Ok, I've heard bad things about Scott Stokely's instructional vids, but I don't hear too much about a GOOD instructional video.  I'm looking for something that would teach the basics, like the X-Step, hyzer, anhyzer, wrist flicks, but it doesn't have to get too much into the history of disc golf or those basic rules (although if you know of a video that has excellent info about the stuff I'm looking for it doesn't matter how much other stuff it gets into!)  If it gets into more stuff than that as well, that would be great!

Can anyone recommend any particular videos?

Thanks,
Scott

You are talking to the wrong people if they are saying that Stokely's tapes are bad.  Scott goes into great detail about how to throw all sorts of shots.  He follows up by showing each shot from different angles in slo-mo.  These are must-buy tapes, and will improve your game quite a bit.  The only short fall on these tapes  or any instuctional tape is that you have to watch them over and over.  More specifically, watch them a couple of times, and then go out and practice what you've learned.  Then, go back and watch them again, so you can make more adjustments...etc....etc.  As far as I know, Scott hasn't come out with a putting instructional video yet.  That would be my only dissapointment.  By the way, I think the only other instuctional video is by John Hauke, and that just doesn't cut it compared to Stokely's....not even close!

but actually, which Stokely vid are you talking about Doug?  The review I read said that he didn't do any slo-mo shots, so it definitely sounds like the video you are talking about is not the same as the review I read.  The review I found was on discgolfreview.com under "Scott Stokely Instructional Disc Golf Video #1 VHS"

I'd pick up the Marshall Street dvd's, but those are essentially all really good shots and not so much instructional (aside from maybe slowing it down on my own to see how they threw it, but are there multiple angles?)

I, unfortunately, own both of these videos.  There are no shots, slo mo or otherwise that are useful in teaching you anything.  There are virtually no demonstrations of the techniques he is talking about.  He basically stands in front of the camera and reads his book to you.  They are not good at all.  What works best for me is playing with people better than me (which is just about everyone right now).  The videos are a waste and I am dumber for having watched them.

All that being said....I have both Stokely videos for sale, only watched once, great condition.  $10 and they're yours.   ;D

You're making me think maybe there are two sets of Scott Stokely videos out there, the good one and some bootleg ripoff video.

My former partner-in-golf-course-disc-golf, Tracy Glidden, was 774 rated when I fist knew him.  The next time I saw him play, a few months later, he was a lot better, easily 100 rating points better.  I asked him what happened since all that happened in my life was four or five months of winter.  He said he got these videos of some guy named Scott Stokely and they explained everything.

I might have the Stokely videos kicking around somewhere.

I agree with Bruce.  There must be a bootleg(s) going around, because the videos I have (1 and 2) go into great detail and show slo-mo on just about all the shots that he demonstrates.  I highly recommend the tapes.

I don't think there are two sets.  I got mine from Sun King and it's definitely Stokely.  Yes, there are some shots of him and other people throwing.  I had already read his book and was more dissapointed that it was a regurgitation almost word for word (especially vid 2) of what was in the book I already read.  The video that was there was the same as the still shots in the book.  I really do learn a lot more by playing with people who are good, but everyone learns in different ways.  So if these tapes can be of help to someone else, I really am willing to sell them for $10.

I can't believe Sunking is bootlegging Stokely's Videos! >:D
