Part of it is play calling also. Benson seems to get more yards running between the tackles rather than trying to go outside. Sometimes it's Benson doing it but usually it's the play call. Keep Benson running upfield most of time and I think he'll do better.

Both games Beson has rushed 20+ times we have won. All this talk about Grossman and Griese managing a game is running the ball. If the Bears would committ to running the ball Grossman might still be in there and we might be 4-1 at this point.

The Thomas Jones #'s on the Jets can be thrown out the window. He proved he could move the ball in Chi. He could catch the ball out of the backfield and could avoid inital contact. Both are something Benson has not done yet.

Brett, you are insane my friend.   You have the cause and effect mixed up.  The Bears throwing the ball well and getting ahead causes them to get more rushes in a game.  Getting more rushing plays in a game is not the cause of the Bears winning.  Also, if they are rushing the ball successfully, then they will get more rushing plays and be more likely to win.  Calling running play after running play even when its 3rd and 10 and we are down 7, just for the sake of getting our # of carries up, is not going to help us win.

The offensive line is not the same group it was last year for Jones.  Benson ran better with that line also.  We need to play small ball and force turnovers to win games.  Griese is better at hitting the short to intermediate passes.  I think he has displayed that.

Benson's problem is that he waits for a hole to open. Then it is too late for him to get to it. Football plays are designed to work. So if a play calls for a running back to run between the tackle and the guard then take the ball and run there. Don't wait in the back field to see if it will opens or not. Just run there and run hard. Benson does not do this. Last year Jones did and look how good he was. Until the Bears get a hard running explosive running back again then they will go nowhere.

Speaking of explosive, Devin Hester is absolutely amazing.  Even when he doesn't break another NFL record, he is so much fun to watch.  Did you see Antoine Winfield try to cover him on the fly route?  He looked like someone tied his shoestrings together.

its simple to just say 'run the ball more'.  when you are down 31-17 with 4 minutes left, there isn't alot of choice.

If the one consistent part of the Bears (The defense) can't stop the run it's going to be ugly the rest of the way.

The score at half was 14-14. Peterson runs for 73 yards with 4:06 in the 3rd quarter to make it 21-14. Griese throws INT on the next possesion. Lack of controlling the ball on the ground continues to phook the bears. MN kicks field goal to go up 24-14.  Why isn't the head of Griese rolling yet? 3 games. 6 picks, 2 fumbles.

People are not longing for Grossman back because he threw just as many interceptions in 33 less attempts.

Grossman yds/attempt  5.6
Griese       yds/attempt  7.2

Grossman  52.8 comp%
Griese        61.5 comp%

Grossman  1 TD
Griese        7 TD

Grossman  rating  45.2
Griese        rating  82.0

An 82.0 passer rating for this offense is actually pretty good.  That is why Griese's head is not rolling.

Working Stiff

A friend of mine who is a Packer fan sent this to me this morning...

Chicago police reported that an individual attempted to "egg" Bears Coach Lovie Smith's house last night.

The report stated; An empty egg carton was recovered at the scene. Three eggs went over his house and hit his neighbor's back door, four eggs hit the houses of each of his next-door neighbors, and the remaining eggs were found broken on the ground near the carton from where the individual threw them. Strangely, Lovie's house wasn't actually hit by any of the eggs.

Police officials say they are considering Rex Grossman as the primary suspect.

97 yard drive with 90 seconds left to win the game on the road....1st time we have ever beaten McNabb.

Griese 27/41  for 322 and a score.....most importantly no turnovers.

whatever Eagle was called for holding on the play that would have given the Eagles a first down near the 2 minute warning better be doing everything he can to apologize and make up for it to the team.  That cost them the game!

who ever the bear was that got the roughing the kicker call on them that allowed Philly to keep going and eventually take the lead, better be giving the offense gift baskets for not making him the scapegoat for the game if they didn't score.

The Bears win one important game! Big deal! Before anyone can say they are back in the race they need to prove they can score more than 20 points in a game that really matters. Yes they did beat the Packers and they played fairly well in that game, but that was one game. Just so everyone knows, the Bears receivers have yet to have a 100 yard receiving in a game this year. And we all know how good the running game is. They play Detroit this week and as bad as Detroit is sometimes they can score points. Even when the Eagles scored 52 against Detroit earlier this year the Lions still managed to score 21 points. Detroit averages 23.3 points a game. That is 10th is the NFL. The Bears average19.6 points a game. That is tied for 18th in the NFL. The Bears have only score 20 or more points in three games this year and won two of those games. Guess who the team was they lost to when they scores 27 points. The Lions!!! Remember this is the game that the awesome Bears defense allowed 34 points in the fourth quarter. So let's not get all excited until the Bears can prove they really can win when it counts. Because if they want to have any chance in winning the division they have to win this weekend. And if anyone is wondering, yes I am a Lions fan!!!!  GO LIONS!!!!

OK Detroit fan, at least the Bears have BEEN to a Superbowl. The last time I remember the Lions doing anything decent was when Barry Sanders was still playing. Have fun with your rant, it don't mean a thing until Sunday.

DiscCrazy

That's fine and I am totally fine with the fact that the Lions suck. At least I know they suck. The Bears had one good year, why I can't explain, but it was only one good year. I hope for a good game this weekend. I love to watch the Bears and Lions play when they have good games. I really don't care who wins. I like watching football. If this game is anything like the first game, regardless who wins, I will enjoy it. I wasn't ranting. Just bringing everything into perspective for some delusional Bears fans that think the Bears might go back to the Super Bowl or even the playoffs this year.

It's all good, just jabbing back. You know how us Chicago fans can be.  ;D

The playoffs are the best-case-scenario for them this year. With the D not being as impenetrable as years past, the Bears need to put up points to win, and there have been few times they've done it, like you said.

I think the Bears will be hungry to show the the Detroit loss was a fluke, but then again maybe they'll fold. At least it won't be Grossman at QB this time.
I know if it's decent enough to be outside throwing I'll be doing that vs. watching TV.

DiscCrazy

Correction. Griese was the quarterback last time. It was the first game he started this year for the Bears. He had 286 years 2 TD's and 3 INT's.

Gotta get to this before Damon, but if Griese had 286 years, he'd be one heck of a QB.  :o
