Assuming that the original poster is still reading, in what sense are the fundraiser discs raising funds for Worlds?  How much money from the sale of each disc is being set aside for what purpose?  As far as I could tell, none of the money raised by the 2006 Am worlds fund raiser discs ever made it to the players.  That money was spent on replacing DGA baskets with Innova baskets, which may or may not have been an actual upgrade.  As far as I could tell from the payouts and amenities, nothing from 2007 Am Worlds fundraiser discs was actually spent on the players.  From what I've heard, 2008 Worlds is running the same plan for ams as 2007 Worlds.  So in what sense are these Worlds fundraiser discs?

Hi Bruce -

All of the profits from the discs go to the tournament.  As far as the distribution of those funds, you would have to contact the tournament directors - Mark Stubbs or Larry LaBond.  Please drop me an email if you would like their email addresses.

Thanks!

Anyone from Illinois playing Worlds should not have expectations that exceed the crappy tournament we got last year, in spite of anything I might have said or wrote earlier.  A disaffected volunteer I was talking to recently, a K'zoo insider, told me that we should go into this with the expectation that we will see the same thing we saw in 2007.  He was pretty pissed.

I would not buy a fund raiser disc for this event because I would have no expectation that the funds raised would be spent on the players.  I'm going to play this tournament and participate in their fundraising efforts by paying four or five grossly inflated entry fees.  That will be enough from me.

Sorry to hear this.  Nonetheless, I am still registered and still looking forward to seeing everybody and still looking forward to a week of flying plastic rather than flying objections.  I think I will also by a Squall.but not necessarily to raise funds.  Its the same reason I buy a lotto ticket when the prize is zillions of dollars.  I want a chance to win 18 baskets.. We really, really, really, need an 18 hole course in Cook County.Of course, if I win, we will have to figure out who to cajole, persuade, beg or fellate to have a place to put the course.

I'm with you there Dave, with the exception of some of the choice words you used in the last line!

I had a great time at am worlds last year.  I thought it both well organized and well run.  I thought I received exceptional value for my tournament dollar.  The real value, of course, is in all the people that attend.

I expect to have a great time this year as well.

Maybe I'm ignorant or naive, but I don't see the objection of raised funds going toward course improvement.  To me this is a high return on investment.

I'm not going to join in on the argument of worlds funding from last year vs. this year or whatever because I am involved with this years worlds...but I will say that in regards to this years worlds, the course improvements are being handled due to the high amount of sponsorships that have taken place. By no means am I speaking for last year in any, way, shape or form, but I do know that about this year.

Just wanting to point out that the funds raised post-sponsorship are not going towards course improvements that I am aware of.

Terry can answer this better than I can but from what I heard and understand the PDGA handles the financials.

Worlds is a special event. If you get a chance go play it.

It's a huge task to host a Worlds. I really don't care where that money is going. From what i've seen at Des Moines, Milwaukee, & Highbridge, all involved have attempted to run the best possible event. The people running them were good people and they were trying to host an quality event. I can only imagine the up front costs and misc expenses. I trust that money raised was used in some sort of way to make those events successful.

I might get a chance to play Kzoo course this weekend. If I do, which one should I choose?

I would probably agree with Bruce, I think other than holes 1 and 2 it has the best overall flow and design usage of the land. Coldbrook is really nice this time of year too but it's a lot busier. Oshtemo would be another choice if you were on the west side of town and is much harder than the other 2.

When you go on that camping trip you should try to wedge in time to play Flip City.  It is the disc golf Field of Dreams.

Yeah, that rhetorical flourish got the best of me. Sorry. I hope nobody was offended. Given the recent news with the Lake County Forest Preserve and the lack of local course it seemed like an accurate description.  R rated thread drift over...
