After this weekend i've updated my list and have played every Chicagoland disc golf course. Kurt, your map rocks. Just take a look at that map around the Chicago area. Though I get irratated with some of the design they do expose many people to the game. The player base is getting larger every year. Dan & I were talking about this Saturday. Have any of you come close to playing all the Chicagoland courses? I'm up to 94 IL courses played.

94? wow.  That's amazing.  I just checked and I'm only at 32 heh.

For those of you who want an easier way to check - you can sign up at dgcoursereview.com and mark what courses you have played.  It's a pretty cool site.

My Profile

If you click on the map view tab it will mark all of the courses that you have marked as playing.  I'm very centralized in Illinois!  I need to get out more :P

I had never seen that feature on that site before (it will also be a feature on my site...someday), so you inspired me to create my own account Scott. Looks like I'm at 65 on there with one now defunct course in the UP that I played and 3 temp courses. Probably forgot one or two as well, so a nice round 70 is about where I am. Oh I forgot St. Louis area, so there's a few more as well haha.

Does anyone else remember the course in Wilmette...maybe Tom McManus would. Bruce and I used to ride our bikes down to Niles every few weeks during the summer and go to church with Dave, a friend of Bruce. After church Bruce and I would risk our lives by having Dave, the worst drive EVER, drive us to a disc golf course and we'd play a few rounds and he'd give us a ride home. A few times we played that Wilmette course. It was typical for 9 hole frisbee courses of the day but it was different than Adler and since neither Bruce nor I had driver's licenses it was the only time we could play different courses. That course got pulled about the same time that Adler was expanded to 18 holes. Wilmette was a very vandalized course and it actually just disappeared basket by basket...sometimes one chain length at a time! The last time we tried to play it we found 2 tee signs a 3 poles for baskets and a few parts still attached to those poles. It would have been comical if it had not been so sad. That PD just decided at some point that they were not going to replace the course and they just let it disappear. Anyway, since it disappeared around the same time that Adler went to 18 then I'm guessing the last time we played it was 1983 or so.

That's the only one I can think of that is completely gone that you don't have on your list. I'll keep thinking but that's all I can think of.

It was 18 holes to start. I recall playing in WXRT's Frisbee Day Frisbee Golf tournament in the late 70's with my Whammo Moonlighter there.  UFO was the band that played that day and Bobby Skafish and Terri Hemmert shook hands with everybody.  I don't recall much of the event but it was back in the 70's and I probably remember more than most from that day.  ;D The course was short by today's standards but had well sculpted and  designed holes that put the entire park into play. To me the signature holes were quite short, about 125 feet each. One  was straight down a big incline and the other was straight up.They came one after the other. When the course was built we were playing one disc with our Moonlighters. It was the only golf disc you could find..  Most players used regular Frisbees. It was a great course at the time but would be  obsolete by now.  In college we used to play on Sunday mornings with the loser buying pastries for the winner.  I met the local players from the Windy City Frisbee club and  they sold us their club discs- a 119g frisbee.  I think I still have one somewhere. Those guys were awesome.  Connolly held the world distance record for a long time.  The course that most reminds me of  Gillsen Park is Vollrath in Sheboygan.  In hindsight I wish Windy City would have taken a more active role in keeping vandalism at bay. However, the NIMBY attititude of the neighbors would have won out anyway and I am certain that course would not have survived regardless. What a shame.

Wilmette also had a 9 holer at the Highland School that existed as a 7 holer until about 10 years ago.  I had no idea where the tees were.  We would go out and make up holes to the remaining baskets.

31 Illinois courses plus these 2 and Miller Park..

I'm at 87 Illinois courses.  I haven't played either Highland Park course, Naperville, Downers Grove, or that newer little one in Crystal Lake or else I'd have all the Chicago ones as well.

It takes alot of time driving around playing horrible courses to get all of them.  I think Brett and I have gone on atleast 4 tours of the suburbs picking up 6 courses at a time.  Is it worth it?  Probably not   :D

I track mine using Google Earth.

Only 34 in Illinois for me, not counting temps.  I will NOT be joining the "every Chicagoland course club".

41 out of state to date.

I filled out the DGcourse review and I have 163 courses marked as played, I think Spike has like 500 which is the most I have heard of.

Gregg Hosfeld has close to 1,000 and probably more than that now that worlds is over. Ben Calhoun probably has a ton too, but I'm not sure of the official count. He's on a nationwide tour on a mission to break the thousand mark though.

My count that i gave above was total courses, my IL total is much lower and unless there is a tourney somewhere at a course I haven't played, it probably won't get a lot higher for a few more years.

addition: Gregg's blog is up at http://www.onegranddiscgolftour.com/ as he works towards being the first to hit 1,000 courses.

Mukey

I amended my personal "Hit these courses" list to only include 18 hole courses in our area, too many 9 holers

I just made a profile there. Is there an easy way to tick off courses played or do you just have to go to each course page and click the "played course" button for each?

I haven't been able to find anything like that (I just right click->open new window so that I don't have to keep reloading my list), but I think they might be open to hearing a suggestion of adding that feature to the course browser - or even 3 checkboxes - one to add it to played, one to add it to favs, and one to add it to wishlist.

Ben Calhoun still plays disc golf?  I haven't seen his name on a tournament result in forever.

All he's been doing is touring the U.S. and playing every course that he can. Check his page at disc golfers R us.
