I figured instead of making a new topic everytime I list a new disc, I will now just continue on this thread for all new ebay discs.  So here is the first for the thread!!!

I really like being able to see them spin...and spin...and spin...
Glad you found a way to do that. I'm really digging that Cheetah also (with the 5 circles across the middle of the disc).

I have to say that the Dr. is making a name for himself.  I have had people ask me if the disc I am throwing is a Dr. Dye?  Word get around on a good product..  I say,"Ya it is...I named his ass, pretty cool dye ehh."  Small world..

Always good to hear Shawn!!!

I am forever in debt to both you, for helping me with the name DR DYE, and Brett for offering his recipe to me!!!  Even though since then, my recipe has changed dramatically since the original.  He still got the ball rolling!!!

Don't worry about it Dr. Dye.  I have a bunch of special edition valks. One of them actually had the factory stamp bleed. That plastic gets very soft & gummy when it's hot out.

I figured I'd add this post under this topic, even though the money's going to me and not Joe....  :P

I've put a couple of unthrown Dr Dyes up on Ebay - they're very cool discs, in fact too cool for me to throw personally & since I really need to cut down on all the plastic I've got I figured this might be a good place to start.

I've also put up a "Thor" designed Valk (never thrown) and an old CE Teebird in very good shape. This is my first plunge into Ebay; I'm still seriously thinking of putting up a 'grab bag' of about 50 used discs to see what happens...  ;)

Have a look:

CE TEEBIRD TL (early run):

Damon, I would suggest putting "disc golf" in your title description of your listings.  Then, when some Joe Schmoe looks on ebay for DG items he will find your stuff!!

Good Luck!!! ;)
Title: DR DYE EBAY

Yup, definately put disc golf into the item descriptions. Otherwise you'll get less people looking at the item since most just search for 'disc golf'

It's not often that in an artist's world they get to actually make some money (and plastic) for doing what they love to do. It's a tough and competitive market. Keep up the good work.

Nice! Was that the same one in the picture at Hole 4 yesterday?

Have you tried to dye a Super Roc? I don't throw them, but just thought to ask
Title: DR DYE EBAY
Post by: drdye on June 07, 2004, 04:30:28 PM
Not not the same disc, the one on the sign is a Champ Viking that I sold a couple weeks ago.

Havent dyed the super Rocs yet, but I am certain they dye well.  The only downfall is that they are a SE type plastic, so it will probably soak into the plastic quickly, not positive on that though.
Title: DR DYE EBAY

Dude, you've totally dyed a super roc already! You even sold it on ebay.

I think he is refering to the new super Rocs, not the older ones released a couple years back.

The Docta is correct.

I'm too new-school to know about the old super rocs  <_<

Diron,

Ive dyed the new Super Roc. So far, so good. Colors have stayed pretty vibrant. I don't think the dye sat for even for a day. If I remember, I'll take a picture and post it.
Title: DR DYE EBAY
Post by: drdye on June 08, 2004, 04:17:47 PM
That old SE Roc I sold on ebay just soaked into the plastic so much!!!  I wish I knew it was going to do that, then I would have made the two designs go togather better.

On another note....  Someone from CHING(the owner I think) contacted me recently and sent me a couple of the proto Mojo Excelerator for some test dyes.  They are pretty interesting, I get to keep them, so I am going to go throw them and let you guys know how they fly.  They are not PDGA approved yet, in fact the 2 I got are part of the batch they sent for their PDGA approval.  They are putters, and they also will be coming out with a driver similar to this.  Here is a picture of one of the ones I got.(http://www.drdyed.com/albums/drdye/Proto_Mojo_exlator.sized.jpg)

I am going to try and get out today and give em a throw.  I have one dyeing now, I am going to let it set longer than I normally would because I am uncertain how the dye will take.  I will post some pics if they turn out well.
Title: DR DYE EBAY
Post by: drdye on June 08, 2004, 04:31:29 PM
Oh, the Patent Pending Excelerator countoured flight deck offers a high speed diminishing spoiler resistance for a smoother burn as launch energies transition to flight and glide.  The large flat vertical rim face creates an incredibly predictable controlled glide and more surface impact friction to stick in the chains.  This is a pic of the edge.

