A fitting end for a man I have spent 15 years hating.  His last pass was an interception in overtime that lost the game.  Something I can treasure forever.

I don't know about best of all time. What about Joe Montana and Johnny Unitas. I would maybe say he is the best of the new age quarterbacks. Nobody dominated the game like Montana and Unitas did. Records or not I think Favre is third best of all time.

You are insane.  Montana won Super Bowls on a great offensive and defensive team.  I don't put him in my top 5 QB's of alltime.  Favre threw way too many interceptions (most alltime) that cost his team games to be considered up there with those guys.  Favre only had his great seasons when the Packers had a great running game which took the pressure off of him and allowed him to rack up all those 1 yd TD passes that they loved to run in the late 90's.  I'm not saying Favre isn't obviously a Hall of Famer, I'm just saying he isn't a top 5 QB of alltime.

You can't look just at numbers because the rules and the game have changed drastically over the years into a passing league.  But for pure skill as a QB over the course of an entire career, I would rank Dan Marino as the best ever.  He single handedly made the Dolphins a competitive team year in and year out when they rarely had anything else to compliment him, whether it be a defense, a great WR, or a running game.

I would also rank Steve Young, Elway, and Warren Moon definitely above those guys as well.  Once Peyton Manning is done, I think he will be considered the best ever.  Tom Brady is currently the new Joe Montana to me.  We'll see if he puts up any more monster years like last year to be considered the best of alltime.

Now I have to say that you are insane because anybody that put Warren Moon in a group with the other guys is crazy! I can list many quarterback other than the one's you have here that were way better that Moon. Like Terry Bradshaw, Bob Griese, Joe Namath, Bart Starr, Roger Staubach and Fran Tarkenton. If I really though about it I could probably list more.

Regardless of how good the offense and defense is or was. Favre and Montana dominated the game when the played. If you believe in what you are saying, "Montana won Super Bowls on a great offensive and defensive team" and "Favre only had his great seasons when the Packers had a great running game which took the pressure off of him and allowed him to rack up all those 1 yd TD passes that they loved to run in the late 90's". Then every sports analysts and sports reporter is wrong, because there say the opposite of you. They think that these guys are what made those teams so great. They think that if you had any other quarterback then they wouldn't have been half as good. Farve brought the Packers back last year to being a great team. If any other quarterback was on that team they wouldn't have even have made the playoffs! Last year the Packers had a horrible running game and still did very well, all based on the arm and knowledge of Favre.

Yes I agree with you, it takes a good offence and defense to be good but that is not what we are talking about here. Favre was a great quarterback and will go down in history as one of the best quarterbacks of all time no matter what.

SO DEAL WITH IT!!!!!

To be honest with you I am a Lions fan. I cheer for the worst team in the Division. I just think that credit it due where credit it due. Favre was a great quarterback, along with all these other guys. He is a Hall a Famer that ranks very close to the top of the best quarterbacks of all time. That's all I am saying.

http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/35424/top_five_nfl_quarterbacks_of_alltime.html

there is a sports writer who agrees with me.

I agree with you that some of the QB's you listed might be better than Warren Moon, but they are all from well before I was born, so I didn't see them play at all so I left them off my list.  Moon is one of the most underrated QB's of alltime in my opinion.  So it doesn't surprise me that you underrate him as well.

Favre is flat-out NOT the dominant QB of his era.  Favre with a career QB rating of 85.6.  He NEVER had a season with a QB rating of atleast 100.  Steve Young had 6 such seasons and a career rating of 96.  Steve Young won the same number of Super Bowls as Brett Favre and was a better passer throughout his entire career which overlapped with most of Favre's career.  If Steve Young played for the Packers instead of Favre, they would have been a better team.

