And, the WINNER is........................

The "9-Hole Turkey Bowl"

So, far, 5 players have pre-registered in case anyone is interested in securing a spot in the tourney.

Could anybody that has played all 5 of these tell me which one you think is the toughest?  I've only played Clark Park before, would be nice to go check out some of the other ones and see what they are like, especially if they are tougher than the rest.

thanks Brett.  I drove right by the intersection for Adler on the way up to Bevier without even knowing it last weekend, I'll have to go check it out soon!

Libertyville is one of the toughest and most interesting nine holers I know of.  Palatine is tough if it is windy but otherwise it is pretty easy.  Buffalo Grove is pretty easy to.  So is Clark.  I can't remember the other one.

I think Libertyville is the only one that you gain a lot of advantage by playing before hand. Most of the other courses you might be able to dial in some distances but there aren't many different routes. Libertyville has a few holes that you might play differently if you had the chance to try a few shots before the tourney.

I will tell you the secret to Palatine. Keep it in the fairway. Although the course is wide open, if you throw one down one of the retention pond slopes it will probably cost you at least a stroke. The slopes are STEEP and long. You can throw just a few degress off the fairway and then start burning down the slope and wind up 25 - 50 feet below the pin. Tough shot from down there.

Eric- how is the pre-reg going?  I will more than likely be out there with one other person with me.  I would prefer to pay the day of the tournament, but wanted to see how much room was still available.

Thanks,
Scott

The pre-registering is going okay.  So far, 7 people have pre-registered.  Plenty of spots still open.

They could have done so much better with the palarine course.  When I went to Harper I used to play that course pretty much every day and the land is not that bad.  They have two ponds and none are really used. to get into the ponds you have to shank a drive very bad.  They have potential to make some very sweet holes there.  Good luck with your King of 9s tourney I will hopefully be playing on Barry or Kens card in the players cup at this time.

Word on the street is that one of the playgrounds at Clark is under construction and they've got a few holes "closed".  I haven't seen it myself, but I think the pins for holes 3-5 might be wrapped up in plastic.  Better check it out before Saturday morning!

I heard the same thing from my friend last Friday night.  The work may be done already, but you'd better look into it.

I live kinda nearby... Carol Stream.  I can try to go out there tomorrow night to try to take a look, but it's mighty close to tournament time if I can only get out there as early as Thursday evening.  Anyone live closer that can check Thursday morning?

I went and played Clark Park, Palatine, and Buffalo Grove, last Sunday, in preparation for this pilgrimmage.  Clark Park does have nets around holes 3-5.  I have contacted the Park District, but haven't heard anything yet.

A bomb was dropped on me last night.  I received a phone call from a guy saying that the Palatine Park District took out there baskets yesterday for year's end.  Can someone stop by and make sure.  If so, I do have alternate courses picked out.......and, YES, Leo Leathers happends to be one of the alternate courses.  Plan B is ready, in case.  All of this will be stated at Clark Park before we start.

WE are still meeting at Clark Park for the first course, and will take it from there.

E-roc had mentioned to me one possibilty of playing three holes twice at Clark Park to make up for the ones that are closed near the play ground.  If that could be done with alternate tees it might work well.

I checked out Fink Park last Sunday and it was really wet.  At least we have a close alternative of Danny Cunnif if it is still too wet when I drive by today.

Cheers,
Mark

argh!  Palatine's course didn't look that bad when I played it Sunday!  Sure there was some much, but that was mostly because it has been raining quite a bit recently.  BG looked just fine, and I also played Adler... also looked fine.  I haven't been to Fink.

Frustrating!

Drove by Mundelein and Libertyville last night.  The courses look good.

I just heard from the Elk Grove Park District this morning.  They should be removing the nets from holes 3-5 before tomorrow morning.  I should be receiving confirmation some time today.

I am going to be driving by Buffalo Grove & Palatine after work today.

Mark,  Did you check Fink out last night?  Is it looking good?

I played 5 holes this morning on the way to work, and it is playable.  The fairways are pretty squelchy, but near the baskets isn't too bad.  There are large pudles on Hole 8, but none of them more than a couple of inches deep.  I didn't make it to Danny Cunnif to compare.

stpitner

heh, interesting to note that on palatineparks.org it says that the Palatine course is open April 15th - October 15th.  I guess I was lucky to play it last Sunday, the 12th of November!  So I guess it doesn't surprise me if the baskets are indeed out.
