Barry is the best.  I'm not saying anything against him. Barry is the best because he keeps collecting the biggest check at the end of the tournament.  He's dominating the way Climo did when he was younger.

I'm just saying that we have no idea whether 1080 this year means the same thing it meant a year ago or three years ago.  Z-Boaz had six 1050+ rated rounds this year versus one a year ago, on the same number of open pro rounds.  The Memorial had twice as many 1050 rounds this year over last year as a percentage of open pro rounds.  I'm getting 950 ratings for scores that were rated 910 or 920 last year.  The ratings system is kicking out higher numbers for the same performance.  Vienna Park played easier this year because there was no snow, very little ice, very few puddles and no mud.  And it kicked out ratings for everyone that were 30-40 points higher than last year.

So it is the string of 1s that show how good Barry is.  Those four digit numbers aren't telling us anything.

they still mean something, u just have to look at them relative to the other players ratings.

its like in baseball, 40 hr doesn't mean what it did when i was a little kid.

okay bruce, i saw u had posted elsewhere that your 920 rounds had been rated 950 and 970.

that is ridiculous.  30-50 points??   shouldn't the top end pros atleast be over 1040 now then?  I'll agree that after the calculation change, they appear to be maybe 10 points higher.  So maybe teh 900-910 players are going to end up with advanced ratings now.  oh well!!  more for me i guess   :D

until Chuck re-corrects his calculation like i'm sure he will whether he tells us or not, Bruce is just going to have to live with the fact that his rounds at the Homie werent' THAT bad!!   :P

so, if bruce is correct all of our ratings our going to sky rocket once we start playing tournaments, and then the recreational division that we all love so much is going to disappear? that would suck :'(

also Bruce,  I don't think that 1% of the disc golf public knows what the word moribund means.

i looked it up and its

Approaching death; about to die.
On the verge of becoming obsolete: moribund customs; a moribund way of life

for those of you wondering at home.

Neal Swanson's disc golf skills are moribund.   O0

Bruce likes to stir the coals and get people talking. It's hard to say how much ratings inflation there has been but it gets more talking saying his 920 rounds are rated 950-970 than to say that his 940 round was rated 950. What I think is interesting in all the ratings debates over the last 4 years or so, that Bruce talks about things that he sees that could be improved, then Chuck claims those problems don't exist and then Chuck fixes them 6 months later and announces a great improvement for the ratings system.  ;)

It is possible that I did not know what moribund meant when I said it.  And it is possible that my perception of my rounds is colored by low self-esteem.  My last eight rounds have averaged 950, six in the database and two unofficial.  That seems high compared to my perception of how I'm playing.

Maybe my poor health and lack of practice are starting to show in my rating!   ;D