You are defending Favre as if I just said he sucked.  I believe my post said he is a Hall of Famer, but NOT the greatest of alltime or the 3rd best of alltime as you foolishly claimed.  I don't care if you disagree with the players I picked, but I doubt too many 'experts' would put Favre in the top 3 either.  I think most Packers fans would even agree that Favre made waaaaaay too many mistakes throughout his career to be considered the best of alltime.  Its just ridiculous.  Most fans love him because of his wreckless style, not because he was the best; and mostly because they are ignorant Wisconsinites.

SO DEAL WITH IT

I liked the question that was posed on the radio yesterday: with Brett Favre now retired, who's the best QB in the NFC North?  Your choices are: Tarvaris Jackson, Jon Kitna, Rex Grossman, and Aaron Rodgers.

That's a more interesting debate than trying to find out where Favre was all time - no one is ever going to be able to be happy with the answer another person says because everyone has different criteria and biases.

I am defending that you said he was not one of the best quarterbacks of all-time. I never said anywhere that you said he sucked. Like I said before, I feel that credit is due where credit is due. Farve broke some many records it is ridiculous not to say that he not one of the best. Just how I feel and what I think along with many sports writes. Maybe they are all from Wisconsin. Who knows?

Everyone has there own opinion and I respect yours. See you on the course!!! :headbang:

I'm glad you are backing down from saying he is a Top 3 QB then.

You did build a solid argument with 'thats what all the sports writers say'.

what does this have to do with anything we are talking about? here is a stat for you Favre is 22-10 against Chicago lifetime with 54 TD passes and a QB rating of 90+. So i would say its IN FAVOR OF FAVRE.                GO GREEN BAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Farve is retiring.  He was a great quarterback.  How great?  Good question.
Packer fans have a song called "The Bears Suck" . Currently, that song is scarily true.
Bear fans belittle Packer fans for eating too much cheese, drinking too much beer and having ugly wives. I'm not touching that one.
Two years ago the Bears were really good but got beat by the Packers  Last year the Packers were really good but got beat (twice) by the Bears.
Am I missing anything?

Never said it had anything to do with what you were talking about. It's about what I was talking about. Only stating facts. Whether it's Forest Gregg or Mike Ditka, BEARS STILL OWN GREEN BAY. WHO'S #1 IN MISTAKES, OOPS I MEAN INTERCEPTIONS? GO BEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Alright you long-haired Chicago lovin hippie!
When it comes down to numbers, who had the winning record this year? I don't care about overall stats. Who got into the playoffs this last year?

If you want to talk about Favre, The Packers have had only 1 season in which they were below .500 since he took over the reigns as quaterback 17 years ago. How many seasons have the Bears been over that mark in those years? Also, how many QB's have they had?

Anyways, yes it is a sad time for us Packer fans. An era has come to an end. One where we at least knew that the Pack would always have a chance to win (or sometimes lose) a game when he was on the field. With all the comments above, I think even if we can debate who was the best QB of all time, at least we know this about Favre, he was probably the firecest competitor and fun player in the game, for at least my 20+ years of watching the game. All football fans will miss his play, regardless of what team you pull for week in and week out. More players need to play this game for the plain enjoyment of it (kinda like we do with disc golf), not just for the $ aspect of it. This, in part, is why the Patriots have been able to win so many games, they found a core group of guys that wanted to play to win. Money was not at the forefront of their agenda, winning was.

Must of hit a nerve. Like I said BEARS OWN PACKERS!!!!  No way around it. I know it hurts but healing will only come when the Packers can beat the BEARS more than the BEARS beat the Packers. Dont hold your breath to long though chances are you wont be around long enough to see it.   GO MONSTERS OF THE MIDWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm on the outside looking in on most of the conversations here about sports outside of disc golf, but please be sensible here. In the lifetime of 95% of the participating people here in Discontinuum the Packers have far surpassed the Bears in almost every aspect of the game (except for defense two seasons ago). Let it go and move on. I root for the Lions and have to say this every season, but come on, just let it go. Brett Favre was amazing and right now the Bears are not, plain and simple.
