Woo-hoo, baby!!!

This was by far the best meeting I've had with Mike Trigg.  I will briefly sum up things here and will go into detail at the club meeting and on the next E-newsletter.

Times are tight with the WPD (14 people got the axe recently), but because of our consistency, professionalism, and help with the parks, Mike is taking us seriously and willing to start moving forward.

I presented him with a framed certificate, thanking WPD for keeping Bevier so well maintained. He loved it.

We scheduled events and reserved the entire park for 4 tourney dates. Mike needs to file these dates with Baseball and Soccer ass'ns. There may be a conflict on 1 or 2 dates, but it is still early and we can work things out in time. We WILL have use of the fieldhouse AND the picnic tables/grill on the east side of the building for ALL 4 DATES!

Mike and I (and other interested) club members will walk the course in early December to indicate exactly how we want the wooded holes groomed next year (how much wild growth to cut?). We will also be staking out where WE ARE GOING TO INSTALL 3 MORE BASKETS!!!  Yeppers!  He agreed to make space for and install 3 more baskets this Spring. He will also install teepads (wooden form, crushed limestone) for these baskets. The club will design the holes. The club will also provide the baskets (I've already contacted Disc Golf World and am writing an email to SunKing as well as the Callahan family about donating baskets) and will pay for 1/2 the limestone (unless we can get that donated as well).

This is part of a 5-year plan we outlined last night. The sports megaplax being contructed at the lakefront (completed in 3-5 years) will allow us to absorb the soccer field and maybe the baseball diamond at that point. The WPD is also making a BMX bike park acrross the street on the landfill area. That will only take up 50-60%of that land; we can put 6 more baskets there in 3-5 years.

So, by 2007, Bevier will be an 18-hole course. At the time of installing the last 6 baskets, Mike proposed we redesign the course as needed, update the legend, upgrade baskets perhaps, etc.

Also, an updated map, including the 3 new holes to be installed this Spring, will be permanently published on their website and wil appear in the Spring, Summer, and Fall issues of the WPD magazine each year, along with club info.

Woo-Hoo!!!!   How cool is this!?!

Much more was accomplished, but details will be laid out at the club meeting on December 8th.

Yeah we'll have a 12-hole course for a couple of years. The 3 new holes will not have nice teeposts like the others, but we can mark the hole # and distance with the familiar round cement markers.  I envision the holes being similar to temp tourney holes A,B, and C, with some modifications.

The WPD will take care of the mowing, etc., of the 3 new hole layouts.

Also, the bulletin board is a maybe unless we want to provide one or build one (must be nice & damage-resistant). Their $$ is all tied up in the megaplex and skate park and BMX park. However, we will benefit from these other things, as more space will open up at Bevier.

Chain Upgrades have been officially OK'd, but we do the work and provide the chains.

I've been planning new hole layouts in my head for 2 weeks now.  Brett and Jon walked the wooded areas of Bevier as well as under the power lines. We came up with some new ideas and modifications of the layouts I had in mind.  My original ideas are in the first attachment (3a); the newer versions are in the second one (3b).  Please give feedback; printouts will be available at the club meeting.

Which side is the clearing on?  On the "basket side" of Hole C, where we'd have to drive into the woods?  If so, that would be SO COOL!

Regarding the meeting, I dunno when the meeting with Trigg will be.  He said to call him next week, after Thanksgiving.  I will try to make it a late afternoon time and let everyone interested immediate notice so more members can attend (and I hope many do).

This proposed hole we are talking about will possibly be the sweetest hole on the course; combo of woods and open, plus a hairy dogleg, water hazard, oh yeah, and LOTS of trees.

I have no problem with that.  I prefer dirt/wood chips to crushed limestone myself, but I am unsure about others.  My feet sink too much in the limestone; can't get as much momentum. I cant wait to see the opening you're talking about.  Maybe I'll check it out on Friday.

the maps look good! i liked the 2nd one with alternate A behind #6 going into the woods.  we can utilize the woods at the west end & not congest the east end. that will also allow us to to add some extra distance to alternate B. alternate C will also be sweet. after you guys left I found a whole bunch of rocks, trees, & other useful materials that we can use to decorate these new holes. there was a bridge in the stream but it may be rather difficult to move. i can't wait to get these next 3 holes in the ground. is DGW going to donate a basket to us?

jim,

when are you going to walk through the new layout with trigg? it may be a good idea like you said to clear some of the dead brush & mark out the new holes. after you left i was looking at alternate C that would run into the woods. up closer to the soccer field there is a natural clearing that runs deep into the woods. this would add another 50 ft & take a little less work of clearing out the woods.

Jim,

The clearing is on the west side of the path. It would be on the same side that we looked at. The opening is a little farther north & it would not take as much time & effort clearing out. It would also add some extra distance. I was also thinking about tee pads. If these are only going to be temporay for a few years, why not just use wood chips on the ground or leave them dirt/grass. Why spend the $. We could also put 3 tee offs at each basket making it a 36 hole course.

The walk through went surprisingly well today. The park district said they would clear anything that we needed except good mature trees. Hopefully the power company will approve the use of the land but if not, I think we can still add 3 holes pretty easily. Instead of A being under the power lines, we could move it into the woods. B would have to be moved but there is still quite a bit of land on the east side by C. C would be fine since it is entirely on park district land.

Also, when they joked about clearing that island, how sweet would that be to put a hole out there. That would be one great spot for a hole. That would add a great hole between # 7 & #8. It would add a signature hole that no one would forget.

Limestone hurts my knee on the follow threw.  I just cant get my foot to swivel in the stuff.  Prefer dirt or chips....and long holes with water and lots of trees.
Let us hope that the whores of evil no longer loiter on the doorsteps of your path beckoning you into the brothel of despair, and that here and after may present them with the most rigid manistfestation of a firm and manly will.

Excellent work Jim!!  I can't believe how much you got the park to do.  And Three more placements!!!  That's the best part!!
