I threw it off the alternate tee over the top in an attempt to throw a helicopter type shot. It went the whole way there, but then took a big left turn at the end.

Wind was strong enough today to push people if you weren't footed properly, regardless of value discs aren't designed to fly in wind like that. The sport would get very old, very quick if that was the norm.

thread drift, but weather related
i played the doubles in rockford in the wind/rain/hail/snow. there was about 25 teams that played, 5 people showed up without partners, only one person had to leave. during the second round the wind was blowing people out of their stances like it was nothing. i seen discs do things i thought i would never see. $200 was the pro cash out. pat " jetman" gourly and rod "the ripper" fritz won. their team name was "jet the ripper" lol.

thankfully we had no rain, no hail, no snow, but plenty of wind!  It was sunny most of the day and boy did I need that.

In response to your comment, Matt, woohoo for the tournament schedule page to be up, but unfortunately the area where I go to upload scores and stuff is not working.  I'll probably just submit the TD report this week and hope that the folks at the PDGA will put it up for us.  Unfortunately I wouldn't be surprised if the ratings don't go up until the ratings update at the end of november.

Also, I wanted to reaffirm that for the one call we needed to make was played correctly and the results were tallied correctly.

803.06 Unplayable Lie
A.  A player may declare his or her lie to be an unplayable lie.  The player is the sole judge as to whether the lie is unplayable.  The unplayable lie may be relocated to a new lie that is: (1) No closer to the hole, on the line of play and within five meters of the unplayable lie; or (2) The previous lie as evidenced by the marker disc or, if the marker disc has been moved, from an approximate lie as agreed to by the majority of the group or an official. The original throw plus one penalty throw are counted in the player's score.

Nate did declare it as unplayable, he backed straight up within limits to get to a spot where he could throw, and he also took a penalty stroke along with the original throw.  His score of 9 on that hole was correct.  This happened on hole 6 - I didn't check all of the cards, but there were ranges of scores from 3-15 on that hole for the 2nd round.  Crazy!

It will be interesting to see if they use the ratings from this event. If they don't see a nice curve then they look into the conditions a little more closely. If they find out it was played in a wind storm then they'll probably throw the ratings out.

I think it was one 15, one 9, and then everything else was 3-6, but it still turned out to be a brutal hole.  I played a round while setting out flags on Friday with no wind and shot a 59.  Sunday with similarly rated people in the same format (round 1 Novice) the best score was a 66.  Evil, evil wind!

What is it with the last weekend of October, Bevier, and wind?

My wife and I played the Widdershins back in 2004(?). That wind is sure something up there. With the new holes out in the open it had to be even better.  >:D

I can't remember any Widdershins that didn't involve at least some form of hurricane strength winds.

Supposed to be in the 60's on Thursday and Friday. Anyone want to go swimming to make some money?  :)

Taylor-

I bet if you can get ahold of Al Bingman (sp) he will do it.  Maybe there is someone here that sees him at leagues?
Vibram Disc Golf, Ledgestone Insurance, Paragon and Whirld Sports are all cool. Real cool.

Well, stopped by Bevier today and played a round and then took a dip afterwards. Boy was that cold the best swim I've had in months!

I've never learned to swim, so I'm not offering to go, but how deep do you think it is?  I have no idea how far offshore that disc wound up going.   Makes me want to blind fish with my golden disc retriever :-P

Tom might have a good idea, I'm not even sure now. I had guessed about 15 feet, but I didn't find it yesterday, so who knows. It gets deep pretty quick in there, and the bottom is squishy so it was more so swimming than wading around. There wasn't a lot of junk in there though, so the disc retriever could work without getting hung up.
