I joined these forums with the intentions of joining Discontinuum and really getting involved with some of the local disc golfers. I've seen alot of disrespect towards Adler Park and Adler Park disc golfers, and I've only been browsing these forums for 10minutes or so.

For some reason several of you don't really like Adler or it's disc golfers. I just don't get it..

Keep in mind that alot of what you've read is well over a year old. Opinions can change a lot in a short period of time.

I played in Adler leagues from about 1993-1997 and saw the course shrink from 18 to 9 holes. Which stunk, but that's life sometimes.

At that time, the folks who were running leagues were not always on the up-and-up; I won Novice (1994) and Am (1995) divisions and never recieved a plaque, cash or squat (as promised I would). Players almost never helped me with disc or PDGA or other info. They were happy to take my money though......

Some of these people still play in the area and I've rebuilt some of those relationships. Some of those people are still around and remain jerks.

Combine that with the fact that a best Shot round of 18 holes can take 4 hours when 45 players show up. Adler (and its mosquitos) just isn't worth my time when I can play other nearby courses without hassles.

So, if I have appeared disrespectful toward Adler or some of its former players, it is probably just bitterness creeping through. But like I say, I'm cool with some of those guys now - and I look to the future instead of being pissed at the past.

BTW, welcome to the board!

I have seen some good posts above. I posted my post well over a year ago. I have changed some opinions & but not others.

Adler-] (+) I think it is a very good 9-hole course. It is very challenging & requires a variety of shots. It has a nice mix of long wooded holes & open holes. I would have to say this is one of the best 9 hole courses i've played.

(-) I think the retro baskets give a bad image to the game. This course gets really muddy with little rain. I would rather play another course because this course gets so much use. Waiting on 5'somes/6'somes is not my cup of tea. Especially when those groups are playing faster than me when i'm by myself.

As for the people at Adler. I don't know all the players at Adler. I know i've developed a relationship with several of the league players that come to Bevier & to Round Lake. I really like the guys that I have met. At the time I posted, my opinion was made on the few goof balls that would openly smoke by the table & would throw discs when still putting. I now know the difference between Disc Golfers & Disc Chunkers.

Adler was my home course when my home was Libertyville. I started playing the course in 1978 when it first went in. It was 9 holes and had the "cone" style basket (GADOOONG!!!). Later it was expanded to 18 holes using what is now the standard style chain basket. Later still it was redesigned into a nine hole with much longer holes. That is the current configuration.

I really like Adler and usually get a chance to play it at least once a month. I will always fondly recall the old courses, but the current nine holes is a better course than the 18 hole course ever was. As the PDGA rep for that course, I have wanted to get back and run a tournament there with the parks dept helping me get in temps...but that fight isn't in me right now. Maybe next year?

I like Adler park, its where I got my first hole in one(hole #3).  I dont know most of the people that play there, so cant say I dont like them either.  I know that I have had diffulities playing there in the past, but you have that with every course.  I dont think anyone means to get down on the park or its players, this is just a forum to discuss our opinions, good or bad.  Dont take anything to personaly, its hard to understand exactly what people feel by reading some typed words, that dont have any expression to them.  I know I enjoy playing there, its a fun challenging course, with extra unique baskets.

That's true Mirth, I started looking at the dates of some of the posts I've been reading... lol

It's fine if some of you guys don't like Adler, the more I know about what other people view as wrong with it, the quicker it can be fixed. I just wanted to know why :)
