QuoteShawn Fallon did indeed receive a skillshot for taking first last year, if memory serves correctly
That's why I said I wasn't aware of it. I was never in jeopardy of winning it either.  ;)

Last year a skillshot was awarded to the 1st place tag. That was the only award given out that I am aware of.

I apologize that there were no criteria set up before hand. The person that was in charge of bag tags has stepped away from the club. We've already been discussing 2005 bag tags & things will be handled much differently.

Last year (2003) we had club memberships that were $10.00. We sold tags for $10.00 as a fundraiser starting in May.

This year (2004) club memberships are $15.00 which includes a bag tag or you can pay $10.00 for just a bag tag.

This is a fundraiser for the club plus memberships/tags are a big part of the club's income for the year for operating expenses. The officers all agreed paying out $100.00 cash was reasonable. There was open discussion at the meeting. This year we have been playing catch up all year due to an outstanding bill from last September. We also looked at the factor that we have $553.00 minus $100.00 = $443.00. We have club insurance that costs $350.00 in 2005. $443.00 - $350.00 = $93.00. If we paid out any more, we'd be cutting club funds pretty thin.

Personally, my philosophy is that bag tags should be a fundraiser, no awards. For $15.00 i've gotten dozens of tournament quality rounds in. Had I not had a bag tag, those rounds would have meant nothing. For the other $5.00 for my membership, I have paid that off with discounts on merch and the value I get from using the club members only section on the message board.

Since i've been elected to presidency, a goal of mine has been to raise funds and save them. That way when we have a $4,500 in the bank we can say, hey so-so park district, we have $4,500 to purchase 18 Mach2's. You have the land, how about a disc golf course.

I never question your methods. You're in charge of this club for a reason- you run it well. I don't think anyone would argue with that.

I've heard your ideas and know everything you do is in the best interest of the clubs positive growth.

And had this been in the public forum, I would not have questioned it. I was just expecting more, but no matter. I enjoy playing for tags, it's always a good reason for solid competition ;)

Diron,
Thanks for the compliments but I can't take that credit. Everyone involved gets the credit. We have put into place checks & balances. More then ever, we are able to discuss at meetings and get things taken care of without problems.
I think everyone that is involved with the club understands that we do things in the club's best interest. I have nothing to hide & that is why i'm glad we have this discussion board. We try to put as much of the behind the scenes stuff on the message board so the public knows are intentions. The only stuff you don't see is all the negative political battling that goes on behind the scenes.

Quote2. Finances (Balance, refiliing fees, & club stock). Update on non for profit status. Past treasurer not filing taxes in past years.
Non for profit status has not been reached yet. Mirth sent in a $150.00 check & we are still waiting to hear a response.
Received the official acknowledgement today that the IRS has received our application. It was a form letter, and it said that typically responses are heard within 120 days of receipt. So, I wouldn't expect to hear anything until around the Widdershins.

So at this rate what are your plans for raising money?  bag tags for another 20 years and you might have enough at this rate for that course.  Is the club making anything of off the IOS or is this event just a fundraiser for the Brakels and the girls club?  Seems to be a lot of club members helping out to make things run well..  and since you guys are using the club to make these events well attended, what are your intentions?  I remember a while back that Jon was going to make a TD contract for anyone who wanted to use the club for any event... was this done?  where is it?

What club fundraisers are in the future?

also why are the meetings at Mirth's, I can not make it that early during the week..  from the looks of it, the last few meetings have not been well attended.  Why the change?
Let us hope that the whores of evil no longer loiter on the doorsteps of your path beckoning you into the brothel of despair, and that here and after may present them with the most rigid manistfestation of a firm and manly will.

At this point no fundraisers are planned. I'm looking more towards 2005. I could see it taking 3 or 4 years to raise $4,500 but that is a decent plan considering we have about 40 paid members.

Events, leagues, bag tags/memberships bring in a substantial amount. Unfortunately, last years September event ended up costing the club money rather than bringing it in. It's taken us all year to pay that off. Some unexpcted filing fees have also set the club back a few steps. Hopefully all that is behind us and we can start thinking long term for once.

The first 2 stops of the Illinois Open Series are Brakel & Brett events with DISContinuum association for the final event @ Fairfield. If you would like to discuss why all 3 stops are not DISContinuum events, i'd be happy to discuss this via e-mail rather than posting negatively publically. That was the plan from the beginning but plans changed last Winter.

With tournament season & summer in full effect, we decided to host club meetings in June, July, August, & September on week nights. Mirth's house is in a central location from the wide area DISContinuum draws. I've found it to be much more comfortable & a good place to meet. You don't have to worry about the noise level of the stereo. What time is good for you? We'll try to accomodate if reasonable.
Here is the month & # attened this year.

i think we probably have to go with what times are best for mirth since he is nice enough to let us use his house.  i'm sure there is no time that is good for all club members.

I would also encourage members who cannot attend to voice their opinions on the agenda page once the meeting agenda has been posted. I think we, the Discontinuum BoD, are responsive in our representation of the membership at large when we know what that opinion is.

I'd also like to point out that we have not been using any club resources for the IOS. Discontinuum is planning on doing course surveys for as many courses as we can. We were able to do streamwood and Crystal Lake already this year because Brett, Damon and I were willing to do the work on those. I think the next course Brett and I are going to do is Adler. We did have a few members volunteer at the first event and those people were given gifts from the event. No club money or merchandise has been used to run any of the IOS events including the Fairfield Farewell. I think the mention on the Discontinuum web page is in keeping with the disc golf informational nature of the website. We have done similar listings for other tournaments that were not Discontinuum tournaments.

