I kept startling my daughter awake tonight from all the cheering watching Milwaukee just flop over to the Padres.  Thank you Trevor Hoffman for making it a peaceful 9th inning!

Right now i think the cubs are going to be facing the Diamondbacks if they were to continue to hold the best record in the NL.  Game 1 is on October 3rd.  Z is starting.  It's probably going to be Zambrano vs. Webb.  yowza.  At least the Cubs have the advantage of having 2 great starters with Z and Lilly.  D'backs just have Webb.  Advantage: Cubs.  D'Backs took 4 out of the 6 this year, winning 2 of 3 at each stadium.  So it's up to the Cubbies to step it up for this series, and given how many Cub fans are in Arizona, I think they'll have a good chance at "home field advantage" at least throughout this series!

let's hope that the Cubs that showed up for the Reds series are the Cubs that go to Arizona.  I don't want to see the Cubs that played in Florida.  DLee was right there for Florida when they bounced the Cubs in '03, let's hope he can help turn the tables and bounce some other teams out of the way!

going to be an exciting WEDNESDAY!

Most of the Cubs fans are snowbirds ...... so NO home field advantage in AZ.   ;D .... I hope  ::)

considering that the cubs have the highest spring training attendance in the Cactus League perenially (note: Arizona :) ), and then considering that the Cubs were ranked 3rd highest average attendance on the road (Boston #1, Yankees #2), there's almost no question that the Cubs are going to have a HUGE fan support at Arizona.  Tickets aren't available now for game 1 and 2, but they were still available right before the opponent was determined to be the cubs.

Break out the Cubbie blue!

Cool thing happened at my brother's wedding reception on Saturday.  They made a specific request from the DJ, and about 15 minutes later he starts asking everyone, "hey, who stole the ivy?"  Then after a little banter about no ivy, he told us to start imagining Ivy and then to start imagining standing at the corner of Clark and Addison... and then he proceeded to play the Go Cubs Go song (or the "Go Cubs Win" song as Lou Pinella worded it lol).  The reception was rockin' during that song!

Teams have to make tickets available for MLB to sell.  These are likely held off until the opponent is determined (there team can sell the tickets?)  It is something like %10-%20 of the total tickets.  This would be why there were still tickets available prior to the Cubs were announced as the opponent.  MLB forces the home team to hold those tickets.

Not sure why Z was pulled after 6 but it cost us.

wow, and Z only had 85 pitches too.  I wonder if it was a mix of cramping/wanting to make sure he doesn't go too overboard for potential game 4 and 3 days of rest.  Marmol is usually lights out, but he was probably nervous.

Cubs were hitting the ball hard, just right at guys.  That was definitely unfortunate!  However, it does encourage me to think that the Cubs can pull it off Thursday, and if the Wrigley crowd is going to be as insane as I think it will be, that hopefully will pump them up to take a 2 games to 1 lead going into the Zambrano vs. Webb matchup again.

1 for 10 with runners in scoring position

pulling zambrano out after 6 innings

yes lou i know you have a good bullpen and you trust the bullpen (trusting the bullpen will always get you in trouble - ask ozzie ) but you have to WIN the first game on the road as it sets
the tone for the series - now you have to win 3 out of 4

if zambrano gets in trouble in the 7th, thats when you put someone else in (bad decision IMHO)

still lou reminds me of Bush when answering questions about Iraq

from all the white sox fans a big "thanks lou "

From a White Sox fan, I hope the Cubs can turn it around and win this thing and win the World Series.  It is only one game there is plenty of time. It may have not been the best decision, but there is no predicting how things would have turned if Z had been left in the game.

Chicago has had so few championships in all sports, it would be nice if the Cubs could win one.

Dan Michler

Out of 2 games vs. Webb, taking 1 would be good and we can still do that.

I didn't agree with pulling Z, but with Marmol coming in I wasn't really too worried at the time either.  No matter how you look at it, we didnt score any more runs the rest of the game so you can't say it cost us the game.

From another Sox fan--

Lou took a risk and it backfired.  I think it was a reasonable risk.  He tried to win two ballgames last night and lost one.  Zambrano was pitching lights out.  However, Lou needs Z to be fresh on Sunday for what will likely be an elimination game.  Marmol has been tremendous all year and he did not get it done. Reasonable risk, that did not pan out.  If the Cubs had a fourth starter they could trust this would not have happened.  The problem is that he cannot do the same with Lilly tonight.  Lou has to leave Lilly in unless he is in trouble.  This puts game five, if they get there, at risk.  Lilly might be gassed for game five and only have about five innings in him.  Great starting pitching yesterday in all the games.  As well as Welch and Zambrano pitched, Josh Becket was stunning.  He shut down a loaded Angels lineup. Did anybody catch Steve Stone doing color for that game.  He is the gold standard for color commentary. Earlier in the week he was mentioning that you have to be stupid to throw a fastball on the plate to Alphonso Soriano.  Soriano saw breaking balls last night and didn't touch them.  Smart pitching by Welch.
