up here yet with all the high schools having disc golf courses on/near the property.

When my brother's daughters wanted to play tournaments he had them recruit their friends. They would get together once a week at a local course to practice and then they'd play a tournament once a month or so. But if you don't help organize a division there won't be one. By the way my brother's oldest daughter is now in vet school and is the highest rated amateur woman in the world.

I actually have a 6 year old brother who I got playing this year. He still needs some practice but I was thinking about talking to the township (Warren) or one of the park districts about setting up some youth league.

A youth league would be cool. I know my brother would also put up fliers at the course where they would practice to invite new players to come out.

That is a great idea but I don't know if there is a posting board at Warren and I would be far too worried about the fliers becoming litter. My hope is for the Gurnee Park District to advertise disc golf in their summer youth activities catalogue. This would provide an early gauge of how many kids are interested but at the same time it would restrict the amount of kids that it would reach.
