what is the best bang for the $$$ out there ?

any thoughts

i'm leaning toward 6 mb zen micro player around 200

then if i get sbc yahoo downloads for  5 bucks a month its unlimited downloads but to keep using the tunes you have to maintain subscribtion

whats everyone got and how many tunes do u have ?

I have a 10GB Archos Jukebox I got a couple years ago for taking a techie class. Used to have it hooked up to my car stereo until I got a new car last July.

MP3 collection to date: 6019 tracks, 50GB, 15 days, 14 hours+

I don't own one of these things but just purchased one as a holiday gift for a youngster that does not peruse this board.  I think you have to ask yourself what you plan to do with the thing before you can ask for advice.  If I had one, I would be an archivist.  I would want to put everything I have on it.  I doubt I would purchase anything via iTunes or whatever. I already have plenty of music.  I wouldn't be looking for the tune of the day but for a place to stash thousands of hours of jazz, Dead concerts and other miscellaneous stuff.  I would want the biggest thing they make--60gb.  I cheaped a bit and got my daughter the 30 gb. She is a chip off the old block and listens to a wide range of stuff.  Hopefully the gift will allow her to return many CD's that have disappeared!  <_<

Everything you have would be with you whether at home, at a party, at the golf course or on the road.

If you just want the thing to hold a handful of tunes that would change with your state of mind and are really looking for something small and portable, the Zen that you mentioned or the 2gb Apple thing would work better.

ok, TMI.  Good luck.

it depends on what you plan on using it for.  if you plan on listening to one while jogging then you may want to get one with a flash stick because it has no moving parts, but they wont hold as much music as one with a hard drive.   i would go with an ipod shuffle for 100 if you just using it to work out.

My music mood can change at a moment. Its kinda like having a 100 disc jukebox.

Plus, sometimes I hit random and hear what the server sends to me - the mp3 collection is set up on a server at work where more than just me accesses it.

I've had a few and we sell them where I work.

Smallest:  Ipod Nano
Most durable:  Full size Ipod
Easiest to Use:  Ipod
Best sound quality:  Ipod
Most availabel accessories (over 3500 licensed accessories available):  Ipod
Lowest price:  Pretty much anyone except the Ipod.  They run about 100 (shuffle) to 500 (ipod video)
Pretty much just buy an Ipod.  Apple has over 80% marketshare in the MP3 arena for a reason.  You won't be dissappointed.  Just determine the activity and buy the appropriate one.  Ipods have their detractors (the we don't like things that are popular people, mostly), but are still an excellent purchase.  One warning, the Nano is a little fragile, get a case.

Happy shopping.   :D

not an apple guy

got the cash for xmas to buy one so ill be ont the sales prowl

right now my home pc has about  15 gig of music
some of it is the kids
some holiday and the such

i havent burned all my disc to it just stuff i didnt have and borrowed from people
the key is to borrow, burn and return the the next day

im leaning toward the 6 gig rather than the 10 gig

i am going to try the sbc yahoo music download free for a month and see if it is worth it

its like 5 bucks a month the for unlimited downloads to the mp3
if you stop the service then u loose the songs

its .79 a song vs the .99 a song  (ipod) if u want to buy the song out right

i tend to like to make travel/assorted/themed  cd's  so i might buy a couple
but i wouldnt want to make a habit of it

so i hoping i can find a good price for one

i also might get a cheaper one for the kid
