I need only 1 or 2 people to help this Saturday for prep work for Wildwood.
8am-10am  at the most.  Meet at Twin Lakes Park at 8am.
We'll be pouring concrete in buckets/setting baskets.
Can you please help?  THANKS!

Myk

Sorry, I have to work this weekend til about 2pm.

Sounds like I've got it easier than you two.....
:P

THANKS to all those who have committed to help on April 17th and 18th! I'm sure we'll have some fun and create a course that we'll be proud of!

If you haven't confirmed yet, please check your schedule and sign up!  We need you!
:D  :P

Progress......!!!
Paul C, my son Daniel, Chuck, Paul, and myself got over to Twin Lakes Park at 8:05 sharp.  B)  We mixed the 'crete and set the basket anchor-pipe in 5-gallon buckets. It took about an hour and all went well.

Chuck showed us the power auger. Brand new and looks powerful enough to drill to China. It will be a great asset in 2 weeks. Paul will have the tee forms assembled and will instruct us in safe and proper auger usage.

Then we walked the course again and re-spray-painted markings for baskets and tees. We moved the 7th Tee back about 10 feet. The course looks a bit different each time I walk it, primarily I believe, because of the seasonal changes (foliage, snow, etc.). I'm still getting to know the park.

Installation is in just 2 weeks! If you have volunteered to work, THANK YOU - please make sure you still can make it. Please email or call me if you need to change your schedule - or if you want to work an extra day!     ;)  This way we can accurately plan for how many people we need to feed - and for how the workloads will be distributed.

The excitement is building! Illinois will have a new course in less than a month!

What time on Saturday and Sunday should people gather? Its not in the first post....
Don't forget your towel!

8am Saturday, please!!!
If everyone can make it, we can accomplish a LOT on Saturday.

Teepads
WWPD's Paul said he'll fill the tees with sand and chips after we've laid the tee forms. They're built, all we have to do is dig the 4x8', 6-inch deep teepads, level them, place the forms, and secure them with rebar.
The teeposts need to have holes dug to the right of each teepad (8"x8"x2 ft.). The posts then need to be positioned and levelled.

Baskets
The baskets are ready to go. We just need to dig the holes - 18" diameter and about 3 feet deep. Power auger will help.  :-) Excess dirt/soil will need to be moved to the rear of the garage.

Clearing
Hole 5's fairway needs scrub brush cleared, some small trees removed, fairway raked. Other miscellaneous thornbush trimming on holes 3, 4, and 6.

Sign
The big course sign will ned to be installed as well. 2 holes, 8"x8"x2ft., I believe. It will take at least two people to move this sign.

Volunteers:
YOU ARE WONDERFUL!  As of today, I have not received affirmative confirmation from a few people, so please let me know when you'll be there. Please be there at 8 or as close to it as possible.  There is a chance to finish the job in one day if we really sweat.  We'll see. I'm not looking to overwork anyone. But only severe cold and flooding will delay us now. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR HELPING!!!

Questions?

SERG

I just have to confirm with Myk our driving. I talked to Dennis Miller and Dave Light from here at Parkside...both are willing to help out if they have the time. Can someone direct me where I can find directions to the course? I have to send them to Dennis.

Thanks.

Holy moly!  That's great to hear!  I'd love to see ALL my friends there!
Directions:
Wildwood is a few miles SouthWest of Great America, in between Grayslake and Gurnee.
Take either 294, 41, or even Green Bay Road to Route 120 (Belvidere Rd.).
Go WEST on Route 120.
Go past Milwaukee Rd.
Go past Hunt Club Rd.
At Mill Road (stoplight after Hunt Club), turn RIGHT (NORTH).
Go NORTH on Mill Rd. for 3 blocks.
At Twin Lakes Road, turn RIGHT. You're there.
Either parallel park on the right-hand side or drive up and park near the garages at the East end of the park.

Questions? Call me at home (847) 244-6729 until 10pm.

THANKS!  We're looking at possibly 15 people, which would give us an excellent chance of finishing in one day. So, as the weather looks gloomy for Sunday, please grab your friends and help install this beautiful course quickly. That way, we can all play on Sunday!!!

TWIN LAKES DISC GOLF COURSE
is officially installed (pending woodchips on Monday)!!!
WOO-HOO-HOO-WOO!!!

THANKS SO MUCH to
Chuck Martin, Maureen Jekot, Paul Kibitlewski, and Steve Gauthier of the Wildwood Park District for their initiation - and strong support of this project!
Without Chuck Martin, this venture would have been unthinkably more arduous and costly. Chuck constructed each teepost as well as the huge course sign in his garage over the course of a month or so. Chuck is a volunteer coordinator's dream - and a woodworking expert.
Paul kindly assembled each teebox form and had them ready to go for us. Paul was very helpful in the power auger department!!!  He's also filling the teeboxes with sand and woodchips Monday or Tuesday.
Steve showed up today at the best time possible - when the volunteers were few and the few were tired. Steve took hold of the auger and went to town. Maureen stopped by several times, even bringing lunch, and has been very supportive.

My gratitude also goes out to Paul Christensen and Danny Wheeler who truly demonstrated physical ingenuity, severe over-achievement, and samurai-like endurance. Your skin will be peeling for weeks. ;-)

Much thanks also to Mirth, Jon Brakel, Becky Brakel, Maddisen Brakel, Myk Deardorf, Dave Light, Sergio Correa, Jason Cohen, Brett (and 2 friends), Shawn Fallon, Timmy Davis, Brett Comincioli, and Eddy even took a few swings with the axe.  YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME.

If you liked the food or drink, Mike Walsh and I happily donated it.

Twin Lakes DGC will be well-used and help keep kids healthy, families closer, and much more. Your volunteer efforts are significant in my eyes. If one kid learns something through disc golf, we have made a difference. If one crime is thwarted because there are disc golfers populating the park, we've done a service to the community.

THANKS - now get out and THROW!!!

THERE WILL BE AN OFFICIAL GRAND-OPENING ON SATURDAY, MAY 1ST AT 12NOON.  We'll be having BagTag rounds, guided rounds for local newbies, game explanations, disc for use and/or sale, tips and tricks, and much more information.  Please stop by and take Jim's BagTag (#11).  There will be some grillin' goin on as well as refreshments. If we're lucky, Chuck will play as well!  More info to come....

BTW....

Woo-Hoo!!!!!!

Tee signs are sweet...lots of detail put into a 6x6 post, very impressive.  Great job to all involved in getting this course in the ground.  I'm looking forward to playing at the grand opening, hopefully it will not be as windy as today.
Let us hope that the whores of evil no longer loiter on the doorsteps of your path beckoning you into the brothel of despair, and that here and after may present them with the most rigid manistfestation of a firm and manly will.

D

looking forward to the opening myself..

was alot of fun playing the completed course today!