One thing that I forgot to mention above is that we did have a DISContinuum Table set up at IO Series #1. We sold some bag tag/memberships, back pack straps, & Gateway Merchandise. The same is planned for IO Series #2.

I am not bashing any efforts made so far, I am more concerned about the future.  I never agreed with the some of Jim's lack of wanting to make money for the club and now that we can I want to help make some cash so that we can persue getting a championship course to this area.  It would be nice to buy 18 baskets and install them somewhere with the agreement that they are our baskets if ever such course was pulled...  Dreska's baskets belong to the DLGC.

I know that you guys had a booth for discuntinuum there and that is great, but for our officers to not be 100% behind using the club and even just a buck from each player going to the club... I don't understand..  send me the big picture in an e-mail if you want.  SF17713@wi.rr.com is my new e-mail.

As for a time that I can make it for a meeting...  I need to know how long it takes to get from Parkside to Mirths at that time of day?  I am home by 5:30.
Let us hope that the whores of evil no longer loiter on the doorsteps of your path beckoning you into the brothel of despair, and that here and after may present them with the most rigid manistfestation of a firm and manly will.

Myk works at Time Warner by the velodrome, gets off at 6, and hasn't been more than a couple minutes late at the last couple meetings.

I know that pretty much whenever is fine for meeting here, as long as I give the wife a little notice... :)

I don't mind answering here. Not everything I do related to disc golf is going to be a club event. I can almost guarantee that. Even if Brett, Bruce and I were to decide to invite the club to be a part of the entire IOS for 2005 there will still be things that I want to do on my own or with a select group of people. Factors out of our control led us to not include Discontinuum as a part of the first two IOS events for 2004. Since Discontinuum was an integral part of making the Fairfield event happen in the first place, I thought it was fair to run that leg as a club event. We had no idea that the club situation would change so drastically that Brett and I would now both be officers. If we had known what was going to happen, we probably would have done things differently. Discontinuum is benefitting from the first two IOS legs. Since some of the profit from the first two legs is going to the last leg, Discontinuum is benefitting by being associated with a more generous tournament.

I would think anytime of the day you could get from Parkside to Gurnee in an hour and a half. Of course I've never done it so I don't know for sure.

I apoligize for my ignorance... Thanks for all the work and maybe the possibilty of making the club more of a presence at future events.

I wouldn't sweat it Shawn. Members questioning how and why things are the way they are is the only checks and balances we have.

QuoteAllan S. Brett C., Dan M., Jon B., & Myk D. in attendance.

1. Waukegan Park District Info about missing basket & work on course.
WPD will replace stolen basket.
Will add to stones to bridge
Looking into the path from C to 9 & moving it to old path for safety reasons.

2. Finances (Balance, refiliing fees, & club stock). Update on non for profit status. Past treasurer not filing taxes in past years.
SunKing bill was finally paid in full for outstanding invoice from last september. To date total club funds = $553.60. There was a $5.00 & $18.00 fee to change contacts & record the club to remove Jim Klem from all reacords.  Non for profit status has not been reached yet. Mirth sent in a $150.00 check & we are still waiting to hear a response. Since becoming a recognized corporation, past taxes were not filed. Mirth is investigating what we have to do.

3. Website Statistics (Record in June).
Print out was handed around with all the info.

4. Membership & Bag Tag progress
(38 members, 45 bag tags-> New Record for both)

5. DISContinuum Blast.
Flyers are ready to go. Will be handed out @ Crystal Lake.
Info will be added to website ASAP.
We will need 5 baskets to set up temp holes. Brett is bringing his Mach3. Contact Myk is you have a basket.

6. Bag Tag prize discussion.
Prizes were discussed. #1 Tag-> $50.00, #2 Tag-> $30.00, & #3 Tag-> $20.00.

7. Work days @ Fairfield to prepare for Fairfield Fairwell.
7-31, Wood Chips
8-21, Tee Pads

8. Looking ahead to 2005. Bag Tags & Schedule.
Looking at purchasing nice plastic tags with several colors. There was a discussion about keeping the membership $15.00 which included a bag tag. No $10.00 tags next year. There was also talk about not awarding prizes for tags. More talk about the rules about bag tags & why it is hard to determine who has challenged for a tag & how to award the prizes. New method to hand out tags was also discussed. Mentioned was a fee to pay for a lost tag. Brief 2005 schedule discussed as well. Nothing official, just exchange of opinions.

9. Club shirts, Myk.
Myk has all the info & can explain it better than me.

10. Official thank you to Wildwood Park District. Response from Chuck Martin about the job DISContinuum Disc Golf Club did.
Myk, Mirth, & I attended the WPD meeting last night. We gave them the disc most club members signed and a plaque with a nice engraving. They were very pleased with the job that DISContinuum did on the Twin Lakes project.

11. Doubles League Rule change. Final week playoff for payout positions.
This rule will go into effect immediately. If there is a tie for any of the top 3 positions, the playoff will be conducted on the final day of that league. Anyone not present will not be involved in the playoff. We got pretty lucky all 4 players tied for 3rd @ Spring League were present on the 1st week of Summer League. If none of the tied players are present, I will call them & have a skill game over the phone to decided who wins.

12. Other topics?
Disc Golf TV
Old club computer & printer that Jim has. Decided not to use it.
here is why i remember that Tags 1,2,3 are worth a monetary prize.
