3 out of the 7 are cross-clubs.  Why not represent a club even if we don't win?  Does that lessen the fun?  We'd be competing just the same.  I also don't want to tell the 4 people that oh hey, you have to sign up for one of the other clubs or else you can't play today.  Perhaps if we don't get the 10 will both clubs allow exemptions and then evenly split non cross-club members.  That way they can still play yet are not required to pay to join another club.

I'd still like to throw out there that a club challenge should be October timeframe or something allowing a club to build a membership for that year instead of expecting a large member base in early march.  By the end of the year we were at 40 members (more than half were DGAC members ONLY).  Since then we had a number of members move away.  We have had only one official club function to this point, and our leagues don't even start up until next month to try to attract new people to the club.

If I remeber, this was started last year as a season opener to the tournament scene. A way for the guys that are regularly out playing the tourneys to get together and play a semi competitve round or 2.

I realize not everybody is super competitive and thats fine.  I would rather it not be semi-competitive though and have everybody really be wanting to win like it mattered atleast a little bit.

I kind of wish we had just a Fox Valley vs. Discontinuum challenge where we each travel to each other's courses every year and compete for a travelling trophy (similar to the Ryder Cup in golf between Europe and the U.S.).  I think over time it would become more competitive.

This way, everybody that comes from etiher club will play for 1 of those 2 clubs and we can have the best competition possible between the 2.  Obviously I think Tom wants the most people to show up as we can get, but what is the difference between Disc Golf Alley bringing half a team or random people showing up last year and playing under the name of a made-up club.  I think the spirit of the tournament is to have clubs competing to win (which to me is the same as 'playing for fun'), not just coming out to play a round of casual golf with half a team which gives you no mathematical chance to win.

And I do think the 3 of you should play for the club you belong to and encourage the other 4 to support either FV or DISC and play for 1 or the other.  I don't think great tournaments that grow year after year would ever be considered 'semi-competitive', but maybe I'm extremely biased on that point.

Obviously I'm not the one making any decisions for this thing, so please so whatever you think is most fun for you.

Dan,

Don't get me wrong, I am all about coming up there to spank some Discontinuum rear, as well as keeping that trophy in our neck of the woods.
I also agree that I do see this club challenge growing to something that down the road, if done right, could turn into a very large ordeal for not just our 2 clubs, but other clubs as well.
However, I also see this as a great tool to get new players to join up for our clubs. A free tourney that is great exposure to what both tourneys (singles) and most leagues (doubles) are really like.

This doesn't have a whole lot with the club challenge, but rather inspired by it, but it would be cool to see some cross-state challenges start to happen.  The best of the clubs from this area (have a qualifier event even if you want), then do a challenge state vs. state.  That would be a cool thing worth some extra effort in prepping and doing some travelling to each states respective area.

That would be cool.

Personally I'd love to see a match-play type tournament, but the format would require multiple days. Just my $0.02.  :)

Maybe Match play could become a part of the Club challenge in the future.  You could score it with 1 pt for each match.  You could have captains for both teams to decide who plays who in the matches.  Still have 1st round singles and 2nd rounds best shot doubles.

To award attendance, for each extra person you have you could make an individual from the other team play against 2 people (not best shot, but still just best score).

Brett, Adrian and I were out working at the course today.  It is going to be wet tomorrow but it is playable. We are setting up a temp basket on hole number four. We expanded the bridge and attempted to move water off the rubber tee pads the best we could. We also set out the three temp tee pads today.

Here is a little something regarding the holes that will be played for those of you familiar with the course: Out of Bounds: On or over main roads. Tennis, basketball courts and parking lots are OB.  Totally surrounded by water is OB.  2M Rule in effect. On holes 1, 5A,  9 and 9C  past the creek is out of bounds. Drop zone in effect on hole 9.  The surrounded by water is for the creek and pond only.

I am with Dan on this, the reason that we created a minimum of 10 players per team is that we are looking for a competitive fun event. This event is also used as a promotional tool for existing disc golf clubs.  One of the reasons to hold it in the spring is to recruit new membership for the upcoming season. Being a free event, I think spending the $10 or $15.00 to join an existing club is money well spent.

There is a team trophy created especially for this event which I hope will stay in Lake County this year. Right now there are a minimum of a dozen CTPs.

See you on the course.

That's a good point. The Joliet guys, for instance, have more than enough talent to compete for the title. I bet they'll want in on this next year. Especially if Mike Holmquist or Jesse Saenz or someone like that organized that group down there.

Tom posted but i'll give a little more information.

Course updates.

The course is wet and muddy in spots. Bring your old shoes, goretex, or seal skins. Changes have been made to keep us dry as possible.

Here is the run down.

Out of Bounds: On or over main roads OB. Tennis, basketball courts and parking lots are OB.  Baseball field OB. Totally surrounded by water is OB (Creeks & Pond). On holes 1, 5A, 5B, 9 and 9C past the creek is out of bounds. Drop zone in effect on Hole 9.

Hole #1 Creek is very high right now. It will come into play tomorrow if it stays at it's current level. Across the creek is OB.

Hole #4 basket will be moved back. There is 3 to 4 inches of water and slush within the putting circle.

Hole 5A tee pad will be moved back. The current tee is under water. One of the new temporary tee pads will be placed on the paved walking path.
Over the creek is OB.

Hole 5B  tee pad was fixed today using scrap pieces. Over the creek is OB.

Hole 5C tee pad was moved back 10 to 15ft  to higher ground. It's a little uneven but very playable.

Hole 5D  Left of the fairway is very muddy. Keep it straight or right and you are ok.

Hole 5E   The fairway and hill is muddy.

Hole 5F  The fairway and hill is muddy. The right side grass is the best place to be.

Holes 6 thru 9 have snow covered fairways. Clean those shoes  :D.

Hole 6A  Will not be played. The tee is under water.

Hole #8A has a new extension to the bridge. The creek is very high and will add many OB strokes.

Hole #8B The creek is very high and some putts will land in the creek.

Hole #9  Over creek is OB. Creek is very high and will add some OB strokes.

Hole #9A The tee pad is placed east of long #9 basket. The basket placement is the same as the shorter temp hole that has been played in the past. It's a longer anhyzer. If you go right you'll be in the rough.

Hole #9B. Par 4. The tee pad is in the southeast corner of the soccer field. The basket will be placed near  the left field fence. Inside the baseball field is OB. Yards are casual.

Hole #9C  Par 4  The tee pad is placed at the top of the hill at the far northeast side of the park. The basket will be placed near the creek.  On & over Yorkhouse Rd is ob. On the parking lot entrance road and parking lot is OB. The creek will come into play on upshots and putts. Over the creek is OB.

So you coming out tomorrow?

CEValkyrie

I don't want to write a book here but there were several factors to doing this.

#1 Tom M. volunteered last year to run this event. It woked so he's doing it again.
#2 This time of year was picked since nothing is going on.
#3 A nonsanctioned event is part of the clubs vision
#4 Singles/Doubles. Good mix.
