The Discraft One Disc Ace Race is coming to Aurora, IL!  You get two discs, a hat, and a mini for $25.  We shorten the holes to about 125-200 feet.  You take your new discs, grip, rip, ACE!  At least, that's the plan.

On September 19th, 2009 @ Jericho Lake I will be hosting a Discraft One Disc Ace Race.  You can participate for $25, and you get 2 discs, a hat, and a mini - a $50 value!

The "official" start time is 11AM, but we'll probably start letting people tee off at 10am and continue on probably until 5pm.  This way you can come and play as you want and have FUN.  That's the bottom line here.  It's not as wound up as a singles tournament can be - trash talking and cheering for others will be allowed and certainly encouraged!

The format will be 2 rounds from the shortened tees, and you can throw both of your discs.  If you throw one into the water, you might be able to buy a replacement, but you'll more than likely be stuck throwing just 1 disc for the remainder of the competition.  I want to say that we had 50 or so participants last year with maybe at least 20 Ace's?  Maybe more?  It was a great time!

Come on out and have some fun!

Pre-registration is online!

Sign Up here: http://www.paperorplasticsports.com/2009/2009acerace-registration.html

By Pre-Registering, you are guaranteed a player pack.  I should have some extras available at the tournament, but I can't guarantee it.  It would greatly help if you pre-register by the end of the month.  That way I have an idea of how many player packs to order!  There is no online service charge fee - it's $25 online, by mail, anything you want.

I will be at the Oswego Handicap Leagues tomorrow night if you want to pre-reg there.

I will allow groups to tee off from about 10AM until 3PM.  The winner will be announced at 5pm.  I will get the information from the current leader as the cards come in should there be any sort of playoff needed around 5pm.  Hopefully no playoff will be necessary.  Winner does not need to be present at the end of the day, but it would certainly be nice :)

You have the option to sign up for player pack AND playing, or if you just want to get the player pack and don't intend to play.  If you choose that 2nd option, I will make arrangements to get a player pack to you.

I would love to make it out to my first Ace Race, just won't know if I will be able to get out to Aurora until a few days before the event. I wish there were some closer.

All of the tees are relocated for an Ace Race event, so you don't really need to practice the course with a disc you don't yet have in your hand.

Current registration is at 5 players for the ace race.  I know that number will increase significantly :)  The more people that sign up by September 1st, however, the more willing I am to increase my order.  I don't want to be left with significant leftovers, but I'd also love to be one of the guys that wins a new chainstar basket to share with everyone as a temp basket at tournaments!  I plan on ordering probably on the 1st or 2nd.

According to Mike Henry of Team Discraft, the disc is very similar to a Wizard.  Should be a great disc!

Ace Race Player Packs are ordered.  Current registration is at 7.  I'm putting in a healthy "bid" on the player packs going for a basket, we'll see what happens!  Thanks for coming out and having a great day of fun at Jericho Lake!

Man I love the Wizard for anything inside of 200ft. My man putter. How do these tournaments usually work regarding the weight of discs. Does everyone get a preference as to what weight they want so that it's a weight there used to throwing and not completely random?

stpitner

I have huge stacks of discs that will be of a mixed weight range, and the sooner you get there, the sooner you can browse through all of them and pick out the two that you want.  The same goes for the color of the hat.

Scott says there is right in the qoute above early in this forum. Did you read everything?

stpitner

you are more than welcome to sign up at the event, there's plenty of space, but pre-registration is a definite way to reserve your spot allowing you to arrive at anytime you'd like to play between 10 and 3.  The better selection will of course be available in the morning.

The discs have arrived.  Wow, talk about exact same as a Wizard or KC Pro Aviar.  I really like the grip on the ESP - it almost feels like in between ESP and FLX.  The Pro-D feels just like Pro-D plastic.

The colors of available stuff:
ESP - Turquoise, Pink, Red-Orange
Pro-D - Light Blue, Dark Pink, White, Yellow, Light Purple

Hats - Black, Navy, White, Yellow, Khaki, and Burnt Orange.

The super color minis look pretty sweet.  Bonus: you also get a Discraft Sticker!  They didn't send me enough last year, but they did this year!

The winner receives: 5 ESP (1 of those is FLX), 2 Elite-X, 3 Pro-D discs, a Discraft towel (black), a Discraft Bag, and a super color Ace Race Winner Super Color mini.  Good stuff!

Is the course closed to the public for this event?  If so, all day, or from when to when?  Thanks.

Steven Jacobs

How long will an actual round take for the ace race.  Do we just count 1 round?  Can I come and play and then leave?

Hmmm, guess I should have posted this on the Fox Valley Metro site since you were posting updates there this morning.

stpitner

sorry Kurt - didn't see your post - I had to work a 12-hour day Friday and then it took a couple of hours to get loaded up.  I only took the time to add the list of pre-reg's at fox valley's site since that's the local venue site.  For the record, the course was not closed since people were starting at random times - plus since it was a relaxed environment, no need to close.

Thanks all for coming out!  I'm almost sold out of player packs :)  There were 85 total player packs sold, but I think there were about 80-82 participants (2 no shows, a couple people bought an extra set)  This was easily one of the best turnouts in the nation!  Awesome job!  The winner, Vince, took home the grand prize with his afternoon of 4 aces and 4 metal hits breaking the tie to the runner up with 4 aces and 2 metal hits.

I think it was a fun day shared by all, and I look forward to running another ace race in Aurora again next year!

Aviator, Wyzard, something like that ;)

But actually, these are already PDGA-approved (woohoo!) and the official name is the Focus.  Someone at the ace race then predicted their next disc would be the Fusion... or maybe the Mustang or Taurus (groan I know)
