Byron Big D Doubles is back, baby!   :icon_cheers:  And better.

We'll play the 13,800 foot par 72 course that we played last time, maybe with one or two modifications.  The clubhouse will be serving hot food and cold beverages.  I.d. required for adult beverages.

This year we'll have gas powered carts that run fine in cold weather.  We'll start a little earlier and have plenty of time for 18 and a Final 9.  This course is like Edgebrook except waaaaay cooler.  Ask Brett or Dan.  Tracy and I are working on getting Chainstars in for the tournament.

Pencil this in for the first Saturday in November.

Any more info on that one? I don't know anything about it from last time. :(

Byron is in the north-east corner of the triangle made by Lansing, Flint and Ann Arbor, about 40 miles due north of Ann Arbor.  This is a great tournament for a big arm to pair up with a guy who has skills.  Divide 13,800 by 18 and you get a course where the average hole is a 765 foot par four.  The course is par 72 for 18 holes.  My best singles round there is an 80.  Tony Kroes and I managed to par it playing best shot.  This course also has elevation, doglegs, risk/reward water hazards, and a fully stocked bar.  The elevation, water hazards and o.b. greens make the course not as roller friendly as some golf courses, so it takes a better mix of skills than roller, roller, roller to score well here.  The water is all highly avoidable, but the risk/reward situation will tempt you to go for it, more often than not.

Tracy and I have not nailed down entry fees.  I'm thinking they will be like IOS entry fees X 2.

Brett, bring a van load of players.  The trailer has heat.  I can accomodate players through out the house.  You can play the Doubles on Saturday and hit some Michigan courses on the way home Sunday.

Gas carts.  No issues with cold weakened batteries.  No sixsomes either.  We'll have a bubble team.

It's not looking good for me but there might be a slight chance i'm able to make it. B-ball season is starting soon.

I'd definitely be interested, but only if some others were going as that is quite a long trip for a weekend.

Defintely going to head to Michigan for this one.  Taylor I can give you a ride back to Michigan that Friday night if you want, but you'd just have to find your own place to stay.  We can talk about it this weekend at Homie's

Never played the course, but from what I've heard, can't wait!  Partner is already secured and we are ready to tear it up!

OK cool I appreciate it. I'll have to see what comes about between now and then and play it by ear. Who's your partner?

There is a tournament in the Ohio part of Michigan that won't give on their zone of exclusoin.  But its doubles -- no ratings anyway -- so maybe sanctioning does not matter that much.

Bruce, will you be at Homie's on Sunday?   I would like to get my pre-reg to you so I can get one of those free green fees spots.

I was at the Homie on Sunday and put flyers on Michigan cars, both of them!  I was surprised by the absence of Michigan players.
Fall Color Classic was Saturday at Earl Brewer.  We passed out flyers there too.  We also left some flyers with DJ in Lansing and with Marty, who drives the Tioga motorhome and cooks food at tournaments.  And we left flyers in the flyer box at Hudson Mills and Fitzgerald.

I wanted to hit Coldbrook and that schuly course in Battle Creek on the way home but it was too late.

There was a lot of interest in the tournament among the guys hanging out at Hudson Mills, Grand Woods and Earl Brewer.  I ran into Schack and he said he'd call Todd because they had a lot of fun and won at one of those tournaments.  The Barnett dad got on his cell phone and organized a Father-Son division while I was showing DJ my dyed stuff.  So if there are any Father-Son teams out there, you got a division.

Everyone was so nice to Kira, congratulating her on her win in Peoria.  Thank you for noticing and saying something.  She did not play so well at the Homie, but her only opponent was playing up.  Sometimes it is hard to have your A game when you don't have your A opponents.

I just wanted to bump this back to the top.

No one knows more than me how long a drive it is from Chicago to southeast Michigan.  Playing this course on carts will make it worthwhile.  Make this your last road trip of the 2006 season and hit Grandwoods, Fitzgerald, Earl Brewer or Robert Morris on the way home on Sunday.

I still have not heard a yes or no on sanctioning, but its doubles, so sanctioning does not really matter.

I'm really not expecting any Illinois players to make the drive, but the heated trailer and the living room are available.

I've been getting a lot of phone calls, more than for any other tournament I can remember.

I picked up the Discraft stuff today.  I'll be making trophy discs tonight.

I'll be driving to Ann Arbor (about 35 miles south of the course) Friday night, possibly with another disc golfer.  Anybody is welcome to come along to save on gas, etc.  I have room for 2 more.  I will be driving back on Sunday night, and can drop people off anywhere that is a reasonable distance from Ann Arbor or along the way.  PM me if interested.

edit:  I will be going to the tourney on Sat.
