From another Sox fan--

As well as Welch and Zambrano pitched, Josh Becket was stunning.   Smart pitching by Welch.

Webb was really good too.  ;) You up late last night?

D'oh, I was up late.  I could have sworn his name was Webb.  I was reading the box score without my glasses and saw "Welch".  I guess I better start wearing the glasses when I am putting. :-\  I saw the home run off of Marmol.  I then woke up and another program was on.  I guess WEBB had better command of his pitches than I did of my posts.

tough listening again tonight... who knows if they'll come back, but man does this make me feel like I'm watching the Cubs vs. Marlins in 2003... pesky hitters.

dude, go away.  Stop being one of the many reasons why I don't like a lot of sox fans.  Unless you want the L flag to celebrate your team's 90 losses, it's stupid to mock the cubs this season.

Working Stiff

Soriano, Ramirez, Lee:  Combined 4-for-27.  Ugh!   :P

haha I am not too sure it is entirely accurate to develop reasons why to dislike sox fans.  Hear me out:

First off, I am a Sox fan.  I have never said a bad thing about the Cubs (believe it or not :o).  It is nice to see Chicago well-represented in sports.  So to make a long story short, at work I have had several cub fans come up to me and rub the Sox season in my face (I am using work as an example, though this sort of behavior has happened countless times in every setting this year) .  Remember this is completely unprovoked.  These are the same people that gave the Sox absolutely no credit when they went 11-1 in the playoffs 2 years ago.  Now I always hear Cub fans making comments about how they hate Sox fans.

In the same breath that you shooed airspuds away, you insulted the Sox on a rough season.  Understandbly, he deserved the first part.  But what are you gaining by pointing out an obviously subpar season?  I just do not get that sort of logic.  I can understand that this is a Cubs forum so those comments are out of place here.  I am just saying that I am sick of the fact that no matter what either team does, there is incessant bickering.

Perhaps I am guilty of generalizing Cub fans with this post as well; I apologize if I have.  This season just wore me thin on tolerance.

Anyway, don't expect to hear much more from me on this subject.  I had no intentions of muddying the waters.  Just felt like dropping my .02

I hope the Cubs can get the bats moving at home to keep the season alive.  I wouldn't mind a Bear, Bulls, Cubs year  ;D although it isn't look too promising on the first front (but I swear I won't jump to conclusions!)

Note how I said how I don't like a lot of sox fans... didn't say all.  I have noticed, however, that the majority of Cubs fans will say they don't like Sox fans citing that Sox fans rub it in all the time (bad generalization) if the Cubs play poorly.  Likewise, the majority of Sox fans will say they don't like Cubs fans citing that it's the Cubs fans that rub it in all the time (another bad generalization) if the Sox play poorly.  On both sides there are fans that will not rub it in, and I try to think of myself as one of them - unless provoked.  I didn't say anything after he posted the Choke picture.  I let it go.  But then the next night to have to extend the rubbing it in he has to go and ask where to buy the L flag?  That's too far.  Both are uncalled for, but I understand and allow some levels of razzing.  The reason I mentioned the 90-loss season is that instead of letting the Cubs fans try to enjoy their postseason, I guess there is a desire for some sort of vindication?  Their season was terrible, so they have to bring the rest of us down with them?  I didn't razz a single Sox fan during the '05 playoff run.  Do I wish that the A.J. dropped 3rd strike would have been called differently? sure.  Am I happy they won? no.

I'd much rather see a team be cheered on to the bitter end rather than have to hear the small yet vocal minority rubbing it in your face that the team didn't win.  That's what I'm hoping for tomorrow - a stadium full of fans there to cheer instead of sneer.

[  Do I wish that the A.J. dropped 3rd strike would have been called differently? sure.  Am I happy they won? no.

I see it a different way.  Its even better when the "other" team is in the playoffs because its win/win.  If the Cubs win I am happy.  I hope they do well notwithstanding the difficult 0-2 predicament they are  in.  However, I am not emotionally invested.  If they lose, its no big deal to me.  In 2003 I went to the bathroom just before Moises Alou through his hissy fit thinking that it really looked like the Cubs were going to the World Series.  I came out of the bathroom, having heard the play by play and  the oohs and ahhs of family members thinking "oh my they really are cursed!"   and had a good chuckle. Either way, I was ok.  Same thing this year.  True Sox fans will think I am a turncoat.  The Sox are the only thing that matters to me but its still nice to see any Chicago team do well.  If not, yeah, I am going to chuckle and you should not be surprised.  Two years ago I was invested.  I lived and died with my team.  Fortunately, they won.  You could have enjoyed the ride with no down side but missed the point.

Who is better?  Duh, this year it is certainly the Cubs.  I have a buddy who has a standing bet with a Cubs fan at $5 per game for the season.  If one team is 20 games better somebody wins $100.  Over the past 20 years my buddy has won a lot more money than he has lost.  He gave some money back this year but is still way, WAY, in the black.

Good luck Saturday. If the Cubs win I will smile.  Just don't expect me to give you a high five.

hey as long as we can all unite in the abomination of the Yankees...

uh oh, I sure hope I didn't offend anyone   but honestly does anyone like the Yankees outside of NY?  I mean just because they are proof that 9 star players can still look like fools on the baseball field quite often...

ummm anyway good luck Cub fans !  I hope my words haven't promoted any hostility.

stpitner

hah, right there with ya against the Yankees.  I'd hate to see a Red Sox vs. Cubs world series just because I wouldn't want either team to lose! (although the Cubs would definitely have to edge them out :) )

I'm curious as to where they are going to make some changes.  Cubs need more patient hitters, that's for sure.

I hear ole' Dusty is finally taking a shot at the team... moreless the front office...

I don't know about taking a shot at the team or the front office, I didn't hear that, but I did hear this morning that he was talking about how he still felt scars from the Chicago media.  I can whole-heartedly agree that the Chicago media can be brutal.  All of the reporters are trying to find some kind of unique angle to get them ahead of all the other reporters.  It's going to be very annoying next year as all of the reporters have to ask the question about how everyone on the team feels now that it's 100 years since the last championship.  Who cares?  Just get it done.

Dusty derserved everything he got. He sat there with his kid on his lap for half his interviews. He always made an excuse for his players. It got old watching this guy game after game say the same bullcrap.

What a sweet relief when Lou came in. Early in the year I didn't think this team had a chance to compete with the Central Div. It was fun watching Lou call out players and get fired up. He said it best. I see why this team has lost so many games. It's my job to change the culture.
