I am saddened that claiming a donation from the Wildwood Park District is the #1 priority when only 9 club members out of 31 showed up to work (but so many showed up to play afterward).
Also, looks like I will be the only club representative there to help at the Grand Opening.  That's just lovely.

Brett - I think the most important topic at the meeting is the bylaws, everything else really is secondary.

Jim - I mentioned the possibility of a contribution to Brett, I think he included that more of a question than a statement.
Also, you need to chill out dude. What did you expect, given the history of club members volunteering at work days? A full 50% of the volunteers on Saturday were club members. On Sunday, sure lots of people came after league but thats what you were expecting. Given how little work was left it would have been wiser to give yourselves a break Sunday morning & start working around 1 or 2.
Don't forget your towel!

Re: The grand opening, Jay says he's going to be there and I don't recall Brett saying one way or another but I'm not going to speak for him.
I was intending on being at the grand opening all day, its on my calendar at home, but Beth was secretly planning something else. How was I supposed to know?!

I am saddened that the grand opening is scheduled on the same day that I will be running a tournament with Bruce in Michigan. After putting in some work on the course, I would have loved to help represent the club at the grand opening. Unfortunately there are only so many weekends in the year and that was the weekend that Bruce and I had to lock ourselves into last Fall.

The only reason it's # one is because I copied & pasted it from last month. No need to do the extra work. That is why I don't get burnt out. I make things easy & don't do the same jobs every month. Mirth had told me there would be a contribution to the club. It would be nice to shave the info with club members that day. Jim, if you'd like to run the club meetings & make the agendas, that is cool with me. I had a fun meeting by myself last month.

Again, go back, 9 club members was a big improvement from the past. You should be happy about that.

Did you ever ask anyone if they could make that date for the opening of the course before announcing it?

This is what I mean when I talk about the Club's VISION.
What's the vision? Service before playing.  Helping at times when it is NOT convenient. Going beyond the average casual club.
Do you have any idea how embarrassed I was when 8 guys show up at 2pm and someone asked - right in front of Chuck - "So, are we done yet?"

Chuck Martin worked 18 hours this weekend helping to install the course. WE WERE SUPPOSED TO DO THE MAJORITY OF THE WORK!!!  Instead, he spent his entire weekend doing the work he is paying us to do.  He already spent dozens of hours doing the signs. Oh yeah, BTW, Chuck's position is also a VOLUNTEER position.  Nobody's going to be donating anything for him. His name won't be on the plaque. Ours will.  So here we are, with our hands out.  Gee, you'd think that a few more people could give up one week of leagues to help.  And yes, I did ask. I emailed. I called. I posted. I emailed some more. I put up flyers. All this was done weeks ahead of time. Everyone had plenty of time to reschedule personal priorities.

As for the rest of the stuff:
Brett, who the heck made the agendas for two years before you?
Who waited, sometimes alone, for people to show up at meetings?
Who took the time to help get you hooked on the game by staying after leagues and teaching you the ropes?
Who put in Bevier's alternate tees, mostly by himself? Shall I go on?

As far as just waiting until the afternoon to work, I did not make the schedule. The Wildwood Park District and I together made the schedule.  Since we were using their equipment on their property, a WPD representative had to be there. We were on their schedule.  Since they are paying us, it is customary to abide by the payer's schedule/preferences. Plus, as I said, everything was clearly posted weeks ahead of time.

Of course I have no idea who you are talking about but...

I know I got there at 1:15pm on Sunday after playing league and grabbing lunch on the way. I was there about a half hour or so before I ran into you. I helped with a couple of things here and there but by the time I had run into you I didn't see anything obvious left to do. So I know I asked you that question. I have no idea if Chuck was there or not because I did not think it was a controversial question at all.

Well, we can only hope to improve upon ourselves. I think given our history, us supplying 14/16 workers for Saturday is pretty good. And of those 14, 8 are current or past club members.

I was planning on showing up at the grand opening if that means anything....  Jim, your work is noticed and appreciated...never think that it isn't.  Things will never change, there are more players then workers...it is just the way it is.
Let us hope that the whores of evil no longer loiter on the doorsteps of your path beckoning you into the brothel of despair, and that here and after may present them with the most rigid manistfestation of a firm and manly will.

What the hell you guys

What Jim, you got you have a bad day and want to take it out on everyone else?!?!?!

Thanks for all you have done, but ya know not everone has time to do everything you want!!!  Now I am all pissed off, just because I got home, sat down read some stuff on this forum, and am now all upset!!!  From one page to the next here today, negativity.  Bullshit!!!  Why dont you keep your negativity to yourself!!!

Me personally, I have a 81 disc batch order for the Texas 10, and dont have time to drive 45min south to help set up a course that I will probably never play!!!  If you have so much to say, why dont you take over the club, or start your own.  I know you have done alot for this club, but that doesnt give you the right to come here and talk down to everyone the way you are!!!

Just chill out

Go on and on Jim, apparently you need to tell everyone what you've done to feel better about yourself!!!  Pat yourself on the back buddie.

jim

Didn't mean to sound like a whiney old goat, just an angry old goat.
And I'm not looking for props.

I am wrong to expect the same amount of personal dedication from each of you as I demand from myself. Each of us contributes whatever he/she considers to be sufficient time, effort, and money to promote disc golf. And I appreciate the volunteerism, especially from members who live so far away.

But when we get the chance to put in a new course - and get a generous donation for it - I did expect a little extra effort. Those who helped did a TON of work, but I thought this was a BIG deal.  And I feel like we don't deserve to take a dime.

But I'm blowing up my soapbox and going to bed. Sorry for ruining people's days, but tough poop. This stuff keeps me up at night, and that's not gonna be my bag anymore.

jim

After more than four very productive years, I am stepping away from DISContinuum, effective May 2nd, 2004.  Hopefully, this departure will enable the club to develop and grow with renewed vigor, and allow me to refocus my energies on new priorities.

The many club projects, leagues, tournaments, upgrades, and installations are achievements of which I am very proud. This club has been my baby.  Moreso, many of the friendships forged through DISContinuum are dear to me. The mantle of leadership has taught me so much about relationships, honesty, perserverence, and self-respect.  Although disc golf is just a game, we have made the world a little cleaner, a little more fun, and a little better for future generations.

My heartfelt gratitude goes out to Paul Christensen, the club's co-founder, Chud, Mike Trigg, Scott McLean, Nancy Gantar, the Callahan family, Rick Rothstein,  Mike Barnett, Brian Hoeniger, Cliff Towne, John Houck, Gary Lewis, Chuck Martin, Paul Kuffel, Shawn Fallon, Adrian Gutierrez, Bill Conover, Brett, Mirth, and the multitude of generous people who have supported me more than a guy could hope for.  Without these people, DISContinuum would have folded long ago.  Most of all, I thank my family - Kirsten, Danny, and Patrick - for giving me worlds of love and support and freedom.

I have no doubt that more good things will be done by DISContinuum. The future of disc golf is wide open and I hope this strong club will continue to be a part of it.  You'll still see me on the links; with luck, I'll be able to play more courses more often.  After this Sunday, you can get in touch with me at: klemrock@earthlink.net or anytime.

Has there been any discussion about having club meetings in the evening in the summer? Just looking at June, there are area tournaments every Sunday:

June 6 - Parkside
June 13 - Peoria/Baraboo
June 20 - IL Champs/Sheboygan
June 27 - IO

There are similar scenarii in July & August. Pick a weekday evening, maybe have a tag round at Bevier first.

There are probably also enough members w/ instant msgr capabilities, maybe do it that way, although that might not be 'legal'.
thanks,
