I had a sad moment this past weekend.  I went down to the new course in Deerfield to check it out, and was playing solid through 3 holes, 3'ing them all.  Then comes the fourth.  If you're not familiar w/ Deerfield, it's fairly straight, maybe 300ft, with the right side WIDE open.  The left side, however, is right next to a Chicago River drainage canal with tons of shubbery and trees on either bank.  I break out my Orc (I throw sidearm), miff my toss, but it ends up being a roller that stops 20ft from the chains.  Not bad I think, but I should do better.  So I break out my baby, my 174g Neon Green CE Valkryie, the disc I've had for 2 years and cut my teeth on.  My toss starts off looking ok...but not for long.  It's starts rising, higher and higher to the left.  I'm thinking, "Please, no, not my Valk!"  It's gone.  All hope isn't lost just yet though.  I head over to the "ravine," in hopes that maybe it didn't get lost in the murky water but in the green on either side.  As I inch my way down the slope, I slip, but catch myself just before falling in the creek.  Of course, there's a good 3 feet of mud rising up on the banks, and as I try to move away from the water, I slip again and fall into the creek.  Doh!  Doesn't matter now, so I spent the next 25 minutes searching the banks from the creek.  I didn't find my Valk, but I did find 2 150class Cheetahs and a Discraft midrange (don't recall the disc).  Anyone else have a heart-wrenching story of losing your favorite disc?  Sorry this is so long, but it was sad, sad day. :(

Not to bring up too bad of memories, but I think Mirth can relate to the league round we played at Bevier...two were lost into the pond:

"I doubt I'll see either again. The firebird was my first loss of the day, skipped off the cement lattice stuff on the ground & went in about 15'.

After that you'd think I learned my lesson... Nope. From tee 23, I let my beloved Tourist 'Superstar' Reaper go a little too early & a little too high. That one's out in the middle of the pond.

All for all, I was 4/6 when it came to water holes today. "