All this info comes from a CHING letter inclosed with the discs.  He goes on to say that the dimples on the disc are places to put your thumb.  Some are closer to the edge and some are farther away, with one blank spot, I guess for those who dont like the dimple idea.  Holding it in different spots gives you different hyzer/anhyzer angles.  Well, I guess I am going to go try it.  Wait I hear thunder <_< ...mabye in a little while.

Title: DR DYE EBAY
Post by: D on June 08, 2004, 11:14:25 PM
The dimples should create a similar effect as the Innova Thumbtrack while spinning.

I've read about this disc on the pdga forums and think it's a bit much. It makes me wonder if one day we'll be throwing metallic discs with rocket launchers or some BS  <_< How far does it have to go untill one considers it too be a "new game" ?

But I do think it's cool that comapnies are experimenting, sorta.. any w3rd on the flight Doc?  8)

Well, Trisha and I went out to Parkside to test fly the Mojo today, since its pin configuration is really a chip and putt course anyway.  Nice disc, I have to say.  It feels a little funny in the hand at first, but I started feeling myself getting used to it.  It holds just about any line I gave it and I threw it alot.  Putts drives approach, its a pretty good disc.  I ended up shooting a -12, playing Midwest.  Not to bad.  I only missed about 2 birdie putts with the Mojo, other than that I was sinking everything!!!  Maybe I was getting some "Mojo" off the Proto Mojo....the Proto Mojo "Mojo".  Hehe

So what do you guys think of me using it during leagues....since its not approved, would anyone have any objections to me throwing it???

It would open a can of worms that I'd rather leave closed. I'd consider letting you use it for the Roc vs. Buzzz challenge on Sunday at 10am. It looks in the picture like it'd qualify as a blunt edged weapon.

I think league use shouldn't be allowed, but since this Sunday's one disc ironman isn't a league event I say why not?
After all, a catch disc is a blunt object & probably could be used as well... Although I'd doubt anyone would win using one of them.

Well, I was just kidding anyway, figured you guys wouldnt allow it.  But since we are on the subject...

What about other proto discs, people throw proto discs all the time.   Granted they probably are proto discs that have been now approved.  Or once the Mojo is approved, then am I allowed to throw the proto during leagues or tourneys??  How does it work.

Assuming that the proto and the approved disc are the same, then yes it is legal. If it doesn't pass one of the tests and a change is made before the approved run, then your proto would not be legal. For the most part though, manufacturers do not put up discs for review if they are not going to pass the tests.

Generally I don't collect frisbees. I only buy them to throw them, so I never bid more than I think it's worth to throw. I know the Dr.'s discs are highly collectible and I never bid a collector's price. Maybe some day he'll dye a disc that no one else wants, and I'll get it. I'm not holding my breath though!  ;)

When do you think we'll be able to pick one up? Or, if they'll send you more would you be able to sell them?
Title: DR DYE EBAY
Post by: drdye on June 18, 2004, 01:23:42 PM
He said, they hope to ship out all orders by Aug 1.  He is sending me one more, but it is for personal use, if I had more to sell I would.

And about the PDGA Worlds....I guess there is some clause for the Worlds about having at least 1500 available 30 days prior the event.  Not sure why just for Worlds, I guess to make it fair for everyone, or to level the playing field.  But I dont think personally that 1 disc could really make that much of a difference in an event like this, but it really doesnt matter what I think.  So thats why the MOJO is not allowed for the Worlds.

He is currently working on a driver with the same contour idea, he hasnt had anything that he really likes yet, not consistent enough from run to run.  But I assume as soon as he gets those up and running I will get a couple for testing too.

If anyone wants to try the MOJO, just meet up with me for a round, I'd be happy to let others give it a try.

#3.  I, and I am sure many others, have spent plenty more than $15.50 on disc I throw, even long before I started dyeing discs a couple years ago.

#4.  If you think $15.50 is alot for a disc, especially a DR DYED disc, then you havent done much research, you should check out the disc I sold for $89.08!!!  A portrait of John Lennon.

I was gonna give it to Carla. She really likes her Valks. That was a nice weight for her. Do you have any other Valks in the 160's? I'd be willing to buy outright.

