Heya everyone, another one is hooked!



I have a friend in from out of town who I was able to take out to the course... 1 round and hes a lifer!

And within the next year he should be moving to Evanston! Can we say new club member? But I stray from topic..



Hes going back home and wants to buy some discs since he found out there was a course by his place, so what would everyone recommend as some beginners discs?? And if possible from different makers (who knows what will be available).

If I could go back again, i'd have started with a putter & a roc. I'm now having to go back & learn how to throw midrange & putters for some distance.

Well hes fairly comfortable. Hes a ultimate player, not the greatest thrower, more of a defense guy, but he still knows his way around a frisbee. Forhand, back hand, backhanded-forhand.



When we were playing catch with a putter he was throwing beautifully, as soon as he stepped on the tee though, dont know if it was trying to hard or whatever, but it kinda fell apart.

The issue is not so much whether he is a beginner at disc golf as whether he is a beginner at frisbee throwing.  For a raw beginner I'd recommend that he get only one disc, a stable mid range disc, and learn to throw it every way possible.



MRV or a flippy Roc.

I started with an Eagle, a Cheetah, a Cobra, a Shark, and an Aviar putter, and look where I am today!  No, wait, bad example...   ;)



Well, at any rate, certain discs are easier for beginners to use than others.  

For Ultra Long:   XS, Eagle, Valkyrie

For Long:  XL, Cheetah, Stingray

For Mid:  Roc, Shark, MRV, Stratus



Like Bruce said, if he's not familiar with throwing frisbees, start with a Roc or a Shark or a Stratus, something easier to control.  If he is fairly comfortable throwing frisbees already, a driver, midrange, and putter is the way to go.
