Average Score at Bevier

Hey guys, Im somewhat of a new player and just wanted to know what some of your averages at Bevier are. Im just trying to determine how much more practice I need. Thanks!

With 6 holes added to the course for last year's Bevier Blast, a plus 4 for two rounds won the equivalent of rec. and a -12 (for two rounds) won the equivalent of intermediate.  So, you would have needed to average, per round, a -6 to win intermediate and a 2 to win rec.

crap. i forgot about the new holes. Last time I was there I just played the normal 9 and finsihed with a -7. I still need much work on my putts and just started throwing sidearm and discovered it's better for me than back.

i would expect to shoot between +5 and +12

There were also three or four temp holes added as well last year.

is -7 good on the nine holes? The only person I've ever played with is my friend who is jsut as a beginner as i am

On the original nine, yes, -7 (assuming all par 3) is a good score.

To whoever can offer advice,

My division is MJ2 (Junior Male 16 & Under) and I am unsure if I should move up to Recreational. My rating is 834 and sometimes I play well enough to place in Rec. For example, at IOS#5, I would of placed 10th in Rec with a 120. In the other IOS's that I played (2 and 4) I beat Junior 19 and under. But other times, like at IOS#3, I took 3rd out of 4 with a 135, ending my round (Holes 14-18) with a 5, 5, 5, 4, and a circle 6. So, I am kind of confused in what to play. I like playing in MJ2, but playing in Rec. would get me more PDGA points that I need. I will accept all the advice I can get from the disc golf community.

Hey Michael,

There's certainly no reason to start playing rec unless you feel your game is ready. Your 2nd round score @ Streamwood was definitely a good one, but at the same time you have a couple age-protected divisions which you are entitled to play in until you're no longer a Junior.

If I were you I'd hang out in Juniors until you can't play in MJ2 any longer then evaluate where your game is. Remember, you theorectically your entire adult life to play in Rec and above but only a couple years where you can play in Juniors.

On the other hand, having real competition to push yourself against can help improve your game as well......

I checked your results from the 4 IOS eventsyou have played. If I were you, i'd continue to work on your skills until next year. You are finishing about mid pack to bottom 1/3. I think you'll be ready for recreational next year if you keep working at it.

Kelsey moved up to men's recreational when she was rated about 800.  Kelsey did not have many opponents at her level then.  She was kind of in a no-man's land [literally!] where she was better than the am women at our tournaments but not quite as good as the rec men.  She has finished in the prizes half the time.  She will probably add 20 or 30 points to her rating with the September update.  It has worked for her.

You should do what works best for you.  If you would rather pay a lower entry fee and play the tournament for fun, the junior division is good for that.  But you can also play for cheap going trophy-only in men's rec. If you would rather compete against more similarly skilled opponents, there are a lot of players competing at your level in recreational.  

And, you don't have to make an irrevocable decision.  Sarah, Jenny and Kira will all move back down to juniors for the Peoria tournament, and then play in women's divisions at the next IOS they go to.  They like playing against players they have not met before.  Emily moved up after winning the Michgan State Championship in junior girls in 2002, and then moved back down when she was not having fun in the intermediate women's division.
