Chicagoland and Illinois Course Map

I have already included St. Louis area and the Quad Cities because of their close proximity to Illinois.  Milwaukee was added primarily because of proximity to Chicago and Am Worlds.  Does it make sense to include Madison as well or does that make it too much non-Illinois?  I don't want to expand too much because the advantage of a local map is in being able to consolidate local information.  This is just too hard to do if we include much beyond Illinois.  Thoughts?

I'm sure Ben & Marie Schwinn will let us know about changes in the Madison area & they always come down for IOS, so I would say include it. Mmost of us have been up to the Dells for vacationing, and Madison is on the way.

although it may seem like another planet entirely (I'm from there), three of the Quad Cities are *in* Illinois. Although the courses you played last month were all in Iowa.

Hey, we all know that if it's south of I-80 it's not really Illinois.  Anyway, I like Iowa, it keeps Illinois from being next to Nebraska (how 'bout a rimshot, Damon).

I agree. It's funny how there's such a small area of sanity in the world. It seems like anyone West of DeKalb, East of the Lakeshore, South of I-80, and North of the Cheddar Curtain calls Pop, Soda; puts Catsup on their hot dog, and can't say the word "wash" correctly!

But seriously, I think that Southern Wisc. is part of the greater Chicagoland area. Even my friends from up there will tell you that. I'd like to see the Wisc. courses on the map. I'm up there enough for one reason or another and I'd love to rattle some chains in the process.

Madison and Southern WI courses have been added.  Sometime in the not to distant future the menu selections will change to reflect non-Illinois metro areas (i.e. St. Louis, Madison, Milwaukee, Davenport)

Is Get Directions to the course entrance or just to the zip code?

It's to the street location nearest the latitude and longitude of the course marker.  Whenever possible, the course marker is located at the first tee so generally the directions will get you into the parking lot.  There are a few examples where the tee is closer to a road outside the park than to a road inside the park.  In these few cases (Brown Deer is one) it gets to a road just outside the park.  Example for Jericho Lake:

All courses on the map are actually located using longitude and latitude.  Would it be useful to display these numbers for GPS navigation?  Or would it just be useless clutter?

you might be ok as is because if you click to get directions, the google map that comes up has the coordinates in the map display for you to copy.

I just wish there was more blue baskets up by me, but that's not something you could control

question: do the red baskets automatically change after a year or do you have to make the change?  I'm trying to remember how long the South Elgin course has been around since that one is still red.  I know it's relatively new...

I enter a "course creation date" and the number of holes in the data base.  From there the color coding is automatic.  The course creation date is often not precise, but hopefully it is at least in the right month.  The date for South Elgin is entered as 7/27/2007, so it will change automatically near the end of this month.
