As far as the bag tags & tournaments are concerned, are they in play on every time we play a round with a Discontinuum member? Or just at Discontinuum events? Sorry to sound so un-initiated, but I'm a new member just wondering what usual the procedure is . Thanks!

mirth

casual rounds it is encouraged but not manditory. at tournaments it is manditory on card. cross card challenges are okay but on card challenges must be resolved first.

last year we did it where everybody tossed their tag into a box & they were redistributed based on low score of the day. by the end of the year it got to be too much to handle.

We would be glad to have a bag tag volunteer to handle the tags at events!

I don't mind volunteering for that. Plus then I'll get to meet everyone. Best round of the day sounds like the best idea. But what about the days where the Pros are playing different tees from the AMs? Should we separate by division if differing tees are used?

Of course, I'm playing AM2 right now, so I'd only be volunteering for the days that I'm playing. But I am planning on lending a hand on those IOS days where I'm not playing & am not driving my disc-addicted butt all over the midwest, so I'd be happy to oversee it on those days also.

mirth

my big reason for not wanting to do the mega challenge: people leave & don't pick up their tag.

So Mirth, should we try to do the mega or just keep mandatory card challenges? I'm all for the mega but it sounds like it was a bit of a hassle last year.

If we have a volunteer who is distributing them, we have fewer leaving. Also, if we have a regular volunteer then that person can hold onto them and try to get them back into hands in the next week or so. I like the all tournament challenges, but it is volunteer dependent.

This is the ISO procedure for properly running the mega-challenge at events where a volunteer is running it:

1. Arrive early, five minutes before the time registration is scheduled to begin.
2. Beg a pad of paper and a pencil off the TD.
3. Hang out by merch or somewhere "after" or "before" registration in the flow of the process, but not at the registration table itself.
4. From time to time say, "Bag tags!"
5. You need to write down the names and tag numbers of the people dropping off tags.
6. You need to collect a tag from everyone getting in.  No one gets in on their promise to get you their tag later.

7. Five or ten minutes before registration closes go warm up.  You'll have almost a half hour to warm up.

8. When we are bringing them in for the players meeting do a "Last call for bag tags."

9. At the end of the day you need to get the total scores of everyone who got in.  They are expecting this to be on total score, not hot round, so let's just go with their expectation.

10.  Write down everyone's new tag number next to their name, resolving ties in favor of lowest previous tag number getting lowest new tag number.  Like if there is a two-way tie at fifth and those two tags are 24 and 28, the guy who came in with the lower number leaves with 24.  That's why you wrote down their original number.

11. Make reasonable efforts to redistribute the tags before and during the awards.

12. Leave your list and abandonned tags with Mirth or his designee.

If someone volunteers to do this, and they follow through and do a good job, unexpected good things will result from it.

Maybe we can use the message board as a signup sheet for the 14 different days of IOS.  I would be willing to help with tags once or twice. I am sure others would be willing to do the same. If Drathe wants to run tags maybe he can be the one to call volunteers beforehand to make sure they will be there, solicit names for the signup sheet, and recruit replacements if there is a screwup. I like the idea of tags at IOS but understand why the TD's have enough on their hands.

One thing that i'm not going to do is track down people who leave their tags. It was a major pain in the arse last year & I still have a few tags that never got back to their owners.

I don't doubt that.  If somebody steps forward to take this on that should be one of the major tasks.

Dan Michler

From what I've seen, at the end of tournaments, nobody cares about what tag they get whether they played well or not (especially if they did not).

I'm all for taking charge of this & running with it. As we all like to get on the road ASAP after a tourney, especially after a not-so-great one, I'll try to make sure I get all the tags distributed as soon as all the scores are posted. Seeing as it will just be club members we >should< be able to get them out before the awards ceremony, but we'll see how smoothly it goes at the WI Tour Warmup.

All went as good as expected. With a bit of help I've got some faces in memory, and having only 15 club members certainly helped. Everyone got their tag BEFORE awards, so as to insure anyone wanting to leave that they could without anyone having to track people down to return tags.

It was great to see the flyers out there. I could direct anyone with any questions to check out the flyers and the IOS series. Hopefully this can generate more attendance, memberships, tournaments, baskets in the ground in 18(+?) hole groupings, etc.

Nice job on the tags at Janesville! It was great to meet you and less great to exchange 16 for 63.  :'(
