i think a good mix of art would be the way to go.  especially if there are seven or more stops, make each one unique, print them on desirable discs and they shoudl go quick.  i know for rockford i want something as 'far out' as possible.

I would highly recommend a Vinyl Banner which will last forever. The best part is that you can use the same banner and just change out the name of the tournament. All you have to do is peel and stick the new tourney name. I believe that a 90"W x 30"H is about $150. I can get the cost of the tourney vinyl replacement names also.

On the Wish List topic, I think it would be cool to have a season long putting contest with a very modest buy-in and a cool trophy at the end of the season.  I have this cool lucite trophy on my window sill that says, "2002 MDGO State Disc Golf Putting Champion Bruce Brakel."  N ow you want one too with your name on it.

This is another thing for which we lack a dedicated volunteer.

It is hard to run a game like this on the day that you are playing.  It eats up your lunch hour and morning practice time, and interferes with your post-tournament emotional recovery time.  If there were three of me, one of the two that were not cooking lunch would be doing this.

i would play in a bring-your-own partner doubles event.  maybe 9 holes each of alternating shot, best shot, worst shot and play your own disc.  many other places where i've played (colorado, new mexico and georgia, et al) have state doubles championships that are very well attended and a whole lot of fun.
have the good fun.

If Jon wants to run the Illinois State Doubles Championship, I'm on board.  Jon and I ran a lot of sanctioned doubles in Michigan in 2001 and 2002.

You get better attendance at a doubles tournament if all of the formats are fun and everyone gets to throw all the time.  Players don't have as much fun playing worst shot, and double alternating shot is more fun that just alternating where you only get to throw half the time.

I think best shot is maximum fun on a big course like Edgebrook where the big arms can team up with the good putters to get a little team synergy going.

Seems like the Blast has been used for experiments the past couple of years. What experiment are you going to try in 2006? After playing St. Charles a couple of weeks ago, I wondered how a putter-only tournament would go over.

probably not too well  :)   it might be a cool idea for a small, non-sanctioned event though.  can u use as many putters as you like?  i use aviars for upshots and rattlers for putting.  some people putt with rocs and don't even own putters.

They have a One Disc Challenge out at West Park in Joliet that sounds suspiciously like this. Un-sanctioned though, but run by the Summer J-town doubles guys (Jesse & Darren, I believe) Not exactly putter-only, but you could definetly use a Roc.

Bruce Brakel

Is that a Discraft One-Disc Challenge in J-town?  Or a one-disc-of-your-choice thing?  The Discraft One-Disc Challenge is kind of cool because everyone gets the same unapproved proto for their entry fee and that's what they throw.  I have a proto-Wasp somewhere with the One Disc stamp on it.

Its cool as long as the one disc isn't a Proto Glide.   :D

sorry Terry, but that disc really sucked  :o

It not Discraft-only, just one disc of your choice.

The ultimate course addition for 2006 in my opinion would be the Sinnissippi Open in Sterling. It would in fact become one of the premier events of the series for the following reasons:

1. The existing TD wants someone to take it over, he only wants to play (he told me so). He has nearly run this event into the ground already, which is a shame as it is one of the longest standing events anywhere.

2. The course is awesome, definitely one of the best in the state with lots of room for extra holes.

3. While the location is a little far for some around here, the event would surely draw 150 players from all over (Rockford, Quad Cities, etc.) expanding the reach of the IOS across the state.

4. There are people in the area that could help tremendously like Greg has in Rockford.

PLEASE CONSIDER IT!

Now that the TD has apparently run this tounament into the ground (as I predicted he would last October), any chance of reviving it in 2007. It would be crushing success and a stellar addition to the IOS
