Brett, Mirth and I have all been on the board for several years now. Brett said at the meeting that he would like to step down as President at the end of this year but if no one is willing/able to take over he is willing to do one more year. Mirth said that he is in for 2008 but that will probably be his last year on the board. I am fine with staying on the board but can not commit to stepping up to President or Treasurer roles at this time. I am also fine with stepping down if someone wants to get more involved and commit to being on the board.

I think if we had people that wanted to step up their involvement with the club and be on the board we would already know who they are. They would already be attending meetings and volunteering their time to do some of the things that we don't all have time to do.

In my chats with Brett over the last few months I know that Brett feels it is time for him to step down as President but at the same time he doesn't want to see all the hard work he has put in go down the drain. If there is someone truly motivated out there to fill in the gaps in the board please come forward now. I think Tom McManus would be a fine replacement for Brett but that still leaves a hole in the board, and potentially 1 or 2 holes in the board for 2009. With Tom as President we would need to fill the VP slot for sure for 2008 and potentially the Treasurer and Secretary spot for 2009.

All of us who are on the board now want to continue being members once our tenure on the board is over. In order to do that there needs to be a continuation of the club. I think planning for that continuation and asking for help is better than just hoping...I hope!  ;)

Perhaps it would be helpful if the current officers would detail their responsibilities (as they see them), their approximate time commitment, and what resources they could pass on to a replacement.

2008 will, in fact, be my last year as Club Treasurer. It has been a wild ride since being elected to the board in 2003, however it is time to pass the reins onto someone else.

While the Treasurer is an elected position I think it would be beneficial for whomever is interested to have the ability to discuss with me what all is involved with the job. Ideally the new treasurer should live near or have access to a branch where the Club does its banking. I would, of course, remain available as a resource to whomever the new Treasurer would be.

Basic qualifications:
Be 18 or older - this is due to the fact we are a legal entity in Illinois and the USA.
Trustworthy
Good with numbers, especially in a financial sense.

Things I've been involved with in the role of Treasurer over the past 5 years:
Finalizing Club incorporation with the IRS & IL Dept of Revenue
Researching, completing, and submitting 501.c.3 application paperwork with the IRS (we eventually decided our mission was not educational enough to warrant charity status)
Filling out and submitting annual report to the IL Secretary of State
Online preregistration, memberships, and merch sales via the Club store and previously via PayPal payment buttons on the club website
Club merch guy
Maintaining bank accounts and check register
Assemble, complete, file, and submit payment for IRS and state tax returns
Track cash sales for computating sales tax due to Illinois annually
Act as liaison between bag tag supplier and club
Process and submit PDGA memberships taken in person and via the club store

I'm sure there are other duties and tasks I've performed as Treasurer but those are some of the bigger ones.

I will continue on as the Club Webmaster so long as the Board wishes as that is an appointed and nonelected position.
Don't forget your towel!