I've just picked up a couple of Vikings. One is nearly crystal clear white, the other is a yellow. Maybe I'll solicit your work soon. Or, we could work out a deal. Here's my offer:

If you have a Valk in the 160's and could do a dye job on it, I'll give you the two Vikings I have. Dye the Vikings and make your $$$.

Doc, I played (and by the way won) a Discraft One Disc Ace Race on saturday here in FL and I noticed some guy spinning a dyed disc and I said to my brother-in-law "That's GOT to be one of Jo Jo's.  So I asked the guy about it and sure enough it was yours.  He got it from Sun King but it started a conversation with about 25 disc golfers about you and how to get ahold of your discs so hopefully that'll get ya a couple more sales     :-)

BTW I have a dyed job I may ask you to do for me.  I'll PM ya about it.

Doc.  I had one ace, hit metal once (hit front of basket flipped in and then bounced out) and had 7 or 8 CTp's.  Two other guys had aces but I had more points.  GREAT prize package too! It was a blast.  My ace actually bounced off a tree and went in.  The basket is surrounded by trees and I hit the one on the right of it about 2' away and it ricocheted in ...but I'll take it :-)

Post by: drdye on November 12, 2004, 06:58:56 AM
Thanks :D

IMO Vikings are one of the most under-rated newier(last 5 yrs or so) champion discs Innova has to offer!!!  They throw exactly how you throw them, you need a hyzer, anyhyzer or straight this disc can do it all.  And talk about a disc that loves to fly low and just seem to keep on going and going and going, this is it!!!

Give it a chance see what it has to offer ;)
Title: DR DYE EBAY
Post by: pat on November 12, 2004, 03:09:58 PM
I agree with the good Dr. The Viking is under rated. I have been throwing one for a couple of months. It has a straighter flight than an Eagle with a little more glide and a predictable hyzer at the end. Mine does not handle a headwind very well though. Maybe something a little heavier would. right, your going to run out of Eagles...   I agree with the viking/eagle thing, very reliable disc...  just have trouble throwing it since I'm not a Viking's fan.  Innova wanted to give Barry the Viking for a signature disc, but he said he was a Packer fan and could never do that... hence the Barry beast.

That package is easily worth $60 at wholesale.  I've noticed that package deals for disc golf equipment rarely ever get their fair worth.  Most players will look at that package of seven or eight items, see two or three they want, and bid accordingly.

I'm currently bidding on an antique drafting table on a low volume governmental auction site.  Things there go cheap because usually the sellers won't deliver.  You have to go pick it up if you win.  The government is dumb like that.

My strategy is to put in an early low bid to see if there are any serious bidders and then wait to the last minute to put in my max bid.  I think everyone does that.

The table is objectively worth $400 to $1,000 but will probably go for $250 or so.

Its there...I assume that the person selling it didnt show a pic of it because it is not legible anymore, or at the very least it doesnt look nice and sharp.  Notice how much the dye has spread since its creation, compared to the pic shown in my gallery.  I am sure the DR DYED on the rim looks bad now considering how the top of the disc looks.  I know that the early champ beasts are some of the worst champ type plastic for dyeing, as far as holding the design is concerned.  A lot of the cloudy champ plastic seems to have the same problem, probably something in the plastic mix.

Maybe, but everytime I pull out on of my dyed discs in my bag I see the DR DYED on the rim, I am sure this probably also happens to other people who throw DR DYED plastic.  Think of it as free advertisement for yours truly.  Also, I have seen some copycat designs out there, a few looked just like a few simple designs I did awhile back.  If you put them side by side, they were almost identical.

Last night during the Olympics when Kelsey and Kira were watching figure skating, I was doing temporal telekinesis to make the non-USA girls fall down.  When they would fall down, we'd yell, "USA! USA! USA!"  When they did not fall down, just to be funny, I'd say dismissively, "Well, I could have done THAT!"

Well, it all depends on what exactly I am dyeing.  But generally speaking, it takes me roughly 45min-1 hour for each disc.  I have been doing this for awhile now, so my methods are pretty much all very efficient.

