Here you can list your wishes for the series (try to keep them reasonable--like there won't be hot dates for the winner of Advanced, Dan!) and you can post your plan to make some of these wishes come true, if you have any ideas.

Here are my wishes so far for the 2006 IOS (not in any particular order):

1) More cash sponsorship for the pro divisions.
2) Volunteers to take digital pictures at the events (both saturday and sunday).
3) Volunteers to procure (not to pay for) and cook lunch at select events (sponsorship for the $$$ for the food would be nice also).
4) Toilet facilities at Streamwood.
5) Free pavilions at all the courses (right!)
6) A course description, map, listing of OB and special course situations booklet for each course in the IOS series to be distributed to all players.
7) Media coverage.
8) More sponsorship for amateur divisions.

Mix players across divisions. I always play better when grouped with better players. Of course, this may not work for good players who are grouped with the fringe element

I think one of the motivations for moving to a higher divisions is playing with more courteous, knowledgeable, skillful players.  I don't think mixing divisions is a good idea at all (sorry dave).  If you want to play with pro players, then i think you should have to sign up for pro.  It would be very frustrating for more experienced players to have to deal with the 1st time players in Rec.  Also, from a competitive standpoint its always best to play against the people you are competing with.

I do understand your point Dave, and I certainly don't think anybody would mind playing with a knowledgeable player like yourself, but I don't think most players like that format from what I've seen at other events.

and technically it's against PDGA rules, although I've played in tournaments where they mix the first round and I kinda like it. Sheboygan in particular, although that's an 'X-tier' anyhow and they've got more leeway - and at the Pickle it's entertaining to watch a 'pro' blow up on an 'easy' course.  :P

I have to agree with Dan, no mixed divisions, photos of players, and a new trophy (maybe a type of bag tag?).

Also a final nine for Advanced as well as Open.

I like mixing divisions, but we are running PDGA sanctioned tournaments so we are following PDGA rules and the PDGA sanctioning agreement as much as we can bear.  A lot of players don't like playing mixed divisions and they are entitled to expect PDGA rules and procedures at a PDGA event.

I've priced lunch.  Simple lunches are amazingly cheap.  If there were two of me, one would be making lunch for the players and the other would be doing everything else I do.  If there is anyone who would enjoy doing lunch on a modestly for-profit basis, like maybe your wife or mother, or you on the day you are not playing, we should talk about that.

Most real sponsorship in disc golf comes from disc golf owned or operated businesses.  And there is a lot less real sponsorship than TDs lead players to believe.  The amateur entry fees provide most of the "pro added cash" at most B and C-tier tournaments.  There might be sponsorship out there if a volunteer were simply to go business door to business door in the neighborhood of each tournament and talk to the owners and managers.  We would pay that kind of volunteer a modest commission if he were to step up.

One thing I'd like to see is for Advanced players to have a let-it-ride option on their player pack.  We did this at the MDGO series in 2001 and it was a lot of fun.  I have an under used volunteer available to run this.  It is very simple: the advanced player gets a 15 Brass player pack.  He can go buy a disc, put it in his pocket, or put it in the Advanced Bonus Pool.  If he is getting in the Bonus Pool, the volunteer takes his brass and he signs the sheet.  While he is out playing she puts little sticker stars on the leaderboard cards of the players who are in and she calculates a payout to the top 1/2.  If only 8 advanced players get in, for example, there is a bonus of 45, 35, 25, and 15 for the top 4.

There are a couple of other changes we have been talking for 2006 about among the key volunteers: (1) Running Pro and Advanced divisions on Saturday and lower divisions on Sunday.  This would give the top players first look at the new merch and I would not always be apologizing that we are out of whatever because we had 90 intermediates and recs yesterday.   Also, it would solve the problem we always have with conflicts with other nearby split-day events.   Also, I would not have to do the six hour drive home on the night I was exhausted from playing all day.  (2) Phasing out the old brass.  In 2006 we will introduce new coinage.  For all of 2006 we will accept the old, but only give out the new.  At the end of 2006 the old expires.  We are getting to the point where we don't have enough $1 coins so we have to order new.  This is a fair way to bring in as much of the old as is going to come in before closing the books on the old.

I certainly understand why the advanced and higher players wouldn't want to  mix divisions. This is one of the reqsons why I like playing league. I get to mix with better players there. I think a lunch option may work for out of the way locations like Rockford or even Fairfield. Don't add it to the price but advetise and then sell food. Maybe a local vender can be enticed to send a small crew. I like the idea of a safari for advanced. Until I am finished coaching soccer ( next year) I prefer Rec. on Saturday. I liked player packs the first year but now that I have what I want its not a big deal any more.

I'm not sure the TD's would survive, but how about all divisions for a 2 day tournament in Rockford? Sunday would have an earlier start w/o registration in the morning and we could have a larger gallery for a final 9 holes for the top open card.

Jon and I aren't planning on running any more no-play events.  We run tournaments so that we will have good tournaments to play.  Rockford reminded us of that.

The only exception to this is that I would run/help run Pro Worlds if I had the venues and could find the sponsorship.

I only was able to play one event this year and had a great time there. I really don't have any complaints or concerns, but, only playing one event, I don't know if I know enough to have a complaint. Over-all it seemed like the event (Streamwood) was run pretty smooth. Expanding the series would be nice, but, how likely is that considering you did one a month for 7 months?

The lunch idea would be good and I'd be willing to discuss cooking on a day I don't play (I plan on playing a lot more in 2006) I have a little bit of amateur catering experience. When we tailgate for the Iowa State games I'm usually cooking for 40 people or so. I have a pretty good portable generator also that could run roasters and other electric cooking devices. If someone wants to pm me to give me an idea of what they are looking for in a lunch, I'd love to discuss the idea. We would need 2 volunteers though, as I would be playing one day.

At most of our venues we can not sell food. We can make cook and serve food to the players and volunteers but we can't sell it for cash (to sell food for cash requires additional permits and licenses that we don't have to obtain in order to run a tournament).

Bringing in a vendor is a good idea. We would put the responsibility of obtaining the proper permits and licenses (many local vendors would already have them if they sell at the local fair or 4th of July celebrations outside of their restaurant).

If anyone works at, owns or knows of a local restaurant that would like to cater at one or more of the 2006 IOS stops, please have them contact me.
