Halloween Glow 2007
Fairfield Park-> Round Lake, IL
10/31/07
7:30PM

We'll be meeting around 7:30PM for a casual round of glow. The park closes at dusk so play at your own risk. Please leave your illegal smokes and drinks at home. A ranger came thru tonight while Dan & I were playing. He shined his light across the park. We were back near #8 tee. Park across the street in the subdivision.

I have never played a round of Glow before. Other than the glow discs what else would I need to play? What do you use to make the disc glow? I guess as a newbie to disc golf I have never even thrown a glow disc at night before.

glow plastic generally is only best for nights when there is little to no ambient light from the moon. the plastic doesn't hold a charge very well. If you use the lights that Brett linked to, or bobber mini glowsticks, you get the added benefit of being able to use your favorite discs.

Clear or opaque plastic works best for this. Adding a stick to the top of the disc generally lowers the stability of the disc a bit, but its never really bothered me.

Thanks guys. I will have to give it a try. Do you guys have glow disc in stock still? If so, what discs do you recommend for a beginner glow thrower? I don't want to spend a ton of money in case I don't like it.

I think the club has glow rocs & aviars in stock, however myself and the merch will not be out tonight. I have trick or treat duties to attend to.

if you're going to play tonight then I would highly recommend hitting up a walmart or something and buying a couple of those LED's (red is the best) along with some clear duct tape.  Then you'll be able to use what's already in your bag, and just make sure to take off the tape as soon as you are done playing so that it doesn't leave a sticky residue on the disc!

What time is the glow going on in Lombard....?  Anything else going on even farther south?  If not just 2 bucks to play in Lombard?

The way Scott described is by far the best way to play glow golf.  The lights are made by Thill. and are at Wal Mart in the fishing section.  They are extremely easy to see even 400 feet away and do not affect the flight of your disc noticeably.

Lahey joined us for another round of glow tonight.  It was a very nice night.  No Halloween ace this year though.

One of our guys in lombard blew up the chains on #6 (Commons) ...but it fell out
i think the glow sticks make discs a little stabler but not enough to really switch discs on any of the holes

6 would be an awesome ace if I am remembering the holes correctly! I would imagine that discs would be more stable with more weight.

if the glow sticks are catching more air and creating more drag on the disc, then its going to be less stable with more wind resistance as if there is a strong headwind.  Attach a glow stick and put the tape on so there is a big air gap underneath the tape and you will see what I mean.
