I am very excited about 2006. The IOS has boomed this year as well as disc golf in this area. There are so many new players in this area it's hard for me to keep up with names. I'm excited about the talent in the Chicago Burbs & Southern part of WI.  The quality of play has increased dramatically. People are starting to take notice & hopefully this will lead to the installation of good courses in the area. 2006 is going to be a very exciting year. Ams have a big oppurtunity to earn points for 2007 Worlds in Milwaukee. If you are an Am player, 2007 Worlds is a must play!!! Terry Miller is going to have that event rocking.

I hope you feel and want to be part of the expansion of disc golf in this area. If you are not a PDGA or DISContinuum Member, I hope you consider to supporting them.

We cannot get much bigger than what we currently have going on with the lower divisions.  90 players on Saturday was awesome.  

I'm especially curious to know if there is anything we can do to attract more advanced amateurs.  Do advanced amateurs want lower entry fees [and less payout]?  More payout [and (a) fewer CTPs or (b) smaller player pack]?  More trees?  More yellow rope?  

One thing that the MDGO did several years ago with the Advanced Amateurs was that they gave them the option to play for a bigger payout by not taking a player pack.  The players who wanted to play for more payout paid their player's pack back to the volunteer running the bonus payout and they signed the list.  When just eight players throw their 15 brass player pack back into the payout, those eight players are playing for an additional 45, 35, 25, and 15 Brass for 1st-4th.  I think we could find a volunteer to run that side game if there was interest.

a more exspansive IOS next year.  There are alot of players, good ones too, that reside near the quad cities.  get them and their courses on baord and that would double attendance in and every division, and you may even see some folks from iowa make the trip to the chicago land courses if they know that they can do atleast do a few legs of the series in their backyard.

As an advanced player I expect to pay about 35 bucks for entry at B/C tier events and hope to see good payouts where I can pick out my discs.  I don't care too much about CTP's or player packs, and would return my player pack to play for more payout.  The only things that I experienced in any tournaments (not necessarily IOS) this year that really turned me off were:
1. very low payout
2. not being able to select my discs for payout
3. long awards ceremonies that made me get home late
4. OB that was not well defined and played differently by different players (Streamwood and Olympia Fields)
5. telling me there were showers when there were not    (Highbridge)

Overall, I think the IOS tourneys were among the best run that I played.  I can't wait for 2006.

Myself being a Junior, it is hard for me to get points in my division. I would like it to be a B Tier.

I know the posts that will follow this one will be like "Just move up and play in Rec. That would get you the points you need." Well I like playing in the division that is made for me and sometimes I can hardly compete against the Rec players. If I were to play in my division and lose, then I wouldn't feel too bad because I lost to people my own age. If I lost in Rec. then I'd feel like I shouldn't be playing in that division because I'd lose to 20+ year olds who are really good and that I'd have no chance at winning.

Anyway, I like the player packages because if i did play in Rec. and shot really bad I know that I would of got a really good disc or whatever out of it. If it was a C tier and I shot bad then I would only get the fact that I shot bad and it would lower my self-confidence. Yeah, I'd still get points, but that wouldn't make me feel any better.

So, whatever way you all decide to go, I'd probably support it.  You guys run a very good tournament and I'll be back later.

i was only able to attend the IOS at crystal lake this year  but i liked everything that was going on, i am also a junior, but i enjoy the more competitve feel of the recreational division, hopefully by next year i will be playing advanced but as a recreational/junior player i would rather play on saturday because a) i have school on monday and you dont miss any early season nfl action
i hope to see more of all of you next year

I believe that the IOS was run very well. I agree with Dan that not being able to choose your own plastic is like cafeteria food! No choices!

I would definately give back my player pack in order to have a larger payout. Guys that I have played with from Wisconsin told me that the reason they do come down to the IOS tournies is because of the larger payouts. Big plus!

My hats off to everyone who took the time to put this all together. I haven't been playing for long, but it does look like the sport is catching on quick.

I think the side bet player's pack is a good idea as long as it is optional and we have a volunteer to run it.

I will be working on streamlining our morning of registration process. Although, it was looking pretty good on Saturday this past weekend. Having a table with the cards on them clearly marked for what division is what helped with registering the 90 players.

The nice thing about the Advanced Bonus Pool is that if you want your player pack, you can keep it.  No one has to get in.  

To me, player packs have always seemed like a bizarre concept.  Suppose you are at the casino in Gary [or Peoria or anywhere else they can park a boat!]  You put $25 on black on the roulette wheel.  The guy gives you ten back and tells you that's your player pack and the other $15 stays on black?    So next time you give him $50 and he says, "Well, for A-tier bets I have to give you $25 back."  

We will publish a bonus pool payout table that will go in increments of 5 Brass.

For the playerpacks only the amateur divisons get them while the pro divisions get the higher payouts but no player pack.

Players packs do seem kinda pointless with the brass cash system.  I like the way players packs are set up at other tournaments, where you get a T-Shirt, or a tournament-stamped disc or something like that.  The IOS players packs make it seem like I'm paying 10 bucks to play in your event, on the condition that I have to spend 15 up-front at your merch table.  I have enough discs that I would rather just have some kind of memento of the event, than get more plastic.  If the current (brass) players pack is going to stay, which I'm assuming it is, I would definitely be interested in forfeiting it for a chance at a higher payout.

I guess the ironic thing is that the higher payouts are in brass, which I just said I dont need more of.  I guess its time to go pro.    More likely, I'll start selling off discs.

i totally disagree with this.  i would MUCH rather get 15 Brass for a player pack that I can buy WHATEVER i want (tourney stamped disc, T-shirt, stupid memento), rather than be forced to take whatever stupid player pack that 90% of tournaments shove down my throat.

they are giving the 15 brass pack cuz its required to give a player pack at a B tier by pdga rules.

I don't understand this. You'd rather someone just give you a tournament stamped disc for your player pack (or a PDGA sticker and a mini as one tournament did this year) instead of being able to pick out your player pack? You can still pick out the tournament stamped disc if you want one. This way you can decide what kind of disc you get!

Also, the PDGA requires a player pack be given out at B tier and higher events. Although we give you $15 in brass, we only take $10 out of the prize pool for that pack. Since Bruce and I aren't really big fans of player packs we wanted to make sure that as many people as possible would be able to get $10 of value from the player pack that we offered. Last year we tried to make it a $10 rebate in cash but the PDGA did not like that and made me stop.

I would like to thank eveyone who has helped in making the IOS series and the entire Discontinuum organization possible.  

This is my first year ever playing in an organized event.  I really enjoyed the way it was organized and the friendly atmosphere is great.  Ever since I have played DG (since late 90's) this is the most fun I have ever had and it's the most I have ever played.  I have become completely addicted; playing two rounds after work about 3 or 4 times a week and then I would play at least one dayon the weekend.  I can't wait for more tournaments to come around.
