Just looking for Creative Input.. Do you scrap it and start over or replace and relocate Baskets. Concrete teepads do not move easily. ? Is the property being used at its best ? Also Round Lake 18 in Danger.?.Disc Golf course replaced by State of the Art Ball Golf Driving Range. (another location may be needed). This was overheard in Conversation in summer of 03 and again over the weekend in Libertyville. So it amounts to rumour...no hard facts on this subject has anyone heard of any other info.

Round Lake Area Park District has told Brett and I that they are committed to a permanent 18 hole disc golf course and that there are no plans to move the current course.

Baskets are reusable, concrete tends to not like being relocated....

I have no idea about Libertyville. I have heard no rumors & have attended no board meetings there. I think Adler is a well designed challenging 9 hole course. I'd do nothing to the current layout. I never got a chance to play the old 18 hole course. It would be nice to see 18 in Libetryville again since it gets so much use.

Round Lake has committed to keeping the course for now. They've added a new parking lot. Some members of the park district want to see that land used for soccer fields. It would take millions to do. I was told off the record that it would be near impossible to do and that was many years away from happening.. Round Lake Area Park District did say that there would be a course in Round Lake somewhere if Fairfield got pulled.

I would like to put in a couple of alternate tees & pin placements on the original course at Fairfield but mainly i'm still waiting for the land across the creek to be accessible. That would be sweet!! There's not much you can do about a wide open front part of the course except plant trees.

Redesigning Adler would be great except for the fact that so many other groups/activities use the park as well.
In the fall and spring, several high schools use Adler (the ENTIRE park) for cross-country meets (so there are spectators and helpers too).
The childcare facility (in the shelterhourse) utilizes an increasingly large portion of the park. Also, walkers and cyclists are everpresent.
In order to redesign Adler, one would need to:
-make LibPkDist aware of the need to make the layout more permanent/safer
-rethink some of the alternate tee placements
-get some money budgeted (several baskets need replacing badly, and some tees are cracked as well)
-maybe get LibHighSchool involved (free labor and many HS students play there)
-set up maintenance plan

jon is rep, I defer to him

I like the current layout of Adler, it's a challenging course for both righties and lefties as it calls for a mixture of hyzer/anhyzer shots.

However, during the summer it takes some serious wear and tear. The grass needs to be replanted on the fairways of several holes, once it rains that course becomes pure mud. Hole 9 could not be any further away from the Teepad of hole 1, and that hike gets wearing on hot summer days. The baskets destroy the clean image of the course, and the rocks around the pins need to be replaced.

I think we have space for a few extra holes (their own pins and tee pads) but according to what i've heard, the reason the 18 hole course was scraped was simply because bikers, runnerers, etc. were complaning. I think redesigning is out of the question, however I think renewal would work wonders at Adler

jim

good points, d-train!

hey, how was the first week of leagues?

^runners*

It was poor Jim, only 4 came out so we played singles, winner take all.

Round Lake only had one more than us so I'm assuming the low turnout was due to the cold weather. (even though it turned out to be a warm, sunny day)

Anyways I'm going to have it follow Bevier Leagues from now on.

By 'follow' do you mean approx 1pm-2pm on Sundays?

This weekend now looks pretty crummy (4-7" of snow, then temps dropping near zero AGAIN). Sighhhhhhhh

I won't be able to make it this Sunday Diron. We have a club meeting following best shot.  :(

Lows near zero. Should be nice during the day on Sunday--high in the mid 20s. Right now they're saying that Sunday is going to be our only day of sun for next 7 days or so.

Wimps and whiners abound!

We only had five at the Kensington Viking League.

We've been having 8-12 at junior league every week.  Junior girls are tougher than adult men?  I guess so.

Forgot to post this bit of trivia

As the clock ticks over from 8:01 PM on Wednesday, February 20th, 2002, time (military, European time) will, for sixty seconds only, read in perfect symmetry. To be more precise: 20:02, 20.02, 2002. It is an event which has only happened once before, and is something which will never be repeated. The last occasion that time read in such a symmetrical pattern was long before the days of the digital watch (or the 24-hour clock): 10:01AM, on January 10, 1001. And because the clock only goes up to 23.59, it is something that will never happen again.

Consider Another Location Possibly Riverside Park (Approx 2 Miles South, Follow The River) it has a Par Three Ball Golf Course On it. It has the Room for 9. Could Ball Golf Co-exhist with Disc Golf ? Adler Needs a Break. Let Mother Nature Take Over for a couple of years and then Bring 9 Back.

I used to play ball golf at Riverside when I was younger.. from what I recall that is little space for a 9 hole disc golf course.

If there is enough space, maybe it could happen but I doubt the Libertyville Park District would actually put one up..

Anywhere there is enough room for 9 holes of golf, there's plenty of room for 9 holes of disc golf. Put a basket to the left and to the right of each green and you'd have an 18 basket course.

I'm not sure what problem you have with Adler, Mangler, but I hope you don't pursue getting that course pulled. It's one of the most challenging 9 hole courses around.
