Beginning Disc Golf...

My girlfriend had a great time at the Madison Ice Bowl. She really wants to start playing a little more. She has a few discs that I have given her, but I think her driver might be a little heavy for her.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a beginning discer? Perhaps both discs and weights. Would 150's help her get the form of throwing with little worry about powering the disc?

Any help is appreciated...on her part and mine.

If I could go back in time, I would have started off with an Aviar and Roc. Both are fairly easy to throw. If she is going to throw a driver, i'd have her throw a lighter disc or some kind of beat disc that is understable.

Well that's good news, I have a few Roc's she can start to throw. I would assume a lighter weight, not the max?

She's throwing a trusty SE Wisconsin Disc Golf Club stamped Aviar right now. We've been working on her putting and she's learning pretty fast.

She's a lefty, so it's hard for me to try and show her the way I throw. I tried with the disc in my left hand...felt completely out of it!

My first driver was a Stingray, I believe. 150. I had to get a little heavier when I got the hang of it. I think then I used Leopard and Eagles. 165 Leopard, 150 Eagle. I tried throwing a heavier Eagle but didn't like what it did.[/font]

I started out with a semi-beat 175 KC PRO Cheetah that I had found.. For me, nothing flew more consistant and I loved it.. Looking back- I could not have chosen a better disc to start out with

i have a 172 that I can part with fairly cheaply....although it might be a 9x, I'll look when I get home...

Hey Pat, I saw some 10x pro Eagles on Ebay last night that were pretty cheap, don't know if they're still out there.

There are some 10x cheetahs on ebay most of the time. Should be able to get one for $15 or less.

My favorite driver is the 10X Cheetah...Parkside had a few left in the "Pro Shop" at the information center. I think there's only one or two left. I just picked up another one the other day...Pat, don't you miss the days you'd stop by the information center and end leaving with a disc or two, or three, or even four for the price of three?!

Mirth: I can look for you if you want...I think they're $14. I can give it to someone who plays leagues, or even drive it down there.

Sure, that'd be cool. You can get it to Dr Dye or Myk... Not terribly picky about weight although low 170's and white would be ideal.
