are there a lot of juniors that hit this tournament?  i'd like to play junior, but i don't want to go to a huge tourney to play against five other people.  i would think there would be quite a few, but i don't know.

thanks

Last year there were 3 jr <19, 7 jr <16 and 5 jr <13 that played Bowling Green. A good place to check on stuff like this is to go to http://www.pdga.com/schedule/index.php and look up the tournament from last year.

Kelsey and I are going.  Someone [Kelly Watson from Arkansas I think] posted on pdga.com that he did not want to see me wearing funny shorts and a golf hat, so I'm off to the Salvation Army to see what I can find to wear.  I'm thinking if it is not cold I'll wear my Tigger hat.  If I make the Finals, I'll wear my King-of-the-Backyard crown for the Final 9!  There is one guy playing Am Master who has been turning in 980, 990 and 1000 rated rounds.  And I heard Framo and Ratman were coming, so getting in the Final 9 won't be easy.

I noticed a couple of guys registered in intermediate with ratings over 915.
Also, one guy registered as intermediate master.
What's with that?

I saw the same thing but didn't want to be the guy to call it out.

The "Intermediate Master" is traveling with a junior son.  I thought maybe he was playing an unsanctioned shadow division just so he could play the courses and enjoy the event.  The PDGA does not have an intermediate master division anymore.  If we had an  intermediate master division the ratings cap would be 875, and he is way over that.

There are two rules which could allow a 915+ player to play intermediate.  If the Bowling Green Open is part of a local or regional series, a series player could continue to play intermediate even after his rating went up.  Most big events that are also part of a series don't offer lower divisions so that rule does not come up very often.  The other is, if the guys pre-registered as intermediates there is a not very well publicized policy regarding whether they can stay in intermediate if their rating goes up befoer the tournament.  I have not looked to see if that might be working for them nor have i searched for the policy.  Two of the top four intermediate women at USWDGC last year had advanced ratings on the day of the tournament, which is where i learned about that policy.

BLAHBLAHBLAH--- them there guys are just a bunch o' baggers. >:D

This tournament is at the start of the season. I think Mitch and Drathe had good eyes...they found a few baggers. Compare those guys to Jason who is still under 915 (probably not for long) and is playing advanced.

Season never ends in Bowling Green.  We were playing in sweatshirts and caps in January there.  Then it warmed up and we got rid of the hats.  But it does not look like it is part of a series.

Either might have pre-reged before his rating came out.  One has a new rating starting in Feb '06 and the other a new rating starting Dec '05.  I'll go hunt down the policy...

The policy only gives you a two week extension on your old rating if you pre-registered before the new ratings came out.  Someone might be able to work that at an IOS.  But we do NOT have a series rule to allow bagging.  You have to move to California for that kind of wussiness.

Of the three baggers, the two who signed up in intermediate had their first ever rating in February based on one tournament each from last year.  Never had a lower rating.  The other guy, the intermediate master bagger, got a 919 rating in December.

I feel like one of the villagers in a Monty Python movie, "She's a witch! Burn her."  :D

That being said, I'm not playing, so what do I care?  Burn!!! Burn!!!

Bruce Brakel

The intermediate master is not bagging anymore than I'm bagging in the Broken Down Old Lawyers division.  There's no such division as intermediate master.  He fantasizing, not bagging.   ;D  But I'm all for burning the witches, the ones that float anyway.  If they sink and drown there's not much point.

I just signed up for Bowling Green and am excited to go play there.  Do we have to drive from course to course or are they all together and in walking distance?

The TD is aware of the intermediate and intermediate master situation.  Whatever he decides you have to understand one thing:  at the end of this event he is sending the PDGA $5 for every player who played there and he will probably generate ten to twenty new memberships.  When you are sending the PDGA two grand for a single tournament, you can pretty much do whatever you want.

Its starting to look fairly likely that I'll finish DFL in Advanced.  I never have time to play lately.  I'll have fun anyways.