Its funny, the custom work that I do makes the least amount of profit, on say an hourly schedule.  Thanks though, I do agree I thought that the RR(not the Sidewinder, close) would sell for more than $26, if someone where to come to me and purchase a disc from me and get that dyejob done I would charge at least $30, probably $35($15 for the disc, and $20 for the dyejob).  That was a pretty tough one to do!!!  Confusing at times, had me looking cross-eyed for a day after I was done :D

I do love doing it!!!  I have always felt that I am always breaking new ground when it comes to custom dyed discs.  I have something that no-one else has with my ability to create some pretty intricate designs and dye it onto a disc with minimal bleeds.  That excitement when I wash off a new disc with a bad ass design that tests even my limits is probably what keeps me going!!!  Also, by getting my name out there(I think I have done this pretty well ;D) it opens the door to other new opportunitys for me.  I am sure J-Bird is not going to want to do this forever, he has done this for quite some time now and he has done a great job!!!  Then after he is ready to quit dyeing discs, someone will have to get the job done O0

A couple years down the road I may even be able to quit my job and dye discs for a living, even if J-Bird dyes discs until I am dead!!!  Everyday this seems more of a possibility than a dream.  You would be surprised how many other ways I can turn this disc dyeing thing into money to live on, I am sure you already know.  I do have many new products coming to the market, some sooner than others, that will include hats, t-shirts, polos, who knows maybe bags too.  Plus a few more that I am keeping a secret until I am ready for release, one product that is brand new to the world....No one else has this product to offer, there is nothing like it and I am sure once I DR some up and sell them, the market for this product will BOOM!!!  I cannot say anymore or else I would have to kill you :o

Sidewinder, Roadrunner -- I definately should replace my broken bifocals.

I think Innova is really close to making white plastic available to anyone, maybe another year.  Jaybird only does about half the stuff that leaves his shop and half of the stuff is not that good anyway.  Discraft's relationship with Jay is personal and is likely to be more enduring.  If Innova makes white plastic a generally available item, you can dye as much as you can sell.

I thought that one might not sell because it was a little feminine, but it did good!     It always helps if you do the hot disc when it is hot.

"a little feminine"

The colors, the design, what???  I thought it turned out pretty sweet   You really needed to see the colorer changing effect in person to get the full effect!!!

Kelsey, Diana and Kira all loved it.  They thought it looked like a flower.  A little feminine isn't a bad thing.  Mona Lisa is a little feminine.  So's the Statue of Liberty!   ;D

The saw tooth one kind of combines elements from Early Jo-Jo with elements from Contemporary Dr. Dyed.  I like that.

I dyed about 60 discs for a guy in the week leading up to IOS #3, mostly doing the stuff that I do, but one day the dye was really loose so I did some early Jaybird spin stuff.  I finally happened on a spin concept that I could call my own.  The players who saw those at the tournament thought they were reasonably cool and they were not too hard.  I'm dying some more for him and some for me, so I'll post some of mine in a few days.

BIG QUESTION!

Been watching the discs on ebay and trying to get ideas for my own dyes and such.  One thing i enjoy doing is the portraits and cartoon characters but I am guessing there are some big NO NO's when it comes to this.  For example: You can't sell calvin & hobbes stuff unless it's legit. I think you can get banned from ebay for selling their stuff.  I want to know what other designs are NO NO's.  I have seen some team sports designs, and saw a couple of simpsons designs but where is the line drawn on copywriting images to put on discs to sell.

If the material is copyrighted, don't e-bay it.  United Features Syndicate is pretty aggressive in protecting their artists' copyrights as is Disney.  They have minions whose job is to look for violators.  Every now and then I see a story where they are going after a very small violator under a zero tolerance policy.  The pro sports leagues are more concerned about mass produced commercial use of their logos and don't seem to be aggressively pursuing small stuff.  The copyright protection laws have been changed to make it much easier to sue perps and win.  If you ever see me selling copyrighted dyed stuff, "I don't know who did that.  I got it as a prize at a tournament."   ;) ;)

Another quick question..

after searching for god knows how long online i have a decent rit dye mix but am looking for something  that sets a better solid color.  I have heard of procion dye and a jelly dye for paint on purposes.  Any suggestions?

I don't think procion will bond to plastic, but what do I know?  I thought procion was for cotton.
