Title: 2007 Channahon Classic 9/22-23
Post by: Mukey on August 28, 2007, 07:13:25 AM
Flyer attached. Course was really flooded on Sunday when I went down to Joliet, couldn't even play there was so much water. Good thing there'll be a few weeks to dry out.

Being that this is the 20th year, I'd definetly say Classic. Last Gary Lewis tournament of the year, unless he does a glow tournament this year. (fingers are crossed)

You can always send a check. Info & address for that is on the flyer. As long as you get there early you won't get turned away. Gary's tourneys are mostly day-of registration.

Is Channahon excessively flooded right now?  Either way I'll be there to orcify that mother next Sunday.

No, unless it changed drastically from a few weekends ago. Bug spray needed though!

Me & Mike will be out there at 9:30 am Tuesday for any other slackers that wish to join us. I'll also take course pics.

It was bone-dry last Saturday. Nice new slightly elevated basket for #4 (although there's still a short one set up that also sez #4, I imagine they'll take that down) and new teepads for most of the longs - and maybe all the shorts, now that I think about it. Maybe they've been there awhile, I hadn't been down there all year and the course looks better than ever. Bugs were minimal but spray is still a good idea.

I finally managed to lose my Worlds black Avenger along the right side of #9. After searching for the thing on two previous throws I decided it wasn't worth the effort anymore. Don't play Channahon alone if you can't keep it in the fairway...  :P

Best advice ever. I don't know how much time I've wasted looking for discs there.

Exit 248 off I-55 (Rt 6, Joliet/Morris; you'll see the elegant "Manor Motel" on the left.) Turn left across the overpass, then left at the frontage road. go about half a mile and turn right at McClintock. Park will show up in a mile or so. There are two entrances, I always take the 2nd one.

These are just off the top of my head, someone else may have better details.

It'll show up on Google, but the directions take you through town. Same result though.

Community Park (http://www.amctrl.com/cgi-bin/DiscGolfPage.cgi?id=13)

Just zoom in for street names.  You may need to re-center by double clicking right under the basket.

Does the 'long tee' on #6 actually get played from on Sunday? I managed to find one red brick for it and I'd never played it before. It's an interesting angle though.

If I'm counting correctly, then yea we played hole 6 from the "longs" last year. It's about 5 feet further but about 15 feet right correct?

yup.  that one doesn't have a teepad; the other longs that don't are 9 and 12, if I'm counting correctly. I think all the other ones do. (not all holes have long tees, of course.)

Was great weather and a lot of players at 92! Didn't shoot great but got the 50/50 CTP for $46, so I'm happy  ;D

Good luck to everyone playing today, looks to be more great wehather. Bug spray is required though, especially when trying to wait for someone to putt, keeping still and getting more bites kinda sucks.

pdga says 93 players

played with frank grimes the first round

had to thank frank when my disc went into previously unweeded out areas a couple times

missed lots of putts both rounds

struggled second round until last 4 holes which i birdied to tie mukey for our bag tag challange

all in all a good day

Man today was rough for 50/50's! I had 4 park jobs all within 5 feet and didn't win any of em!

Course was set up nicely and Frank always does a great job. Truly a great guy.

Great, I get the scores entered and doubled checked and the servers are down.  Sheesh!

What a day.  2nd round was almost exacty 3 hours.

As soon as I get my head screwed back right, I'll be back on Sundays.

Congrats to Brett for the 1041 rated round.

Thanks to Frank for all the work.  This course is getting more challenging every year. I think this course works your game more than Mokena.

Channy has gotten alot tougher and is one of the most fun courses in the chicagoland area by far.  It plays even tougher when your putting makes you look like a retard trying to hump a door knob.

Frank has done a tremendous job out at Channahon. This is my 4th year at the event & the changes are drastic. Long & short cement tees. Many new trees that are blocking off easy spike hyzer routes. The elevated basket has changed hole #4 completely. Flowers and plants all over. This is Chicagolands best course right now.
Title: Re: 2007 Channahon Classic 9/22-23
Post by: can't putt on September 24, 2007, 04:05:47 PM
The vast majority of cash paid for those trees, timbers, etc., comes from Frank's wallet.  The vast majority of sweat shed in planting the trees (and flowers, native plants, water lillies, etc.) , building the berms, installing the tees, building the benches, and on and on comes from Frank's brow.

Oh, and tears shed because of vandalism -- those are Frank's too.

Thanks, Damon.  Great weather, great people, great time.  Take care of that back, we missed you out there.

Earlier this week I ran my numbers for the past year and found my second day ratings are, on average, 10 points higher.  So yeah, that theory pretty much blows.

It was nice to take home one of Gary's unique trophies.  It'll make a good addition to my collection.  Oh, wait ...

We also need to thnk the guys that go down to joliet and play the weekday leagues. One of the 50/50 CTPs every week go to Gary Lewis at the end of the season party and that gets handed out to Frank for the course improvements as well. So thanks Joliet disc golfers and Frank too!

Thanks for that info. I have not gotten in 1 50/50 at any of Gary's tournaments since I did not know where the $ was going.
