Cell phone use during T or doubles

Here is you answer. I would warn the guy on the cell phone that it is a distraction.


B. Players should take care not to produce any distracting noises or any potential visual distractions for other players who are throwing. Examples of discourteous actions are: shouting, cursing, freestyling, slapping course equipment, throwing out of turn, throwing or kicking golf bags, and advancing on the fairway beyond the away player. Shouting at an appropriate time to warn someone in danger of being struck by a disc is not a violation of courtesy.

F. A player violating a courtesy rule may be warned by any affected player, even if from another group, or by an official, with all players of the group advised of the warning. The player shall be assessed one penalty throw for each subsequent courtesy violation of any type in the same round. Repeated violations of courtesy rules may result in disqualification in accordance with section 804.05.

They should not be banned. They are a courtesy violation when they are.    But I've seen people use their phones discreetly on a back-up hole to tell a loved one that they will be later than they thought. I think that's a reasonable use. They should have it turned off or on silent otherwise. Just so you know, during casual rounds, I often leave my phone on. I try to be on call for work enough so that we never have an on call policy.

i dont think it affected my game   not that my game is that good

i know that T's go way long
my wife is a disc golf widow on T days

i can see the work issue
preganant wife/sick relative
car problems and the such

when i play  i usually leave it in the car
ill check in between rounds

kind of funny   the kids dad  (partners)
told him to get off the phone and then his phone rings
it did slow things up  a little

but i have had someone call me   "what are  you doing  ?"
lets see i told you i was playing in a T  yesterday    duh  

since i play in am   its not that big of an issue
but if im  pro/open   where the fees are more

it could get dicey

I try to remember to switch my phone to silent, or atleast a quiet ringtone. With two little ones (5yo and 18months) I can't not take it with me.

Kevin Walsh was putting for a deuce on Hole 2 at Adler (he was playing cali), he was just at the lip of the hill, a bit past the big oak tree. All of a sudden his own cellphone went off right before he released the putt. Missed the putt and ended up taking a 4

Okay, I don't think they should be banned but it is definetly a distraction to other players if your focused and all of a sudden you hear Beethovens 7th Symphony or whatever. I agree with Jon, being on silent/using it at a proper time is no biggie.
