I was hoping to wake up this afternoon in Hamilton. I realized when I was at home I was still in bed. It was the right decision. I still feel bad.

I played with Mike when he took a 2 on hole #1. He had to make a putt outside of the circle to get that 2. He immediately gave that stroke back on #2 with a 4.

Above were the scores from Day 1.

Dan mentioned the pro men were irritated with the payouts. $1000 was added to the 3 player division of women. 1st in Pro Women is winning more than the 1st of Open Men.

There was 1 card of pro men that play an incorrect long tee. I believe he said it was Jenkins, Doss, Reading, & Olsen.

The TD has put in a massive effort to really do his best to make this a great event.  There has been food at the course which is convenient and appreciated.  Its clear he doesn't have alot of experience with PDGA events but genuinely listens to the criticisms and wants to make the tourney better.  I'd rate this as a great event and I think if they run it again they'll work out the few glitches and make it even better.  I'd agree it might be a good idea to toss a higher percentage of that added cash toward the Open Men who are battling in an extremely competitive field whereas the women have a 3 player field but are competing for more cash.  The payout is  648 for 1st in Open   691 for 1st in the 3 player Open Women.

Weather has been great.  Keokuk is a fun course in a city park with alot of easy birdie holes with a couple tough par 4's and several good par 3's that demand great shots.  43 was the hot round this morning, but I expect to see a 42 or 41 tomorrow (unless it gets super windy).  This course cuold me made alot tougher if they threw in some more OB.  They did a pretty good job this year spray painting the OB lines at Hamilton.  The course played tough today with some tight OB lines on a couple holes.  Nikko's 43 was impressive.  Unfortunately there was the error with Doss/Jenkins/Reading/Olsen's card where they mistakenly played a wrong tee.  They were the only group on the course, which was pretty much ful,l to make this mistake.  It cost them all 2 strokes.  The TD apologized to them afterwards and took the blame although there was nothing he could do at that point.

I've had fun being on the same courses as these guys and being able to see them throw quite a bit.  They are unreal!  Looking forward to 2 more rounds tomorrow.  Should be an interesting day.

I wish I could have played rand 4 times! I shot -5 and -6 for the two times we played it. I had it's number for sure.  About the mis-play on the tee.  Jenkins, Reading, and I forget the third guy, played the "pro" tee even though nothing was mentioned about it at the player meeting.  Nate Doss then played the concrete and stroked the other guys.  Kind of funny the next day when avery was on top card, he kept giving Doss crap about how he was going to stroke him at Rand all day.  That should be an interesting drive home haha.

So they would only be assessed a 1 stroke penalty for a practice throw??

It was well advertised that there was 1000 going to open, 1000 to womens and 500 to masters so they really have no right to complain.  Although I knew seeing all those top names there that there would be some bitching.
Vibram Disc Golf, Ledgestone Insurance, Paragon and Whirld Sports are all cool. Real cool.

Since Doss figured it out before he threw, they'll each only get one for a practice throw. If they threw a second, then it would be a "finish the hole +2".

I think that's what happened, because they all took 4s and they had all birdied it from the long.  Doss only got a 3 from the short. and it's pretty short compared to the long. Karma?

Thats not the first time I've heard of Doss going out of his way to stroke someone (if indeed he did let them play from the wrong tee)

I once let opponents play from the wrong tee and then stroked them.

It was a doubles tournament at Robert Morris, before it had concrete long tees.  After the morning round from shorts Diana and I were in second of the four Am Master teams.  She was playing really well and contributing immensely.  The group in first was way ahead, four or five throws.  In the afternoon round we were paired with the group in first for the first time that day.  For some reason these guys were totally dissing her all round, not talking to her, not responding when she talked to them, talking to me as if she wasn't there.  We played several holes in a row that only had one tee.  Then we got to a hole with two tees and they had honors.  Diana says, "Guys, we're playing long tees."  They ignore her and one of them steps up to throw.  Diana says, "Guys, we're playing long tees."  They ignore her again except one of them gives her a dirty look as if to say, shut up while we're throwing.  Diana says, "Guys, we're playing long tees," a third time, and I say, "Shhh, they're throwing."

That's the funny part of the story.   ;D  The rest of the round was a little icy.   >:D

This is how it went.  Earlier in the week Yeti helped build a new tee pad and helped clear the left side of the fairway and was told that was the tee we were playing.  We went along with it as nothing was said in the players meeting.  When we got to the hole no other groups were around and since Jay helped with the tee and hole we thought it was ideal that thats the tee we played.  All 4 of us teed from the wrong pad.  Jay, Avery, and myself got 2's.  Nate took a 3.  So at the end of the round we had to add 2 strokes to our score.  I thought everyone handled it well but it did make me feel like shit.  I think it was a learing experience for us all.  The td also felt bad.   None of us had ever done this before.  Ultimately it is up to the disc golfers to know the course and you have to take responsibility for your mistakes.

Dan Michler

Thanks for clarifying Adam, I was pretty sure the story about Doss was not true.  Its commendable that you handled it professionally instead of letting out your frustration on the TD as many would have.  2 strokes is obviously a large penalty.

On a sidenote, I practiced the day before from the long tee which I was told we would be playing and its a great hole.  A large improvement from the short tee which is almost an automatic deuce for the Pros.  Look forward to playing it next year.

I had a blast last weekend playing on the same course as the Pros.  Watching their shots on Hole 1 both rounds was especially entertaining.  The final round had a pretty strong wind and Bennett threw this ridiculous forehand shot over the top of everything and I was told he ended up carding a 2.  You had to be there to appreciate that shot.  Avery went for the over the top anhyzer over the OB, but it stalled and amazingly the wind carried it all the way back in bounds.  It was in the air for seemingly 10 seconds for a 250 foot shot.  After Jay Reading threw a safe layup shot with a midrange, Avery said... 'a different version of the same thing'.  Fun times!

Chad Nelson threw an amazing huge left hand hyzer bomb around the big tree on hole one.  It landed on the edge of the circle.  He made the putt for a duce.  It was sick.
