Alright, so everyone has had a year of IOS events with split tourney days that were fairly unique.  I know there were some people unhappy with the splits before the year begun, but I was wondering what the opinions were now that it's a year later.  Did you like it? hate it? not a problem with it?

I liked how the IOS broke it down - it seemed to be fairly balanced.  I'm considering doing similar, but opposite days.  It would look like this: SATURDAY: All Advanced, Recreational, Junior divisions; SUNDAY: All Open, Intermediate, Novice divisions.  The matching Masters and Womens divisions would play based on the same thing (eg. Advanced Masters/Rec Women Saturday; Open Women/Masters Sunday).  This would still allow anybody to play in SOME division on either day unless you're a pro with 970+ rating and can't play AM (I think I have that right).

Please share your thoughts :)  Maybe I'm forgetting a division?

I think the split days idea works well when there is not anything else going on in the area, otherwise you see the low numbers like a few times (correct me if I'm wrong there).

I like the idea of switching the days because there are definitely area players that can't play on Saturday or Sunday for the IOS (Tom Schodtler for example) so this would open up his preferred day for play in other local tourneys.

I can guarantee you that no matter how you split it, someone will complain!  ;)

The only thing I see with your plan is that the women are split amongst the days. Would the women prefer having the options to play both/either day in a women's division, or would they prefer seeing all of the women out together on one day?

Open Div. on Sunday is the way to go ;D

I believe The way the IOS did it last year is the best way to split days.  It makes sense to make it possible for anyone except pros to play both days.... Your attendence will be higher cause there would be more people playing both days...

i just happy to play, no matter what day.

I work on Sundays. Saturday tournaments would be easier to play in w/out having to get a day off.  That being said.  I enjoy playing with Women, but I get a different perspective when I play Novice.   I just like to play.  With my rating and age I have lots of choices of divisions to play in  ;D

Don't ever let somebody tell you... You can't do something. You got a dream... You gotta protect it. People can't do somethin' themselves, they wanna tell you you can't do it. If you want somethin', go get it. Period.

Sounds like a great idea scott!

It would be nice to have Open play on Sundays, since IOS has Open on Saturdays.

Only downside is, I work Sundays.

Vibram Disc Golf, Ledgestone Insurance, Paragon and Whirld Sports are all cool. Real cool.

i like rec (  850 -900 ) on sundays as it allowed the players i travel with to play due to their work schedule
and i usually get white sox tix for the sat night fireworks
but now my firm is having shifts on sunday
so i ll say im undecided and will have to decide whether to play up on  or not accordingly

We did MPO-MA2-MA4 Saturdays, All Other Sundays because, theoretically, it split the field well and it was easy to remember and communicate.  In practice, so many players played up to advanced that Open-2-4 did not split the field as well as we had hoped, but it was close enough.

Scott's idea will better split the field 50/50.  It is easy to communicate.  It has a good beat and you can dance to it.  It should go right to the top of the charts.

Who plays Saturday and who plays Sunday for us was just a matter of what we thought would work best for the tournament process.  After we gave it a try, I think we all agreed that Open pros on Saturday worked good for the tournament process.
