I was out there this weekend for family stuff, managed to sneak in a couple rounds.

It's not enough to ever make me move back there, but the elevation changes provided by those courses have no parallel to anything in this area. Longview in Rock Island was a challenging 12-hole a few years back before they pulled it for the water park. Now it's back in as a full 18, and except for about 5 holes at the bottom of the hill (which weren't there before) you'll almost never have a putt or upshot (sometimes not even a drive) on level ground. They're still working on getting concrete or mats installed, but if it's not too muddy this is a really fun (and 'aerobic') course. Those are some BIG hills there.

There was a doubles tournament in Milan yesterday, which I knew was happening but I didn't have a partner anyhow. I went out for a quick casual round this morning and was surprised to see they had a singles thing going on (unsanctioned). I would've played that had I known, but it wasn't busy so I was able to get on anyhow.

Very unfortunately, the course is about to be closed, indefinitely and perhaps permanently. Apartment house construction by the highway, and I understand that they're completely digging up a creek that runs through it and laying down sewer pipe.  A lot of the construction/destruction has already started and two of the woods holes are already trashed; they were going to close the course sooner but the PTB let them hold the two tournaments this weekend as they'd been scheduled a while back.

That's a great course - I'd heard talk in the past about expansion, possibly even a 2nd course out there- but this is not a good development for DG even if it is from a real estate perspective...  <_<

Still haven't played this course in Davenport IA - I hear it's long, and with the wind this weekend it didn't sound particularly attractive.

Geneseo's out in that area too, so even without Milan, you've got 3 good courses all within about 45 min of each other. Definitely worth a road trip sometime.
thanks,

Could I possibly play any worse if I didn't practice putting??

it seems like the construction is almost done in Milan, no official word yet.  We also have 3 courses going in Bettendorf, IA this year (1 is almost finished).  w00t!

Quad City Courses (a basic breakdown):

Camden Park (Milan, IL):  Solid course, great for beginners trying to learn accuracy.  Half the course is wooded (but not heavily) and half is pretty open.  Great course to play at, though, very "pretty".  <Mulch and Sand tee pads>

Longview Park (Rock Island, IL):  Solid course,  great course for practicing for tours.  LOTS of elevation changes, with good differences in hole distance.  <ground tee pads>

Eastern Ave (Davenport, IA):  One of the longest courses you'll play.  Very challenging with distance, but mainly open shots.  Plays well with some water hazards.  <cement tee pads>

Devil's Glen (Bettendorf, IA):  VERY challenging course, no matter what placement the tees are in.  Heavily wooded for a few holes, right along the creek for two great shots....NOT a beginner's course.  Only downfall is that it is 12 holes.  (this will be remedied when they connect this course to another 9 hole with 6 holes along the bikepath) <Fly-By tee pads>

Richmond Hills (Geneseo, IL):  BEAUTIFUL course. One of the premier courses in the area.  Wide variety of shots, but the long tees make this course worth playing.  <concrete pads for short, ground for long>

Folletts (Folletts, IA):  Every hole is deucable, but you have to work for a lot of them.  Great course to go out to and PRACTICE.  <ground tee pads>

Fulton (Fulton, IL):  9 hole course...pretty basic.  Some long, some short, all deucable.  Very open course.  <ground tee pads>

Soon to come:  Hollowview - 9 holes; 6 hole linking Devil's Glen and Hollowview; Prospect Park - 18 holes;  Crow Creek park - 18 holes; Middle Park - 18 holes.
